Born on July 21st 1971 to Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin Charlotte Gainsbourg has been acting and singing from the age of 13.
Early in her career she appeared on a notorious song on one of her father's albums; it was titled Lemon Incest and the video featured Father and Daughter (aged 12 or 13) lounging around in bed together.
Since then she's mainly concentraated on acting, working steadily, mainly in French cinema (French is her first language, her cut glass English accent a result of elocution lessons.) After much toil in French films (which introduced her to Yvan Attal, her Husband and Father of her son and daughter) and cult english language releases she's finally begun to branch into the mainstream. The was a strong supporting role as Sean Penn's wife in 21 Grams, arthouse hit Lemming and, most recently, a lead in Michel Gondry's Science of Sleep. She's also recently released her second album, 5:55.
I LOVE Charlotte Gainsbourg. She's an unconventional beauty by Hollywood standards but devastatingly cute. More than that though she's a brilliant actress, witness her wonderfully mature turn in The Cement Garden and the delicate balance of comedy and drama she pulls off in Love Etc and Ma Femme Est Une Actrice. Equally comfortable in French and English she's one of those many actresses I wish got more popular attention, she's certainly worthy.
Yay, by the way.
