It's REALLY close between Godfather and LOTR, but I chose LOTR.

I'll be the first to say Star Wars, then.

1.) Godfather I + II (far and away the best)
2.) Star Wars IV + V (still quite great)
3.) LOTR (good, but far from great and riddled with flaws)

I'm not a big Star Wars/LOTR fan, so I choose The Godfather without hesitation.

I own all on DVD, but The Godfathers reign supreme in my eyes.

Well, since you've excluded the third entries in both the Star Wars and Godfather trilogies, that makes this a little harder to choose. The Lord of the Rings is by bottom pick of the three choices, only because the uneven Two Towers drags it down a little bit. You know, I actually like both Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back more than The Godfather Part II, so perhaps I should have voted for that. But no, I had to go with the Godfather movies, simply because none of the Star Wars movies, even if I like them (and even Return of the Jedi, to be perfectly honest) more than The Godfather Part II, they still can't even compete with The Godfather, which is one of those rare untouchable masterpieces of cinema.

1. Star Wars Episodes IV and V
2. The Godfather Part I and II
3. The LOTR trilogy
And why exclude Return of the Jedi? It wasn't horrible at all.
