Brandon Lee at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Lee) and IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000488/) .
March 31 will be the fourteenth anniversary of Brandon Lee's death in 1993 while making The Crow. It's almost unbelievable to me that it's been that long.
I first saw Brandon Lee in Showdown in Little Tokyo. There was some hype around it, being that he was the son of Bruce Lee. The movie is absurd, but Lee had a real genuine charisma that was obviously captivating. Then came Rapid Fire, which was essentially a Van Damme/Seagal clone of a movie, only starring Lee instead. Same deal. The movie is so so, but Lee owns the screen whenever he's on. It's clear that he was destined to become a big star.
I knew I wanted to make movies, and Brandon Lee was one of the few actors I could look at and say "I want to make a movie starring that guy."
I was already a fan before he made The Crow. I knew little about the comic it was based on, but I had heard he was making the movie. Then came his shocking death due to an on set accident in which they were filming, of all things, his character's death.
Back in 1993, we didn't have the internet in every home and non stop news coverage the likes of which Anna Nicole got. I had to stay glued to E! for any information, which was little. I clipped out and saved any news paper articles that came out. His fiance was from the Kansas City area, so his death got a little more coverage here than it probably did elsewhere.
The Crow was completed and released a year later and the rest or the world saw what I already knew - Brandon Lee was a movie star. It's sad to think about what could have been with him when you see how good he is in The Crow.
I became obsessed with The Crow and Lee for a couple years after. It's still in my top ten favorite movies.
