Hottie James Marsden has ditched his "X-Men" brethren (and sexpots like Halle Berry and Famke Janssen) for a dress-wearing John Travolta -- talk about a downgrade!

Making a split from comic book movies ("X-Men" and "Superman Returns"), Marsden showed off his vocal prowess at ShoWest this week, at an event for his next flick, the film version of the musical "Hairspray" ... and damn, boy can sing!

The movie also stars Queen Latifah, who snatched an Oscar nom for "Chicago," and Michelle Pfeiffer, who proved her singing voice 25 years ago in the craptacular "Grease 2."

James Marsden is a star in the making.

With Superman now under his belt, I think we'll be seeing a lot more of him.

I find more and more that most actors and actresses are pretty decent singers; they take lessons to help their overall speech or something like that. Sometimes they actually use the lessons for real - especially since it looks like musicals are making a comeback: Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, etc. Most of the actors did their own singing in those flicks.

Well, between James Marsden and Hugh Jackman, maybe one day we'll see X-Men: The Musical. :D

In my X-Men review I even said ", Cyclops is a bitch (just like in the comics)." So apparently... I was RIGHT! HAH! :)

I kid, I kid. Way to go Marsden. I respect an actor that can express range and explore new avenues in entertainment. Successfully.

Aside from his celebrity underexposure, he's actually a very cool, funny guy. I'd personally love to see more stuff with HIM in the main lead.
