Most overrated? I've always thought the B-52's are extremely overrated.

Ouch. Damn, I love U2. Haven't heard a bad album by them yet. Well, maybe Pop. But otherwise they've only released classic stuff imo.
My pick would be Led Zeppelin. Other than their hits, I don't like their music.

Anyway, I would have to say either Zeppelin (though they are good, they are not THE GREATS EVAH), Van Halen, or Poison.

I like both and own albums of theirs but I've got to say Nirvana and Zeppelin although Zeppelin is mostly overrated because of IV alone. I swear if I have to hear Four Sticks,Black Dog, and Rock And Roll against my will one more time...

^^exactly... (to frankyfour)
I see people on here listing artists like Nirvana, Zeppelin, and Floyd... And sure, I guess I can get why people don’t like these guys. But what determines an artist or a group, "overrated"? I ask this because I feel that people abuse this word habitually just because they don’t “like” or “care” about a specific group, or they don’t “get” why said group got so illustrious, or whatever.
When I think of overrated bands, I think of people who exploit their fanbase. Usually for monetary reasons. Artists like Brittany Spears, or Backstreet Boys... and most rap artists.
So please, for the love of xenu someone explain to me why my most influential bands are “overrated”... Cause I don’t get it...

Because they are lauded by many peeps, and single peeps (like me) disagree, it's not rocket science.
It seems every fucker and their mother loves Pink Floyd, I think they are rubbish, thus they are 'overrated' IMO.
End of.

But they're lauded for a reason... you know what I mean jellybean?
The ball rolls like this: People enjoy Pink Floyd for the same reasons you would enjoy Pulp, rr whatever... It just so happens that more people enjoy the Floyd. That’s really the only difference, here. So, you not liking their music doesn’t mean they are overrated. It just means that you don’t like their music. And a lot of people liking Pink Floyd doesn't mean they're overrated either. It just means that a lot of people like their music.
I hope I'm making sense.

I dont really love listening to pink floyd either. I think they have become very popular today along with the doors and the dead because of the "drug" relativity. But I'm willing to bet that most of these fuckin kids who were there shirts couldnt name 5 songs from each band. To say pink floyd is overrated I feel is a bit much. The sound they have is one of a kind and they were doing this back in the freakin 70's! Its unbelieveable how talanted that band is, but I cant really get into them as much as some do (or pretend to).

Yes you're making sense but it's like you're intent on sapping the fun out of this thread by way of being diplomatic. Everybody seems to have problems with terms nowadays...pretentious, overrated, etc. We all have to agree to disagree and shake hands and shit...instead of having a strong - sometimes 'controversial' - opinion and enjoying a healthy debate about it.
Oh well I DISLIKE the artists I listed then. I dislike them quite a lot actually, but understand why they receive such acclaim and numerous awards because other people obviously like them very much. How very opinionated of me, phew.
Oh and people don't enjoy Pink Floyd for the same reason others enjoy Pulp. It's not that cut and dry. You don't just like/dislike bands because you do and that's the end of it. You like them because they make you feel a certain way, or represent a certain thing, and yeah...sometimes they simply rock. I don't like Scott Walker for the same reason(s) I like Kenny Rogers...that would be quite absurd IMO.

"You don't just like/dislike bands because you do and that's the end of it. You like them because they make you feel a certain way, or represent a certain thing, and yeah...sometimes they simply rock."
What other reasons are there to like a band?
Name any band on this earth and someone will list the reasons why...
Being famous gives more room for people to romp on artists like this (which, I guess, is the sole reason why anyone would call them overrated), I tend to be very choosy on the people I do. To be more specific, artists who are serious about their work as well as those who are knowledgeable are usually the last people I’d call out. On the other hand, people who gain fame through trends and exploitation are the people on top of my list. Like Brittany Spears. Fuck that bitch. She doesn’t deserve anything she has. Talentless fuck...
I know I'm being anal about it (but only on topics like these)... and you’re absolutely on point about the whole ‘agree to disagree’ argument. No one person is correct here, I’m just trying to defend my babies.
I like specifics, what can i say?
It's also just confusing to me when a person makes this type of statement without having any sort of ‘analytical backbone’ apart from the "it’s just my opinion" speech...
Whatever, I’ll just shut my face now. I don't like being a party-pooper. ;)

First off, when you insult a band loved by millions it helps if you use proper English. Secondly, NIN is one of the best and most influential bands to come out in a long time.
If you dont like a thread about NIN, just hush your mouth and stay out of it. Do not go out of your way to insult the thread starter.

First up...Mentiroso.
Roy L Dennis was just giving his opinion. Your post includes personal insults. I would suggest you go refresh your memory where the rules are concerned. Making potentially hurtful comments just because someone doesn't think your favorite band in the whole wide world RULES is childish and disrespectful.

First off, I'm with you on The Rolling Stones, while I love a lot of their shit, the good songs (a.k.a. the ones we hear 24/7) are far outweighed by the meh ones, and they can easily be considered boring.
But The Beatles earned their Sacred Cow status imo, everything is subjective, but with The Beatles' vast array of achievements and styles, I will put it out there right now that if having listened to the whole catalogue, everyone would like at least ONE Beatles song, I just happen to love every one of them, so maybe I'm talking out of my ass.
Carry on, if you will.
Also, if anything, The Beach Boys are underrated.

I'm absolutely 100% with you on that. When I first saw it I wasn't surprised to see that In the Aeroplane Over the Sea wasn't on there....since it wasn't really recognized as a masterpiece until after the list came out. But Teaser and the Firecat? No critic should leave that off of their list, especially out of 500 possible albums to vote for. Also forgetting to put Leonard Cohen, perhaps the greatest lyricist of all time, on that list is pretty silly.

Bohemian Rhapsody is probably the most overrated song ever written...quite a number of their songs are pure effing tripe mind, A Kind Of Magic and We Will Rock You spring instantly to mind. Plus Brian May might have a glorious barnet, but he and Roger Taylor are 2 of the most irritating bozo's going.
However, I do like Fat Bottomed Girls, Killer Queen, and Somebody To Love.
Verdict: Overrated indeedy!

While they may be overrated, Queen were responsible for Bohemian Rhapsody, which rules insanely, as well as partly responsible for Under Pressure, which is amazing as hell.
Joy Divison weren't BAD, per say, but they were kind of a one-trick pony. Not sure if I'd consider them overrated, though. In some circles yes, but probably not in the grand scheme of things. I do probably prefer New Order, though.
Oh, and U2 can't be overrated, because they rule.
BOB DYLAN, ANYONE?!? :D
Really, though. Innovative? Yeah. Influential? Hell yeah. A joy to listen to? Every now and then, but surely not enough to warrant all of the praise that he gets.
I will give him credit for writing one of Hendrix's best songs, though. Even though Hendrix was the one who REALLY made it shine. ;)

Nirvana. Their music was absolutely awful and spawned a ton of other trash bands.

Avenged Sevenfold is certainly the single worst band to ever exist.
i really dnt know why people hate them that much, christ the are the best instrumental band around at the moment, infact in a long time. christ people compare syn gates and dimebag darrel (R.I.P) but im sorry but syn is way more of a guitarist than dimebag was........

Though I dislike Avenged Sevenfold, it's true. You're statement was valid, and people need to stop ripping on eachother, as has been happening recently in this forum.
