Ok, so I'm a little confused on the American Psycho ending...

*SPOILERS*

Now I know that Patrick Bateman imagined the entire movie, but the ending suggests that he is not Patrick, so who is he?

I think this is a movie you can make your own interpretations with,honestly...even if there is one solid answer,I think this is one of those instances were your allowed to almost, cheat(?) and make your own vision for the movie as a whole....

I personally look at it as : he imagined all the things he wanted to do,and we basically just explored his mind for throughout the movie with some random shots of truth.

Here is my interpretation.
Bateman never killed anyone. As great as his life may have appeared, it was actually quite dull and meaningless. Yes he was a successful business man with plenty of money, but what did he and his friends do all day everyday? They went to restaurants. Not to mention that he thought his friends were incredibly boring people(except Bryce).
So what does he do? He invents a complete alternate reality for himself. When Carnes tells Patrick that "Bateman is such a pussy. Now if you said Bryce..." That's the kind of guy Bateman was. A pussy.
If you ask me that makes him far more crazy because of how he was able to so utterly convince himself that he was actually doing those murders.

I watched this one for the first time a few months ago and was really disappointed. It had AFDS (April Fools Day Syndrome) where it turns out that nothing really happened but thats not really what bothered me. I was just bored throughout. Nothing wrong with Bale's performance or anything. I just didn't find myself drawn to this one. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.
