I can't really find any details, but a friend just informed me, and that's the only link I can find so far. If anyone finds out any details, post them.

EDIT: http://www.postchronicle.com/news/original/article_21268468.shtml

That article is saying it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Very sad. A comedy legend, for sure. RIP.

Man, just saw this on perezhilton.com. Total surprise. I liked his older stand up. Havent seen anything from him in a while, just a few things on Comedy Central. Very sad and very unexpected =(

Very sad way for a funny guy like that go.

He's kind of one of those guys wherein you see his name and say "Who?" and then see a picture and say "Ohhhh yeaaaahh. Now I remember."

Sad to hear though, I've seen some of the stuff he did a while back and thought it was pretty funny. It's a shame it had to come to that.

One of my kids watched the Mask about a million times so I remember him well. That is really sad. Wonder what brought about his despair.

There's been some talk that he was suffering from some medical problems, but I don't know if its been confirmed.

- On dating, "At least Charles Manson has the decency to look crazy from the moment you meet him."

- On relationships, "Honesty is the key to a relationship. If you can fake that, you're in."

- "My mother never saw the irony of calling me a son of a bitch."

- "You go to a steakhouse, guess what folks..no cow tank."

And my favorite:

- (On America's "A Horse With No Name"), "You're in the desert, you got nothing else to do. NAME THE FREAKIN' HORSE!"

Very sad news.

He appeared in The Mask with Jim Carrey - he played his friend who worked at the bank.

Very unfortunate; he was a very funny comedian.

I had to google him... I didn't recognize his name. It's sad that people commit suicide. You always wonder why someone would want to take their own life like that. There's other options... :(

Anyone thinking maybe he didnt do it, maybe his girlfriend did it and made it look like suicide?

"A Big Steaming Pile of Me" was fucking hilarious...I was literally ROFL at some parts. Damn....I wonder what was so fucked up in his life that he felt he needed to check out.

Btw, for those of you who aren't familiar with his stand-up, here's a few youtube clips:

that was the first question that came to my mind. He seemed like a happy guy when I saw him on Leno and other shows.

The only thing I can think of at present is the fact that he does talk about growing up in the Catholic Church a lot. He jokes that he was never molested and because of that, he was "A little insulted," but maybe that was just a bit. Maybe it was a traumatic experience that he was dealing with since childhood and refused to admit. It's pretty common nowadays, actually....

IMDB posted a statement released by his family saying that he had recently been diagnosed with severe depression and suffed from "psychotic paranoia."

I wondered about his health, because I didn't think he looked good for his age. If he had these illnesses his whole life, I imagine the stress finally got to him.

He starred in one of the first shows on UPN called "Platypus Man" based on his HBO show of the same name. It was pretty funny. I remember an episode that specifically made a jab at the whole "Woody Allen dating his step-daughter" thing, but in a real subtle way that was histerical.

This is sad news, but suicide doesn't surprise me as much as it used too.

Best wished to his family.
