I had to go with Howard Shore. I love John Williams and all, but Shore has made some excellent scores. It's really too bad he's only mainly recognized for the LOTR trilogy.

John Williams. Too bad Ennio Morricone or Bernard Herrmann isn't in that poll. Let's get some more people that were in the business before 1985!

All the guys all this poll are great except for Eric Serra. I have never heard of his that I can think off. I voted for John Willams. He is pretty much the reason I got into movie scores. He has some of the iconic scores for movies. He also did the score for the Olympics.

Bernard Herrmann is definetly the all-time best. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be asking who is the best film composer or just who is the best out of this list. Of your choices, I went with Williams.

Yeah, John Williams' stuff is catchier but Hans Zimmer is by far the best.
And where the hell is Clint Mansell! That man deserves some recognition!

Caught Once Upon a Time on TMC the other day, and man, Morricone really out did himself with that score. I had forgotten just how fucking good the score is in that film and how, even amongst such a film where every single aspect is a complete masterwork, it stands out as a defining feature.
Morricone is the muthafuckin' Godfather, man.

I went with John Williams, though they've all made some great scores. Hans Zimmer's score for The Thin Red Line is one of my top 10 all-time favorites, but John Williams has The Empire Strikes Back, which is top 5 material, not to mention Schindler's List, E.T., etc. It's gotta be Williams.

Which Once Upon a Time? America and The West both have great scores. IMO, Once Upon a Time in the West is the better and one of the best.
