What are some movies that haven't been made or re-made you schmofos think would kick some serious ass or you know, just be flat-out entertaining/inspiring? [note: if you want, name a possible director]
Here's Mine:
01. A new version of The Wizard of Oz [director: Tim Burton]
02. Napoleon Bonaparte biopic [director: Oliver Stone]
03. A darker version of Robin Hood [director: Christopher Nolan]
04. Stephen King's The Man In The Black Suit would be a cool short film.
05. Stephen King's Gerald's Game would be a freaky movie indeed. [director: Eli Roth]
06. Stephen King's Bag of Bones would be interesting.
07. Richard Bachman's The Regulators. It would interesting to see Tim Burton direct a horror flick, especially one like this, that could implement his style easily. [director: Tim Burton]
Okay, now let's see yours! Comment on mine would be appreciated. ;)

new version of Wizard of Oz......as comic book guy would say "worst idea ever"
and they're already making a new version of robin hood, Nottingham, with Russell Crowe

I'd say a movie about Geralds Game sounds great. That was a scary book and made right the movie could be solid. However this hasn't been the case with most of Stephen Kings books.

The Witching Hour - By Anne Rice
The closest movie I seen to give off the vibe the book gave me was SKELETON KEY.
Ramses The Damned (The Mummy) By Anne Rice.

I would not object to a new version of The Wizard of Oz, but I personally would not elect Tim Burton to direct it. Not that he wouldn't do a good job, but because it is exactly the kind of movie everyone expects him to direct. It would be like typecasting, if the term can apply to directors as well. I mean, don't we pretty much all know what we'd be getting from a Burton Wizard of Oz? I'd like to see a less likely director take it on. And definitely not someone who is going to make a lousy "goth" version of it either. I bet Miyazaki could do wonders with the story. Stanley Kubrick would have been extremely interesting, especially since his hatred of the Judy Garland version was well-known.
Speaking of which, Kubrick's next project after A.I. was going to be a Napoleon Bonaparte biopic. But again, if it were going to be made, I wouldn't pick Oliver Stone, for much the same reason: it would be too typical of him. That's one of the reasons I think Alexander didn't work.
As for a movie I would like to see, I would like to see more religious stories adapted as films. The stories of Christ's birth and Christ's death/resurrection seem to be the only ones that filmmakers want to take on. Oh, and Moses. But there are a ton of great stories not just from the Bible, but from all religions, that could make excellent movies (if handled correctly). And no, I don't think Evan Almighty counts...:D
And going back to your Wizard of Oz idea, why not adapt the musical Wicked to the screen? It's a much better musical than Dreamgirls or The Producers are, and at the risk of being verbally assaulted by some Andrew Lloyd Weber fan who might be here, leagues above The Phantom of the Opera, and all of those movies have already made their way to film. Next time Hollywood wants to spend a bunch of money on a musical, I say pick Wicked.

Gerald's Game, maybe I need to read it but the book did almost nothing for me. It sounded interesting at first, and when that dog enters into the book it was pretty good but afterwords, I lost it. Maybe I wanted something else out of it.

Still waiting on The Hobbit; I don't see why we need another Wizard of Oz; the first one is still loved by a lot of people and fresh in people's minds.

I would love to see an epic, three hours-plus, big-budget biopic of Napoleon. However, I'd like to see Ridley Scott direct instead.
My Pick:
A film adaptation of the hit musical Wicked, with Tim Burton as director.

I've always wanted to see a movie about some sort of epic war between angels and demons, taking place on earth. Like a 3-hours long type of thing. I want to see crazy air battles between angels with giant wings and spears, and crazy winged demons. I think that'd be the coolest thing ever. I don't know if anyone would do it, though; it seems like there'd be a lot of religious controversy or something along those lines, for one reason or another. Plus it'd be a pretty big budget thing.
I really want to see a well-done adaptation of Clive Barker's WeaveWorld.
Escape from Earth and Terminator 4 (meaning a movie chronicling the end of earth and the war against and eventual victory over the machines) need to be made.
Wicked is a good idea, and Burton would be good for it. Either the book or the musical. I haven't seen the musical though.

I heard this was being made.
Also, for me, I'd like to see any of David Morrell's Bodyguard/Specialist books made or more Deaver books of Rhyme. Hamilton's Anita Blake books or Jim Butcher's fantasy stuff.

01. Nope! Can't remake that classic.
02. It has been done. No need for another.
03. They have made remakes of the story including a tv series in Great Britain but this is your best idea on the list.

Yeah, I've been gone a long time. Just got out of the Army so I have more free time. Let's just pray that the 2008 timetable stays true and we don't start a war with Iran.:p
Other than Inglorious Bastards, I'd like to see a Bryan Singer X-MEN 3. Seriously. It's one of the worst feelings in the world to see a decent franchise go to crap with a terrible ending. *COUGHMATRIXCOUGH*

A follow-up on 300 which shows what happens right after 300 ends. An adaptation of A Child Called It, which would be disturbing but if done right could be an excellent film. The full story of BTK done right and not anything like the amazingly shitty DTV version.

The Hobbit (hopefully with PJ) and The Silmarillion...can never get enough fantasy epics...and the other Narnia adventures even if the charaters change throughout the series. I would also love to see an Xmen 4 with Bryan Singer again now that he got that crappy superman out of his system.

One thing I want to see is a good Ninja movie. I was just watching American Ninja for the first time in a LONG time on HD Net Movies, and thought, I can't remember the last ninja movie made that was worth a damn. Something serious and epic though. Nothing corny like Beverly Hills Ninja
How about a movie based on the comic book character Lobo?
I'd also like to see a GOOD comedy based on softball. Beer League was horrible.

A David Fincher Alien film without Fox completely raping his production. I was really depressed when Danny Boyle declined an Alien sequel as well. Both of the aformentioned have PERFECT visual styles for an Alien film. Depressing.
ICE STATION [Matthew Riley] = THE GREATEST ACTION MOVIE EVER MADE. It's ludicrous a studio hasn't jumped all over this shit yet. It's pure fucking entertainment.

Now and forever, I'll say it again, Russell Crowe, Christopher Nolan, totally needs to happen.
Novels/Shorts That Need to Be Adapted:
Good Omens
The Long Walk
The Reach
Foucault's Pendulum
Fahrenheit 451
How about some video game/anime movies that don't shatter your childhood memories and make you vomit blood, I remember seeing Super Mario Bros. when I was a kid, it made me cry.
Trigun
Lupin the Third
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil
Maybe:
A down-to-earth, unsupernatural, raw, gritty, pirate movie
An Alexander the Great movie that doesn't bring my piss to a boil

As much as movies that are based off of books end up sucking I would like to see a movie based on Dean Koontz's book LIGHTNING and a few of the FEAR STREET books get turned into movies. They did the GOOSEBUMP series, so why not for FEAR STREET?
Sequels I wanna see
ALIEN 5
TERMINATOR 4 (during the actual war. Bring on the coolness)
SERENITY 2 (I can always dream can't I?)
STIR OF ECHOES 2 (Wanna see a movie about the group)
A BATMAN movie with Man-Bat and/or Clayface
WOLVERINE film with Sabretooth in it
GI JOE live action
X-FILES 2 (Where it continues where the show left off. How can you end the show with them on the run?)
ANGEL (again leaving the show on a cliff hanger. Not Joss Whedon's fault though. Damn you WB or UPN or whatever your called)
HOBBIT
An X-MEN movie that has Jubliee doing something. (I guess I can always watch the GENERATION X movie from the 90s)
JLA (with the big three)

Do I watch movies?
I'm just saying that most of the time a movie that's based on a book is nowhere near as good as the book itself is. JURASSIC PARK was a good movie, but you read the book and you're like "wow, this movie could of been so much better" I saw PHANTOMS and enjoyed that movie "Affleck, you the *bomb* in Phantoms yo!" but then I read the book and realized that compared to what it could of been the movie is garbage.

-Hell yeah... I hear they're working on Choke, which I'm in love with.. .but Lullaby is supposedly unfilmable which is a shame, it's probably my favorite of his books. Survivor is also very good and I think that actually is filmable so.. hopefully that will happen. I still need to read invisible monsters and Diary, but they're on the to do list.
- The Angels vs. Demons idea would be just amazing imo. It would really depend on who you got to direct it, but it could end up being out of this world... no pun intended. It'd probably have a lot of contreversey... but I'd set it as....
They're all Angles under one supreme ruler, they have to leave their Universe for a new one, when they get to this new universe, the supreme ruler couldn't follow, so two entities try to take his place, a God-ish being, and the highest ranking Angel, Lucifer. They battle for control of the universe with all the angels choosing sides and it ends up just being an all out war.... so hard to film, so much contraversey, yet would be so amazing... my take could be completely different from yours, but still the idea as a whole sounds great!

01. A new version of The Wizard of Oz [director: Tim Burton]
As a fan of the novels, I'd love to see a new NON-MUSICAL version. Think of it like Batman Begins--a completely new vision. It should be much darker. The 80's film Return to Oz is much closer to what the books are like.

That would be extremely interesting. I wonder if they could pull it off.
3. 1984
The version with John Hurt in it (released in 1984, how clever) is pretty good, if you haven't seen it. I mean, it's not great by any means, but it's certainly not an abomination of Orwell's book, and it's got a pretty good performance from Richard Burton as O'Brien
1984 is a tricky one though. The book is MASTERPIECE, with so many layers to it...there are so many ways the book could be interpreted, each of which gives a whole new meaning, a whole new theme, a whole new philosophy even. It would be extremely difficult to even come close to transferring that onto film. A lot of what makes the book great is the language Orwell uses. And plus it's got that whole section where it's basically just straight-up philosophy, which just isn't adaptable for screen. The best movie that could be made out of 1984 would be to scroll the text of the book across the screen.
