I know this movie isn't quite horror, but I was wondering if it was worth a look considering I am a HUGE fan of Lynch and his bizzare films. Did this movie come out after the show was cancelled? Is this just a movie version of the show? Do I need to see the show before I see this? Someone please tell me what the deal is with this movie.

I would recommend watching the series first...
The movie is a prequel and answers the question to the biggest mystery of the early 90's - who killed Laura Palmer?
So, if you watch this movie first - the series won't be quite as intriguing or mysterious.

They should be watched in this order:
2 hour television pilot
29 episodes of the show
then
Fire Walk With Me.
Yes, it is worth a watch but pretty much only after you've seen the TV show.

i loved this movie .david bowie is in it and chris isaak to but i didn`t get the bit with the ring? and him vanishing.
i found this on imdb:The movie originally ended showing Dale sitting in the Black Lodge, comforting Laura after she entered. It then cut to the last scene of the TV series, with Harry breaking down the door of the bathroom and finding Dale smashing his head into the mirror and laughing. Dale tries to act like nothing happened, but is dragged off to bed. This was to confirm that it was Dale's doppelganger that escaped the Black Lodge.

It is one of my favorites from Lynch as well but yes, you won't get anything out of it if you haven't seen the series first.
