Superman > Superman II > Spider-Man > Spider-Man 2 > Superman Returns > Superman 3 > Superman 4
Overall, I definetly have to give it to Superman. As a comic book hero, he's simply the best. As the basis for a film franchise, while I loved the original Spider-Man (8/10) the second one was a big letdown (6/10). And though Superman has spawned a couple bad movies, Donner's original (10/10) is still the only comic book movie that is an absolute masterpiece.

SPIDER-MAN.
Superman Returns put me to fucking sleep, and the character is boring as hell.:(
Superman 1 and 2 were great, but so was Spider-man 1 and 2.
Superman 3 and 4, on the other hand, sucked ass.

Every single one of the shitty Superman movies are boring as hell. He is such a boring superhero, and the movies relate this idea. I would rather watch Fantastic Four, Hulk, Daredevil, hell, even Ghost Rider over any Superman movies. They are so ungodly boring. Atleast these movies kept my attetnion and were good eye candy.
The Spiderman movies are the best superhero movies ever made. No question!! (Except maybe Batman Begins)

If we are talking about movies, then it's Superman
If we are talking about comics, then it's Spiderman
If we are talking about who we rather be, then it's Superman.

have to go with spiderman because he is just cooler...superman is in bad need of a wardrobe upgrade...although I loved Superman 2 growing up I have to say the Spiderman movies are among my favorite comicbook movies along with Xmen 2 and Batman Begins

Well, I wasn't sure whether you were asking for the better superhero, or the better movie series. I just assumed it was movie series, since we're in a movie forum. So I went with Superman. Although it really isn't fair to judge yet since there have been 5 Superman movies vs. only 2 Spider-Man movies, the first two Superman movies are about as good as superhero movies can be. In fact, I think Superman II was the greatest superhero movie made until Batman Begins came out 2 years ago. I'll even excuse the poor quality of Superman 3 & 4 and the underwhelming, overblown Superman Returns just for how truly good the first two movies are.
The first Spider-Man movie was good, though it sometimes bordered on Power Rangers territory, especially with that ridiculous Green Goblin costume. The second one was a huge improvement, and ranks up there with those first two Superman movies and Batman Begins with the best superhero movies ever made. I personally think the trailers for Spider-Man 3 don't look very promising, but then again, I didn't think the trailers for the 2nd one looked much better. So we'll see.
All that being said, if we're just going strictly by the superheroes in themselves, then it's got to be Spider-Man. He's not as cool as Batman, but he's a close second in the realm of comic book heroes.

Superman could kill batman and spiderman at the same time instantly...that cool enough for you. Comic book characters should not be judged for how "cool" they are..they are not supposed to be fucking dirty harry...they should be judged for what they stand for...superman is by far hands down the best comic book character and even if u guys wanna make fun of me...superman returns is one of my fav movies...only films ahead of it are LOTR.

In terms of the movies, Spiderman. In terms of the characters, Superman.

Spider-Man. Superman is so... he's such a boring character who is scared of a rock and wears his jocks on the outside.

Every single Superman movie to come out has been over the top boring. When I hear people comparing Superman vs. Superman Returns and they claim that Superman is 10x better, I am just blown away. THEY ARE THE SAME FUCKING MOVIE!!!
I have tried to like the Superman movies, and was even there on midnight for SR. But, dammit, I can't. They are boring as shit and offer very little emotional appeal. Unlike Spiderman and Batman Begins, where wwe see the transformation of the character before they become superheroes.
My dislike for Superman aside, both Batman Begins and the two Spiderman movies are in a class way above any Superman movie ever made.

I'm probably gonna go with Spider-man, here. Just because he has a better selection of villains, and a superhero is only as good as their villains.
Superman has Lex Luthor, and that's basically the only villain of his that anyone knows. Generally. But spider-man has the green goblin, doc ock, venom, the vulture, the lizard, sandman, hobgoblin, rhino, shocker, carange, the list goes on.
Also, being invincible, superman's only weakness is kryptonyte. Which is used waay too much as a weapon and it gets boring.
But Spidey on the other hand has all these problems: faulty powers that screw up and come back randomly, the battle from "within" concerning the black alien suit, and there was even that one point where spidey goes all crazy mutated into that giant spider creature. Now THAT's a problem.
I would definitely like Superman better if they did something better with the character, but it's always the same damn thing. He has a GREAT back story, he's the great, classic father of all superheroes, really. But the writers of the comics, shows, and movies are almost only satisfied with that only. It worked with Superman 1, and 2 had some interesting elements like him losing his powers, but after that, the well seems to be dry. Even in the comics, the fucking INFAMOUS issue in which supes DIES, by the hands of Doomsday-- when you think about it, Doomsday is such a lame villain. Not at all worthy of "killing" superman.
All in all, I like Superman in the "He's the original, the classic, he must be respected" kind of way, and I really like how he's not a whiny little bitch like Peter Parker, but the Spider-man universe is more exciting and that just slightly gives Spidey the advantage.
For the record, though, Batman owns them both.
Superman...by light years. Spiderman is a weak plagiarism and the movies sucked.
