Is Maniac Cop worth buying?

Do you ask as a fan of the movie itself? Meaning - are you interested in the features and such besides the movie?

Or are you asking as a blind buy? Either way i'd say no,unless your a fan of the movie beforehand...its not for everybodies tastes and theres nothing to it with the features (atleast the dvd I rented off of netflix, and i DO think they came out with another version recently?)

Well the DVD I plan on getting came out in November '06. I remember seeing it a LONG time ago. I like Bruce Campbell so I usually buy anything he's in.

Its kind of a slasher/cop action flick...not very gory but good fun..Tom Atkins also stars as a hardboiled detective.
There is a special edition with Campbell comentary...

Yeah it's worth buying but get the new special edition FANGO reviewed in the December issue. I've got a shit bare bones region 2 effort - boooooo!

This is the sort of movie video shops were made for in the 80's. As a kid I would get my dad to rent movies just like this and I'd have a fucking blast!! Pure 80's trashy entertainment. :D

Defo worth a blind buy. Gotta say though, i think the sequel's superior.

Yeah there was this awesome video shop that closed because the guy who owned it won the lottery or something. I first saw 80's classics like CHOPPING MALL, SLAUGHTER HIGH, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS and loads more when I was about 13. I still haven't seen SLAUGHTER HIGH since the day I rented it from there about 12 years ago. :(

Dude, I saw Slaughter High back in 89 or 90 when I was 7 years old. I stayed up late one night and thought it was absolutely the best thing ever. I never saw it again... until last year when I found the dvd at a convention. It was nothing like what I remembered from when I was a kid. Absolutely cheesy with a plot that makes NO SENSE. Definitley under the "dumb fun" category. I did happen to meet Caroline Munro a couple months ago though and she was super cool. We talked about Maniac and then Slaughter High. I told her about when I first saw it and she said "Well that's not very suitable material for a child!" We had a good laugh. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Crazy...the one I referred to just started to get out-beat by the not too far Blockbuster(s). Sucks, it was such a different and better/amazing atmosphere. My dad and the owner used to talk for 30-40 minutes every time we went and just shoot the shit and from then on out they always remembered me asking how my Dad was and such.

They used to let you sign your name up to take a poster of your choice when they wanted/needed to get rid of it.

I remember $.98 rentals, $1.49 rentals and $3.25 for the new releases.

*tears*

It was Video Village, about 5 minutes from Lincoln High School and Frankford/Cottman.

Good stories dudes, good memories.

I remember when I was about 10 there was no internet and decent horror movie mags were few and far between (plus my pocket money was probably 50p a week then!) so horror movie news was hard to come by. I had no idea that there was even going to be a CHILD'S PLAY 3 but I went up to the counter of a video shop (my hands could barely reach up to the counter let alone my head!) and asked when it was being released. The look I got from the woman was a classic! You can tell she was wondering how the hell a little shit like me was allowed to watch violent horror films!! :p

Yeah...I was the same for 2-3 days...I used to cut my grandparents & their neighbors lawns when I was like 11-13 for about $25 which for a kid is "awesome".

I spent literally all of it at the video store and usually i'd go during the day and rent 2 movies or so and watch them at my grandparents who babysat me....there were 1 or 2 employees who didn't know my face and would try to question if I could rent certain movies but the mainstays would just walk over and joke "trust me hes allowed hes one our top customers" and I felt like the coolest dude ever. Later on they always asked if I saw every horror movie they had yet (which couldn't be done because my mom wouldn't let me get the 9 Witchcraft movies or I Spit On Your Grave...good thing, too haha.)

And TK - yeah, they had 2 locations, the other one was alllll the way the opposite end of Frankford Ave I believe, towards Academy Road.
