At the Los Angeles press junket today, Spider-Man 3 director Sam Raimi confirmed that Sony Pictures is doing a 4th, 5th and 6th installment of the popular franchise.
We'll have his exact words shortly, but Raimi said that he hasn't had time to think of any involvement and he doesn't want to presume Sony would want him to direct.
He said there has to be a good story to tell and that "it'd be very hard to say goodbye to 'Spider Man.'"
Spider-Man 3 opens in conventional theaters and IMAX on May 4

That sounds crazy! Three more movies...I don't know how good they would be if we lost Raimi and Toby (who said he won't do anymore, right?). I just can't tell...I would have to see who will play Spidey after Toby to make a decision.

I see another Xmen conclusion happening. Everyone gets killed off. Too many characters introduced at once. Please let the 3rd be the last...

I'm sure Sony will make 6 Spiderman movies but they wont be the same without Raimi/Maguire.

I'm all for more Spider-man movies. If they lose Toby and Raimi they just need to make damn sure they have a good story, but definitely don't call it quits. Spider-man is more than an actor. Hell, if Batman can do it, so can Spidey.

I'll say the same thing I said in the General Movie forum; I'm not 100% convinced they're making three more, especially if they will be without the main cast and crew returning.

They could get rid of Mary Jane, but they need to keep Tobey as spiderman. After 3 movies, I don't think it would translate well to audiences for a new guy playing Spidey. It worked for Batman because it was Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, Bale in 4 different movies. Tobey, Tobey, Tobey, some-disneychannelfuck, wouldn't work NEARLY as well.

Good series come in threes. Trilogies are the quintessential size of a movie series. Any more is usually too much. And three more, no less WITHOUT Raimi and the crew? No thanks, I'll pass on that.

Ugh...way to find someone even MORE obnoxious and unlikeable than Kirsten Dunst...
Hmmm...let's see...who has red hair, is unbelievably gorgeous, and is someone who everyone loves?
Oh, wait, ME! That's right....I SHOULD PLAY MARY JANE IN THE NEXT TRILOGY.

Well they should do a slightly older Spider-man.
And get Rachel Mcadams as Mary Jane.

I suppose it could work if they casted it well but recasts are always inferior. I hope Maggie G is an exception.

Hey, remember 7 years ago, before X-Men was released, and comic book movies were few and far between?
Welcome to overkill.

THIS IS NOT TRUE.
I was there at the press junket she's talking about. Sam Raimi never confirmed ANYTHING. Somebody SAID that Avi Arad confirmed 4, 5, 6, and then asked Raimi if he'd be interested. Raimi said it all depends on whether there's a good story to tell.
The person asking the question was just bullshitting. He had previously asked producer Avi Arad about whether another trilogy was happening, and if they'd continue with Maguire or Raimi, or create a whole thing, etc. But Arad didn't give any sort of definitive answer. He just said, "It all depends."
And that's literally the answer to all rumors like these. Except instead of just saying, "It all depends," they should add, "On money."
