Did anybody say "epic"? The first film was a taught and well-crafted period drama. But this one really seems like it's upping the ante, with a far grander scale. I only have two things to say:

1. This looks absolutely and utterly FANTASTIC.

2. Give Cate Blanchett another Oscar already.

Thoughts? Anyone else as intrested in this film as I am?

wasnt expecting much of this (i've never found Elizabeth to be a very interesting person) but after watching the trailer i'm quite looking forward to it, looks very nice visually and its got a good cast as well

Maybe the Academy can rectify the mistake made in 1998 when they gave Paltrow Best Actress over Blanchett....Elizabeth was the film that opened my eyes to the lovely Aussie, and I never even heard of this followup project. It helps that Shekhar Kapur is once again directing it, I suppose.

Looking pretty good...I gotta admit, I pumped myself up a little for this trailer after reading the front page JoBlo article about it so I felt a little underwhelmed by the trailer but the movie itself is looking great.

Also, I really dug Elizabeth and I agree, Blanchett should've won that year.

And the Best Actress of the Oscars '08 goes to... Blanchette.

Enjoyed ELIZABETH and Cate is my favorite actress, so I will definitely check this out.

Trailer's gone though, so I couldn't see it :(

HBO and Helen Mirren did an excellent job in the Elizabeth mini-series that depicts the same period of "The Golden Age".

That being said this bigger budget take definitely brings that period to a higher epic scale the mini-series couldn't. I'm definitely sold, especially after that pan of the massive Spanish Armada!

Btw, was anyone else reminded of Tilda Swinton in Orlando when they saw that shot of Blanchett in that suit of arms?

Yep.

On the trailer as a whole... wow. I really like Elizabeth (dragged several friends to it at the cinema) and this looks like an absolutely worthy follow up. Blanchett's speech about being able to command the winds should seal an Oscar nom (I doubt she'll win though, too soon after The Aviator). If there's any complaint it's that Shekhar Kapur still appears to be in love with shooting down from the ceiling (seriously, most of the first 10 minutes of Elizabeth is shot like that) and while this has always been on my 'to see' list i've now become very excited about it.

Though it's been awhile since I've seen it, I found Elizabeth to be well made but a little dry.

This however looks excellent. It looks pretty epic, which I love.

Thanks for the link, Solid Snake.

This looks even better than I imagined. Blanchett is so talented.

Funny you mentioned that -- the glimpses I saw of Cate from Elizabeth (via trailers and TV clip) all those years ago made me think that it was indeed Swinton who was playing the role. I had no idea who Cate Blanchett was back in '98.

Just now got around to seeing the trailer. Great trailer. I've never seen Elizabeth but will have to before I check this one out. I don't think it's necessary to watch the first, but you know, I like to be thorough. :D

That new trailer gave me the chills.

I love Cate's voice.
