Russia's history for the past 100 years has been one of the most fucked social experiments ever conceived. He may not have been perfect, but when compared to the rest Yeltsin is a saint.

One thing for sure - Gorbachev must keep his fucking mouth shut. We can make a very long list of his "tragic mistakes" and idiocy. Or I just have to be thankful to Mishka that he did not become a second-hand Stalin?

Yeltsin was a seriously flawed leader who was too involved in political intrigue to devote enough attention to the day-to-day business of running the country. Nonetheless, he was a dynamic and intriguing figure, and I'm sure that's how he'd love to be remembered. Drink up.
Despite the dude's lack of political tact, he did steer the country away from further disaster. It's just a shame that like Soviet communism, democracy came with violence...not to mention attacking your own parliament...what the hell was up with that?!? lol :D

I was in Moscow in the middle of September, 1993, and three weeks later that happened.
Mostly because the "shocking therapy" in the Russian economical reforms did not quite work. VP was named the President; so Boris was impeached by the same parliament. You got to see those comrades and listened to their tirades to fully understand how pro-communist and ultra-nationalist the parliament was. Yeltsin used a totalitarian solution to the problem mostly created by pro-totalitarian opposition. Only in Russia...

It's disturbing the way some Russians have been murdered recently by men who were "ex" KGB agents. Also, the way Russia seems to be in with some real evil dictators. They should be watched very carefully, they are no friends of ours even though we may have hoped for a while- they are dangerous enemies.
