Whats everyones recent favorite horror movie? As of a week or so ago I've got a new one - this film called Sublime. Its about a hospital where they kill people instead of save them - pretty creepy. Anyone seen this or know any other good ones?

Silent Hill was great. I also liked The Hills Have Eyes a lot.

And if we were to include late 2005, then I'd add Wolf Creek. I thought Wolf Creek was excellent.

I can't think of one :(

That's kind of sad, really. Recently, I enjoyed Dead Silence (6/10) a tad bit. It was good in that old fashioned ghost story kind of way.

Saw III was also okay in that "third film in a franchise" kind of way...

Other than that, I was disappointed with the horror films I saw in the last couple of years such as:

Silent Hill
Slither

I can't think of anymore I've even seen. I tend to avoid remakes and straight to dvd's so I guess I missed a lot of horror.

I don't think I've seen a single horror movie from last year (there are too few worthy ones to choose from), although I have The Descent backed up somewhere in my Netflix queue.

Unless you count The Host, which received some releases last year and which I liked, and I only just saw that today...

i can't think of one, mainly because the horror movies these days just suck, they're more about "lets show the goriest most disturbing things we can and who cares what the story is"

SAW III

Hopefully, GRINDHOUSE, HOSTEL:PART II and HALLOWEEN will make the list.

The Descent and Hills Have Eyes are two of my favorite horror movies ever. I loved them right away.

From '06, I would say The Descent, heads and shoulders above the rest.

For this year, nothing yet.

Well if Pan's Labyrinth counts as horror then add that one to my list. Really good movie.

The Descent isn't just the best horror film of the '06-'07 period, it's the best horror film of the decade far and away. It's the only truly great horror movie since The Blair Witch Project, and it's incredibly technically accomplished and tense.

There have been a handful of other "decent" horror movies since '99, but that's it. I don't really consider The Devil's Rejects or The Crimson Rivers horror, so more or less every major movie in the genre has been atrocious for several years.

Am I the only one who found The Descent to be incredibly average and underwhelming? There's nothing remotely specail about it IMO. Would have been a much better movie if it was just about them getting out of the cave and trying to survive instead of uneccessarily adding those creatures to the movie.
