here are two movies that i think were improperly rated in terms of their descriptions:

Candyman; R (for violence and gore)

I thought the violence in this movie was very bloody and should therefore contain the description of "bloody violence" at least; since one scene of violence was edited to achieve an R rating. Theres also nudity which is not mentioned in the rating. I would rate this movie: R (for bloody violence and gore, and for nudity)

Hills Have Eyes, The (2006); R (for strong gruesome violence and terror throughout, and for language)

There is no mention of a rape here, which was in fact edited to receive an R rating. My rating: R (for strong gruesome violence and terror throughout including a scene of rape, and for language)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation; R (for demented mayhem and torture, and for strong language)

There is no mention of nudity here, which is only shown for a few seconds but there is too much side nudity to receive a PG-13 rating. My rating: R (for demented mayhem and torture, brief nudity and strong language)

Does anyone else know any others?

What nudity? Where and when?

Hmm, maybe it's just me, but we are getting way too descriptive wqith this crap. An "R" rating is an "R" rating, and that is that. You know what is in "R" rated movies, don't want to see it, don't watch it. I often laugh at this stuff as I see no point for this. That's like saying Rated "XXX" for exposed/shaved scrotums, exposing of the buttocks cleft, sexual penetration and oral copulation followed by oral bodily fluid exchanges, possible group sex and same sex engagement in questionable acts. Makes no sense as you know what is there. Don't like it, don't watch it.;)

Hmm.

As long as it is rated R, does it really matter why it's rated R? It's still got the "no-people-under-whatever-age-can't-see-R-rated-movies" stamp on it (I don't remember what age it is...or really care, as I'm well of age myself, and don't really have any plans to show any R rated movies to underage people). Some DVDs don't even say why they're rated what they're rated. I don't know, It's never bothered me before...

And yes there is brief nudity in TCM: The Next Generation...very very brief one-second nudity; so brief it's not even worth mentioning, in my opinion. I don't remember any kind of "side nudity" (not even really sure what you mean).

Ok I never said I was offended by these R-rated films, I'm just saying it's odd that certain elements of R-rated movies are not mentioned in the rating. For instance, I was not expecting a rape scene in The Hills Have Eyes remake because I head read the rating and whenever I see a movie with a rape scene, it's always mentioned in the rating (that is if it's rated R).

What is the point your getting at? Horror is meant to be scary one way or the other through murder, super-natural events, monsters, blood, torture, sex/rape, ect, ect, ect, I could go on for a while, all in all it is meant to scare you in some way. As far as ratings go you sometimes have to look further in the rating reason or just read a review(LIKE AT JOBLO.COM). Most importantly most horror films insert T&A because, it can keep your audience interested and spread the word for all those teens to see nudity. Sometimes it's also the premise for th movie and that's just how it is. Here's something to think about, the rape in The Hills Have Eyes made you feel what uneasy, disgusted, angry, horny, or other. That was the point, feeling powerless to help even if you were there, that's the power of film. A rating is a rating G, PG, PG-13, R NC-17 it makes little difference, people go what they want to see and sometimes what they don't want to see.
