A couple of years ago I started a thread singing the praises of Malcolm Middleton's second solo album Into The Woods. Now i'm hear to perform a similar function where his third solo album A Brighter Beat is concerned. This is just brilliant fucking stuff. Songs so chock full of heart in the throat moments that I once again find myself wishing for a world where songs like this could find a larger audience. The audience they deserve. Even during his years as guitarist with Arab Strap it was obvious that when it came to song arrangements he was something of a genius. This fact is all the more glaring on his solo albums. These songs contain a million fucking hooks. It's just a fantastic fucking album that deserves to be heard at least once by every discerning music fan on the face of this sorry fucking planet. Seriously great stuff.

Same here, but replace like with loved and that's how I feel about Into the Woods. Good stuff.

I never really loved into the woods, but I did like it alot. Something held it back from reaching the center of my music loving heart. i never could really put my finger on it. I think it left me wanting in the lyrics department on a few songs.

My friend said she saw a strange man wailing a bit in Fopp on Wednesday, so I went in today and bought this and the gent behind the counter said "ooh did you come and see him here on Wednesday, he was ever so good...", oh well.

I also bought Songs For The Young At Heart yeehaw.

His funny voice touched my heart...it was a toss-up between Jock telling us we're going to die or Mika who makes me want to die.

If you had bought Mika would have been very ashamed of you, the bands that someguy recommended are really quite good.

Well according to Q magazine Au Revoir Simone is worthy of 3 stars, whereas that loveable curly-haired cunto Mika gets a perfect 5 out of 5...do The Beano do music recommendations? I might try them in future.
