my wife just sent me this at work:
http://www.tmz.com/2007/04/04/christmas-story-director-killed-in-l-a-car-crash/
Bob Clark, director of "A Christmas Story" and a producer of the "Porky's" films, was killed today on California's famed Pacific Coast Highway when his car was hit head-on by an SUV driven by a man who was later arrested for being under the influence of alcohol.

Clark's son, 22-year-old Ariel Hanrath-Clark, was riding with his father and was also killed in the crash.

TMZ has learned that police arrested 24-year-old Hector Velazquez-Nava, the driver of the SUV, on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, and that Velazquez-Nava will be booked once he is released from the hospital. We're told that Velazques-Nava had a female passenger whose status is unknown at this time.

According to police, the Clarks were riding in a silver Infiniti around 2.30 AM Wednesday on PCH in Pacific Palisades. The Infiniti was badly damaged in the crash, and the SUV's front end was mangled.

Damn, I just read about it on Yahoo...I really feel bad for the rest of the family, losing two of its members in such a tragic way.

Thanks, Mr. Clark for giving us BLACK CHRISTMAS, A CHRISTMAS STORY and PORKY'S!!!

I expeced this story to be of natural causes, not DUI. Man...

Personally, I hate "A Christmas Story" with a burning passion, "Porky's" was kinda funny, and "Black Christmas" is a damn good horror movie (the remake sucked really, really hard balls). This guy worked in at least three entirely different genres in ways so many other directors couldn't touch, ultimately pleasing many more movie-goers in the process.

The blood-curdling and nightmarish "Christmas-Story-a-thons" on Christmas day (loved by apparently everyone on the planet but me) . . .

The numerous sex-comedies he inspired (and loved by perverts all over the world) . . .

His unintentional inpsiring of my favorite horror movie and the decade of horror to follow . . .

It's true, this man will be missed in more than three ways. And to go away like that...that stupid driver better serve a long sentence (or the penalty death).

Besides expressing my sympathies--as everyone else has done--I really can't say much since I think the only movie of his I saw (besides parts of ACS) was Porky's. But I did just realize something else.

His final film was...Baby Genuises 2.

Very sad news. I don't care about Baby Genuises; he will always be one of my favourite directors. He could make a classic for any genre. He will be greatly missed for sure.

Isn't it strange that the drunk driver and his passenger are still alive while these two people are dead? How does that always happen?

Anway, nothing good ever comes from being out on the road at that time of night if you can help it.

The poor family.

I loved A Christmas Story. A master film, IMO.

A Christmas Story and Black Christmas more than makes up for those Baby Geniuses films.

R.I.P. Mr. Clark, you were a talented filmmaker and gave me the sort of nostalgic memories to live by.
