Don't think there's a thread on this...it's not out until 2009, but I thought we could talk about it anyway...

Lee Unkrich, who co-directed Toy Story 2, will be the single director for it. I'm so glad that Pixar are making it now, instead of Disney by themselves...with the stuff they make now (direct-to-video sequels), they surely would've bollocksed it up...

I think Tim Allen and Tom Hanks are confirmed to be returning...the other guys probably will too...I hope they cut the character of Slinky out completely though, rather than have a new voice actor try to replace Jim Varney.

And the best bit...Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) is writing the script!!! Does anyone else think that that's extremely, amazingly f***ing cool?

Well, all bias aside (I didn't find LMS to be ZOMFG AMAZING! like many did, just "okay") I'm not so sure Arndt's brand of comedy is anywhere near suited for a Toy Story flick. It'll be interesting what comes of that...

On another note, is Disney gonna break their newly founded straight to DVD rule about sequels for this? I honestly can't imagine them not releasing this in theaters as, not only is it bound to make oodles and oodles of cash, but it's one of their most beloved franchises and the outcry of Disney releasing it into obscurity would be truly prolific.

All in all, I'm glad they decided to make another, and 2009 can't come fast enough (the release date in itself, combined with the time passed since #2, tells you they're making another because they genuinely want to, not because they want to make a quick buck, which is GREAT news to this fan).

I'm also encourage about the news. But this one has a lot to live up to; the first two were really funny and really well done. Of course, if Tim Allen and Tom Hanks don't return, it'll take a big hit. I don't see how they wouldn't return, it doesn't take that much work and they'll probably get a shiiteload of dough to do it.

And it's not like Tim Allen has anything better else to do.

Zing!

I'd have to agree with you, that it's a completely different type of comedy, to Little Miss Sunshine, being more "obvious", and having to be funny for both kids and adults...

As for Pixar wanting to make a third one...I'm really not sure. Disney were originally making the film, without Pixar, for a 2007-2008 release, I think. Disney owns the rights to any sequels made of Toy Story, and so I reckon they'd make it by themselves anyway, even now, with the two companies being "joined" again. I think Pixar may have just accepted an offer from Disney, to intervene in the production, because they knew it'd be shite without them...
(If that doesn't make sense...sorry...I couldn't word it very well...heh)

Tim Allen and Tom Hanks are confirmed to be returning, by the way...apparently Tim Allen wanted to do a third one, even if Pixar wasn't involved.

I reckon with Pixar, John Lasseter, etc., Disney as a whole is going to make a huge come-back over the next few years.

Disney now owns Pixar; bought 'em last year (or thereabouts). So anything Pixar does, Disney owns. I don't know if that's what you meant by "joined," but it's not a partnership anymore (like it was for the first two Toy Story's) - it's an ownership thing now.

At least Disney realizes that their idea without Pixar was crap and let the geniuses behind the first two take over, or most of the geniuses anyway.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "joined"...sorry.

Does Steve Jobs own Pixar, and now have the majority share of Disney itself?
