Lionsgate to Release 'Monster Squad' 20th Anniversary! (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/8201)
Posted: February 12, 2007 @ 7:04pm | Source:

One of our new favorite horror mags, HorrorHound Magazine (http://www.horrorhound.com/news/newsview.aspx?g=11&f=11&t=65&p=138), just scored some amazing info this afternoon - Lionsgate Home Entertainment is working on a special DVD release for Monster Squad, which is slated for release sometime this year. The DVD will not be bare bones as the plan is to pack the 20th anniversary release with extra features. More news as it comes in and don't forget to pick up the next HorrorHound, which features a special retrospect on the film. Dracula is alive. In fact, he plans to rule the world and that is why he seeks the help of other legendary monsters. However, a bunch of kids regarded by their peers as losers uncover the devious plan and prepare for a counter strike. "Wolf Man has nards!"

its about fucking time:D

It is about damn time! I love this movie, awesome stuff. I see it on the tube every once in awhile. Nice stuff and a blast to watch. The "Wolfman Has Nards" scene is still hilarious today.

I spoke with Fred Dekker (director) and Andre Gower (Sean) of Monster Squad at Monster Mania 7 and was informed of the dvd release announcement one day prior. Andre told me that the cast and director have been doing several conventions all over and that audience response has been overwhelmingly positive so a dvd has officially been announced. My first reaction was "Anchor Bay?" but he told me that Lions Gate would be distributing it which is still great because they are another fine horror related company who will deliver fans the goods. He also told me that various cast and crew members are involved (for commentaries, makings of and such) and that the TENTATIVE release date would be in October as Halloween would be the ideal holiday for consumers. Great guy to talk to he was. Well thats all for now GooD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I just recently watched this movie and I can't wait to get the DVD. I feel ashamed for going this long without watching it. It's certainly the most fun I've ever had watching a movie, as cliche' as that sounds.

Some news has finally hit about the arrival of the Monster Squad dvd. Here is the info I found from Bloodydisgusting:

Fred Dekker's film is finally coming to DVD on July 24th, according to Fangoria. They report that in addition to a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, expect the following extras:

- Audio commentary by writer/director Dekker and cinematographer Bradford May
- Audio commentary by Dekker and actors Andre Gower, Ashley Bank and Ryan Lambert
- Wolf Man’s Got Nards! The Making of THE MONSTER SQUAD documentary
- Deleted and extended scenes
- Monster Mania reunion featurette
- Vintage interview with Tom Noonan
- Poster and still gallery
- Theatrical trailer
- TV spot

Lions Gate is definitely giving us the goods and I am appreciative. Take a hint Sub-Paramount!

Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I'll be picking this up just because the making of documentary is named "Wolf Man’s Got Nards!"

I hope it's aged as well as The Goonies. I haven't seen it since I was a kid.

Hopefully this means Lions Gate will get the rights to Night of the Creeps from HBO Video since they handled it in the 80s.

Here is a quote I found of Fred Dekker in a recent interview where he talks about wanting to make a Monster Squad sequel:

"At Monster Mania, I was sitting around with the Squad and we started talking about 'where are these characters today?'" he told us. "I got really excited about it the more we talked about it; imagine Rudy as an auto mechanic in Detroit with a crumbling marriage and an alcohol problem, and he gets a phone call from his old pal Sean who tells him they gotta get back together. That’s a movie I would go see!"

I got to meet the man at that Monster Mania and he was very cool. Unfortunately since I don't remember much of Monster Squad we talked mostly of Night of the Creeps. Still, I hope everything works out for him but I wouldn't count on it. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

good to see, just makes me kinda a sad, i mean for us horror fans the 80s were the shit we wont have a decade like that for our genre ever again. i mean all my top 10 horror movies come from the freakin 80s:(

The thing about the 80s is that at the time they didn't realize how cheesy they were being. It wasn't until years went by that they realized how cheesy they were. These days movie makers are too aware to give us that level of "so bad it's good" unintentionally. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.
