This needs to be moved to the Upcoming Movie Forums.

I've heard that Tobey Maguire isn't coming back though. Do you know if that's true? I've heard something about Jake Gyllenhaal taking over. He seems like the obvious choice to me.

Signing on to play Spidey in those films would be a horrible, horrible career choice for Gyllenhaal.

Maybe, maybe not. I think it would be a great career choice for him. And if not, he can still laugh all the way to the bank.

Yes, but Gyllenhaal's recent roles would lead me to believe he's not too concerned about the paycheck right now. Tobey Maguire IS SpiderMan at this point, and I don't think Gyllenhaal wants to be typecast that way, especially when he'll also have to deal with fanboys arguing over whether or not he's better.

I'm not 100% convinced; it's a very short blurb about such a huge topic. I'll wait for a little more confirmation from Sony and Raimi himself.

If it is true, who knows how good they'll be without the original cast and crew.

I would love to see Gyllenhall as spidey...I always thought he would of been way better than toby imo

I guess I am dissapointed and excited at the same time.

I mean, I love Spiderman, so to be able to watch three more movies of him on the big screen will be fun.

But, I really don't want to watch a non Raimi/Maguire Spiderman movie. I just don't want to. Raimi's passion for the characters is why the movies are so great, and his vision just seems to fit right in with the chracter of Spiderman.

If theyare going to make these three movies regardless, atleast bring back Raimi to direct. If Tobey comes back and no one from the original cast comes back, then just go ahead and recast Tobey as well. It would be pointless to have just one member of the cast come back, and that's it.

I'm torn......

I think that Gyllenhaal has already established that he's a good and fairly versatile actor. I don't think being cast as Spider-Man would harm his career much, if at all. People already know how good of an actor he is. I mean, he has an Oscar nomination under his belt already.

Besides, playing Batman doesn't seem to be hurting Christian Bale. And if anything, playing Wolverine only helped Hugh Jackman's career. So I don't think Gyllenhaal would be "typecast" as Spider-Man. And he's not a supehero, but you can't tell me that playing Captain Jack Sparrow is doing any harm to Johnny Depp's career.

I think the only time playing a superhero or something like that would ever really hurt someone's career is if they were unknown before taking the role. Because then, people have nothing other than that superhero role to consider when thinking of roles for him to play. For instance, I don't think playing Superman is going to get Brandon Routh a lot of good roles. Eric Bana is currently trying to revitalize his career after The Hulk damaged it. We'll see how successful he is.

I'd say Munich pretty much dug Bana out of whatever ditch that he was supposedly in for Hulk. (In my opinion, it only solidified him as a better actor for doing Hulk, but to each their own.)
