Hey everybody,

That's right everybody, you read the title correctly. George Lucas has just released a statement through the "Associated Press" that he is now on the task of releasing a 30th Anniversary DVD set of the original trilogy. I'm not sure if he will be doing a huge edition of all 6 films as there are no details yet but it will be released sometime this year. What the hell else could he possibly have to give us? We'll have to wait and see.

With this new DVD pack coming and the new animated series next year plus the live action show in 2009, the next few years sound pretty damn secure to keep the spirit of Star Wars going.

What do you all think?

God, can always count on George Lucas to be a money grubbing son of a bitch. Oh well, I saw this coming a mile away, and since I already have the movies, im not wasting money on buying them a second time, and if this new set DOESNT have all 6, yall better beware because there will most likely be a set with all 6, BECAUSE GEORGE LUCAS NEEDS MORE MONEY. Hooray money.

I wonder which previously likeable characters Lucas will turn into digital creations this time around.

I think it's funny to see people reacting negatively to the 30th Anniversary set. Everyone knew it was coming. Why the shock and pissed off attitudes, I'll never understand.

Me too. Maybe someday, I'll buy it, but I don't think George will ever be finished whoring out the only thing in his life he did right other than work with Steven Spielberg.

The ONLY way I'm getting this shit is if Lucas releases the 6 movie - 13 disc set - 2 for each movie including the ORIGINAL versions of the OT that were released last year - and the special features disc from the first OT box set....until this gets released, I'm not putting one more cent into Lucas' bullshit.

I've already got the six movies so I'm not going to get any more DVD releases of them; the extras already kick ass on all of them.

And nobody, absolutely nobody, not even Lucas, could make me hate Star Wars.

I got the original trilogy for Christmas 3 years ago.

I ripped the original trilogy without all the bullshit tinkering and put them with the DVD box.

I wouldn't touch the prequels with a 50 foot pole.

I'm golden.

I've stayed away from purchasing SW dvds as I too am waiting for this.

I think G.L.'s motivation for all this is he wants to be a billionare, if he isn't one all ready. He's jealous of Bill Gates and Oprah obviously. ;)

Thanks to the internet, I already have ANAMORPHIC copies of the ORIGINAL trilogy burned off and thrown in with my original trilogy box set. I haven't purchased the prequels and probably won't buy anything aside from the third one unless I get the urge to complete the series (which would obviously have to overwhelm the disdain I have for giving more of my money to George Lucas).

I wonder if this will include any of the deleted scenes? Or, more interestingly, there were rumours a few years back that Lucas was still inserting new footage into the original trilogy..... replacing all the SFX shots with newer CGI ones, jazzing up the lightsaber duel from ANH with new stuntmen/CGI figures, etc.

Should be interesting either way.

I doubt it. Effects wise, the SEs are about as good as it gets right now. He touched up the Death Star trench scene already so I don't see him playing with that, or anything else for that matter. As far as jazzing up the duel from ANH, I, once again, doubt it. Lucas has already explained the slow nature of the duel by saying that it was "an old guy and an android."

As much of a bad rep Lucas tends to get by internet folk, he really isn't that crazy. You're not going to see Jar Jar Binks just show his face during the ANH lightsaber duel or anything. Most of the additions have been in making the landscapes more widespread and lively, a couple of cool creatures and some improvements in the original Death Star trench scenes (as well as getting rid of matte boxes/lines).
