Ok, maybe I'm a pussy, but I so much don't want to watch these films...yet I am intrigued...somehow, I want to know what's in these films without having to watch them...plus I'm curious which is worse, the animal torture I've heard about in Cannibal Holocaust or the child/teenager torture that Salo has...or did I hear wrong...anyway, for those more manly than I who have seen these films and feel like re-living them, I'd appriciate it....just your opinion on which movie was "worse" for you and what exactly went on in the flicks....I'm really curious/troubled by the things the film crew does to the tribe that eventually gets them killed...does the film crew kill tribe members or what????? And why are kids being tortured in Salo, 120 of whatever???????
Why were these films even made, were they good or just gross and sickening?????

This is probably the wrong forum for this, better go in General. I haven't seen either but Cannibal Holocaust is probably worse, given that is REAL animal killing.

the animal snuff in holocaust is worse than anything in Salo....the latter film was more yawn inducing than anything else

Animals being slaughtered every day all over - "animal cruelty" is not a reason not to watch a movie. (It was not even pets.)
Cannibal Holocaust is exploitation. One of the most infamous one.
Salo is artsy fartsy auteur movie directed by on of the most well known directors in the world. I believe everybody agrees that Deodato never came close to the Pasolini's place in the world cinema.
Watch both. It's not as gruesome as everybody says. Warning: don't eat while watching Salo. :D

I posted it here because it seems to fit into that "most disturbing/shocking/gross film" catagory, but by all means mods, feel free to move it....If the animal stuff shot to be gross or just just like they're cooking food, like gutting a deer after you kill it.

Okay, let's see.
Salo - Terrible movie.
Cannibal Holocaust - Pretty good movie.
Salo - Vulgar and vile (it has the word 'sodomy' in its title for god's sake).
Cannibal Holocaust - As vulgar as watching NatGeo.
Salo - Staged deaths.
Cannibal Holocaust - Real animal killings, animals were eaten.
Salo - Very graphic.
Cannibal Holocaust - Mildly graphic.
Take your pick. I'd go with the one that doesn't suck.

I Don't think i'm gonna watch either, but I hear on the boards a lot that these two are the "most fucked up ever", and for some reason I've been morbidly curious about CH for the past day or so...but Requium for a Dream made me feel bad for like a month and not just mentally..I saw the tralier for Blood Diamond a day or so after watching requium and when Jennifer Connely came up I couldn't look at her and my stomach felt weird...I don't think I can take, "mud ball with spikes in the pussy" which apparentlyh CH has...maybe with Grindhouse so close I''ve been thinking about CH cause Tarantino mentioned in an interview or something...i dunno...thanks for the info....I'm suprised though, I figured Salo would be concidered tamer since it's fake...

I personally found Requiem much, much harder to watch than Cannibal Holocaust. You keep hearing all these things that the movie 'has' (like a live abortion! omg!) and imagine it's the most explicit thing ever when it isn't. And it rarely comes out as shocks only for shocks.
I direct you to this review thread (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=1630675#post1630675) . Mainly, the review of the schmoe "C-Desecration-" is the best you're going to find about the movie. Trust me, it's not that bad. Have in mind that a lot of people are going to tell you how awful it was only so they don't get called psychos. Not pointing at anyone in particular, but it does happen and often, so you might want to make up your own mind about it.
Oh and these movies are far from being the 'most fucked up'.

Subject matter does not make a movie terrible. If you are referring to Pasolini I can only suggest an open mind and more of his movies to watch. Just give it a try.
On the other hand, some viewers think Julia Roberts is a great actress...
Got to live with horrifying disagreements.

Salo sucks for reasons that have nothing to do with shit eating and ball burning.

You never gave any reasons.
Did you read Marquis de Sade's novels it was based on? In my experience those who read analyzed and evaluated Salo very differently.

Basically, it's a movie based on the writings of an author who was never respected in any way by anyone. He was known because his twisted little head fascinated people and disgusted people, not because his literature was particularly rich. So the film is basically a plot made to show how 'crazy' a story can get without ever showing any trace of dimension in either the characters or plot, not to mention that it has no theme behind it. It's just shocks. As opposed to Cannibal Holocaust which does have a heart (if you want more reasons, my review is linked to up there).
And no, I never read the Marquis' novel. And I don't think that's relevant to the thread because chances are that the one who's asking which one we prefered hasn't either.
So, Potzer! 37, if you ever get interested in "Salo", read the book first, otherwise there's a big chance you won't get it. Like I didn't.
