View Full Version : "MACHETE" ...2008

Looks like many of us will be getting their wish in 2008. It seems this fake "Grindhouse" trailer will be made after all. I might add that this will be a Direct To Video..................
The highly skilled Federale Machete is hired by some unsavory types to assassinate a senator. But just as he's about to take the shot, he notices someone aiming at him and realizes he's been set up. He barely survives the sniper's bullet, and is soon out for revenge on his former employers, with the reluctant assistance of his old friend Cheech Marin, who has become a priest and taken a vow of nonviolence. If you hire him to take out the bad guys, make sure the bad guys aren't you!

Yeaaaaah . . . with the poor box office receipts that Grindhouse has brought; I wouldn't anticipate another ANYtime soon. Which is another reason why I'm a little skeptical about this movie happening.

i hear they might do Sin City 2 and 3 at the same time and release them a few months apart. Probobly because one of the main factors in Sin Cty 2's delay is getting all the actors schedules in line, shooting two for one might be the smartest thing to do.
as for machete, i say leave it as a trailer. I can't imagine getting much more entertainment out of a feature.

it's so perfect as a fake trailer, i wish they would just let it be. i know i'm in the minority here but i really don't want to see a full Machete movie. hopefully robert will have enough to keep him busy and he'll let this go. the whole point from the beginning was to make trailers for "fake" movies.

Maybe its just me but why are people excited about this. I loved the trailer and I thought it was a great idea for a quick little fake trailer but I really dont see the point of a full-length film especially since I got my Grindhouse experience with Grindhouse itself. This just seems like a geek film like Snakes On A Plane that nobody else will be interested in and probably wont be that good either.

Machete has been pushed back to the Fall. :(
However, here's some awesome news:
Machete will be released in the fall of 2010 by 20th Century Fox. Following his split with Rose McGowan, Rodriguez did not produce the "Cherry Darling" trailer as intended. Instead, the film will be bookended by trailers: preceding the film will be a fake trailer by Quentin Tarantino, to be filmed in March 2010, called "Agent Orange", following a British Soldier (in 1975) who plans to re-start the Vietnam War. The trailer will feature Tim Roth as "Agent Ringo Orange", the Soldier with a Vengaence; Rick Yune as "Li Chan", his South Vietnamese Sidekick; Stacy Keach as "Doc Franklin", the supposed villain; and Sacha Baron Cohen as "Colonel Weathers", the hotheaded former commanding officer. The trailer following the film will be "Die, Machete, Die!", directed by Ethan Maniquis, as a proposed sequel to Machete starring Danny Trejo as "Machete" and Til Schweiger as "The Human Savage".

It's so awesome that Danny Trejo is getting a starring role. That man is a legend. I hope they continue making grindhouse movies. I think it should be the type of thing that this group of directors go on and make in between projects. Say if Tarantino has his new movie scheduled to start filming at the end of the year, he could just pump out a fun little blaxploitation movie before then.

IMO the machete trailer clearly showed it was an homage, but the expendables trailer didn't. I've heard people involved with the movie comment about the expendables having something to do with a throwback to the 80s, but I wonder if that's an irony the fans put on it or an irony the filmmakers intended for it. I trust in the fans. There's cheesy and then there's bad, and nothing... I didn't see anything about the look or music in expendables to make me think oh, it's an homage to cheesy 80s movie. For that reason I'm more interested about machete. At least it's definitely in on the joke.

Agree with all of this. Let me just say that THIS is what the Expendables trailer should have looked like. Just all-out, balls-to-the-wall over-the-top exploitation action. I loved the fact that they used shots from the trailer shown before Grindhouse in the REAL trailer for the REAL film as well. Makes it feel more authentic (and more over-the-top, of course!) I'm actually really excited about this! The trailer is everything I could have asked for/imagined and more.
And about The Expendables... well, like Shinigami said: The trailer just takes itself too seriously! It goes through the motions - the all-star cast, the cheesy action, the ridiculous plot set-up - but it never once goes so far over the top that you are sure it's an homage. It's just not exaggerated enough. It's like Rambo IV, which I thought was absolutely dismal BECAUSE it took itself too seriously! And yes, I know it didn't take itself that seriously, but there's that and there's full-on over-the-top schlock, like Machete. And I definitely feel like THAT'S the way to go!

^I don't expect a movie like machete to have any message the audience isn't supposed to laugh at. Besides, it's almost the perfect exploitative bent. Including current events and cultural issues into some ridiculous 'ploitation is an honored tradition in these movies. I want to see black dynamite killing the honkies and I wouldn't mind seeing machete gunning (or machete-ing?) his way to citizenship. "We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us" is awesome.
Yeah damn the state of Arizona for trying to uphold the law
Yeah I won't get started on anything too political, but this is already federal law. From what I understand Arizona isn't inventing new legislation, they're just taking existing legislation nobody has implemented seriously and putting it into effect because we're having problems with illegal immigration. Point blank. The border cities are getting hell because of illegal immigrants and traffickers, and even beyond that somebody has to do something about illegal immigration and this is just an extreme first step. I doubt it will last without developing into either a compromise or a fullout reinvention of immigration law and immigration law conduct, but it's a first step and that's always going to be the most awkward stride when going anywhere. I just wish it was easier for mexicans to get citizenship and easier for them to be legal citizens (fyi- it's fucking hard and it's fucking long).
Still. "We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us!" Pretty fucking funny. And any sanctimonious lectures that precede or follow will only make it funnier. I'm game for Machete burning down the border with a flamethrower because that's exploitation. All the better for me to laugh at.

I enjoyed that trailer quite a bit. Being one of the few people who didn't really think Black Dynamite was as good as it could have been, I think Machete just may milk the exploitation angle for all its worth. It's pretty ingenious that there really hasn't been a Latino exploitation film/character of this kind in American cinema. The closest is probably El Mariachi. The timing for this movie to come out is just too perfect and I hope it becomes a sleeper hit. It actually looks pretty funny.
And it has Robert De Niro and Steven Seagal in the same movie! That's a bit of a mind fuck to me.

That was BRILLIANT marketing in on their part. By deliberately invoking the controversial illegal immigration law and by relying so heavily on the illegal immigration angle, this movie is going to generate a LOT of publicity. Even though it's a cheesy B movie, I can see it and lines like "we didn't cross the border, the border crossed us" generating a lot of buzz.

That movie looks cheesier than a five layer cheese dip from Wisconsin. I mean seriously... what the fuck? Racist Rodriguez? Rodriguez is one of the least bit political directors around. Second trailer was oddly incoherent... I can't imagine that this is actually any sort of final trailer. The previously released trailer, that used most of the footage from the original Grindhouse trailer with added De Niro, Alba, Rodriguez and Lohan, seemed to tell far more about the plot than the new trailer.
Also, did anyone else notice that Lohan's name was conspicuously missing from the run-through of the cast in the second trailer? I guess they're really starting to fear all the negative press around her, and are down-playing her involvement in the film. Sad, if you ask me.

Posted by:R Zimmerman Another hideously violent film from a country that seems to delight in showing nothing but these days, as far as movies are concerned. Think how much money is spent on showing people dying on screen in ever more sick, graphic and torturous ways. And kids are growing up watching this ****e - WANTING to see people suffer - in tandem with console games that exist only to allow people to indulge their mindless violent fantasies. We've turned into a sick culture people. think about it......

This country loves violence, but it can't take any pot shots, even in the form of a fucking exploitation-parody movie. Seriously, we love violence in films, but not if there's a cheesy fake political agenda in the movie. The movie was written and made before the law in Arizona ever passed. Just because he says one line of a dialogue before a trailer doesn't mean the movie was meant to be a statement against anything. It's ridiculous. Rodriguez has never had a political agenda in any of his films beyond promoting some diversity in his cast.
This country is filled with babies who can't take a joke, but we can sure as hell destroy the rest of the world.

Saw the trailer in front of Predators; looked entertaining and it did look like a Rodriguez film. Loved the Cheech Marin bits towards the end of the preview.

I can't believe how naive some people are.
Did this person wake up one morning and realize how violence obssessed America is? Come on!
To paraphrase the great film "No Country for Old Men", the nation has always been a violent place that's hard on people, it's the dark side of America that many refuse to admit. The country didn't suddenly turn violent a few years ago, it's always been this way in one form or another. You can look no further than the romanticism of armed revolution, firearms, the Civil War, the wild west, & war in general.
That said this movie is pure self-conscious cheese. It's violence seems cartoonish and deliberately over the top. It isn't meant to be taken seriously, in fact, that's its charm. This isn't Hostel or Funny Games, which are far more disturbing in their presentation of violence.

I can't believe people think a chessy movie like this would be too violent. Your right, this isn't some snuff movie or anything like that. Also this movie won't have any race wars. If someone think it cause a race war, then a war Mel Gibson will cause a war between him and black people.

Not every director wants to make great movies. Some of them, like Rodriguez enjoy making movies like these.

2. I think its bullshit that this film and its actor are attacking Arizona

Well, as a mostly Conservative, I can state that
1. I like Hannity
2. I think its bullshit that this film and its actor are attacking Arizona.
3. I SUPPORT Arizona's decision.
4. I liked the MACHETE trailer and will see this movie. It's just that... an action movie. Steven Seagal and reality should never be confused.

This guy sounds like a D-list version of Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity.
I don't know who the hell this guy is but this thread made me listen to more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQbUTHlNs8A&feature=related
It really is hard to argue with anything the guy says in this link.
He promotes free speech and everyone's right to make whatever film they want and to see whatever they want, just don't use taxpayer dollars to do it. He expresses valid concerns about violence and it seems like Rodriguez has backed off all the race war stuff. So, what's the problem? It's a Seagalish B-movie actioneer.

Wow. Tits and ultra-violence. Seriously, what more could we ask for?
I also still love how they've effectively managed to completely cover up the fact that Lohan is even in this. I guess her cred is just SO far down the shitter by now, that they realized that she's going to do far more bad for this film than good.
However, the considerable volumes of full female nudity in this film should make up for that, probably :P

This is still my most anticipated movie of 2010. It should be an awesome time. I'm hoping for a midnight showing at one of my local theaters. That would be sweet.

The cast of this movie is what makes me think I might see it, because other than that I'm sure it'll have good action, etc. but it doesn't look as good as I thought it would since the trailer was first released.
*I did notice in a trailer that I just saw for this movie, that director Nimród Antal is credited as Booth's Bodyguard #1 and is seen at the end of the trailer. I just thought it was interesting that he was casted, since Antal had just finished work on Predators with Rodriguez.

This movie has no chance in hell of making money by using the mainstream because it basically has everything americans currently hate. But I will still see it because the Machete fake trailer was amazing, and if that can be amazing then can the film.

Only if your some person who thinks Obama is a socialist and thinks people who hate Bush is un-American, then they might hate this movie. Otherwise people won't care. They will see it as a silly but fun film.
