I guess with the news that they are sending out a casting call for this; its official and it deserves a thread.
No director attached; who would you like to see?
Personally, Id love to see Tony Scott direct this with his gritty style for a brooding Logan. Think Logan in Man On Fire.

Wolverine is definitely one of the coolest comic book characters ever (if not the) and is most worthy of his own movie. This guy put Hugh Jackman on the map and I'm glad that he continues to want to play the character, even though it might typecast him. I'm excited about the possibilities for this flick.

ANYONE NEXT TO BRET RATNER!!!
For some reason yesterday while I was watching the trailer for Live Free or Die Hard I thought Len Wiseman could maybe be a good choice for Wolverine, just because it seems really realistic (shooting DH4 for Fox in Vancouver), I would love to Singer return but slim chance of that happening, If I could have a dream director take on this project I would have to say David Fincher.

Which part of DH4 seems realistic to you? The car doing barrel rolls through the air or McClane jumping off that jet? :p

If this film gets a competent director and a hard-R, I'll be over-fucking-whelmed with excitement.
Brett Rattner and a PG13? I'll be about as interested in seeing this film as Tarantino is coming up with his own material.

When they announced this project three years ago I was mainly excited because it might mean we would get a seperate X-Men movie without Wolverine taking up the entire spotlight. Sadly, that's now probably a non-possibility. Let me just say this: PLEASE let them finally bring back Sabertooth for this flick. I'm sorry, but asking us to believe that he was killed by a piddling fall off of the Statue of Liberty is horseshit, that guy falls farther than that to get out of bed in the morning.

I agree. He should definitely be a big part of the story - especially if it deals in the Weapon program. I wouldn't mind to see Tyler Mane back as long as he's taken a few more acting lessons since X-Men.

Unless Hugh Jackman has unprecedented creative control, I seriously doubt we'll get a hard-R, and even then, I'm not sure he has the cajones to follow through with such a risky venture.

It'll be PG-13 without question but that's fine with me. Wolverine carving up those mansion intruders and those mutants in the forest proves that PG-13 can work for Logan.
I guess I'm in the minority but I don't think Ratner would do a bad job. He shot incredible action sequences on X3 even though he had limited time to adapt and shoot the film. I also read a script treatment for the Wolverine movie and if they use any of what I read, it'll be phenomenal. As long as Jackman and the script stay in place, Wolverine will kick ass.

I agree, I dont see how people can place blame on Ratner for X3, he came on so late. Blame the screenwriter if you want to blame someone. He would do fine directing Wolverine.

Neither, really. I wouldn't mind something along the lines of him continuing to search for clues to his past, but an origin story is a bit much. That's part of the excitement and coolness of the character: the fact that he doesn't know a lot about who he is.

That doesn't necessarily entail an origin story. There's no telling how long he was wandering around before he met up with Rogue.

I think the only way to go about this is to follow the trend of the comics and make this about the Weapon X program.
Leave his origins a mystery. Flash back to Japan or Vietnam if need be, but Wolvie needs mystery. I hated the fact they finally did the Origin comics on him.
Weap X program, Sabertooth being the big bad. Ermm.... Kind of a Universal Soldier in the X-Men world movie I guess...

Okay, but that's hardly an origin story. When I hear origin story, I think Logan being recruited into the Weapon X program, and his life before that happened. Which I definetely do NOT want to see.

To each his own, but only a small portion of that looked good. The whole diving off the balcony bit looked absolutely terrible. The only shot I really liked of that was Wolvie stabbing the dude in the chest and screaming in his face. Now THAT was Wolverine.

Me neither. The search for his past would be a lot more interesting than actually going through it with him, I think. They could have him going up against those who were with Colonel Stryker at the time and maybe some who don't want him to remember anything (or some crap like that :D). Throw some mutants his way to try to stop him.

I'd like to see Bryan Singer or Brett Ratner direct it preferably. Those two guys have the most experience and I think could give the most guaranteed bang for the buck. Anything else your gambling with. Since I doubt Singer will do it, that leaves Brett which I'm perfectly fine with.

I just don't like Brett Ratner that much; he doesn't bring anything unique to his directing style - and that was obvious in the third X-Men movie. I'd be fine with somebody new; give Wolverine a way to distance itself from the X-men movies a little. (How about Matthew Vaughn?)

Or it could end up a low rent one shot, like Elektra.
However, I do think they'll take it more seriously than that movie, but I can't imagine them spending full on X-Men level cash... and they probably shouldn't.
Elektra aside, I'd like to see Rob Bowman direct this. I love The X Files movie and Reign of Fire. The guy has a great style that's really dark.

Weapon X is a proponent. really really liked it up to the ending, which was a little far fetched.

That actually never occurred to me but it is quite possible that they wanted to keep a spare rebel character in case Jackman didnt want to reprise the role in future films.

This is a very interesting observation considering Wolvie's first appearance in the comics was fighting Hulk. He was hired by the Canadian government to take out Hulk while he was fighting Wendigo.
Extra tidbit: Wolvie's creators intended him to be a character for people to hate.

Why? Fox wasnt at fault for X3. Come on, they gave us X1 and X2 which were both great, especially X2. That is two for 3, enough to give them the benefit of doubt.
Plus Gavin Hood > Brett Ratner, and Ratner was the one responsible for the X3 mess not the fact the movie was made at Fox. So I really dont see why X3 should have any impact on Wolverine in terms of our expectations.

A PG-13 rating puts such a handicap on what they can have Wolverine do, it would be silly to limit the character that much.

But Hollywood should notice the great shift thats coming along, and by this I mean rated R films are making dough. 300 is a perfect example, and I don't care if this is only meant to bring in a younger fan base it's not in Wolverine's character to be a kid friendly superhero. I mean he's not Superman or Spider-Man.

Question: As a percentage, what are the chances of this film being rated R?
What im hoping for, and think its VERY possible, is that we get an R rated cut on DVD like we did DIE HARD 4.

It's not that I'm against R rated movies, because quite frankly I to would love to see this movie rated R. It's just that I want to be able to get INTO the movie when it comes into theaters. I'm pshyced for this movie to come out, but if I can't see it in theaters it'd seem a bit of a waste. I'm only 15 and I don't pass for an 18 y.o. I tried and failed already : /

The only thing that's really holding back my excitement for this movie, is Liev Schreiber. Don't get me wrong he's a damn good actor. But as Sabretooth? Really?! This is just as bad as Vinnie Jones playing Juggernaut.
Why the fuck didnt they just recast Tyler Mane? I thought he was great in the role, in terms of his look and size. And he's a fairly decent actor to boot.
Ryan Reynolds is absolutely perfect for Deadpool, though. There isn't another actor out there that could do the character justice.

He could have not contracted the cancer/ Weapon-X operation/upgrade that turned him into Deadpool as of yet.
He was already a killer before he got the super healing factor/burnt look we all know and love.
Wolverine has bone claws for part of the movie, so its only natural that Deadppol hasnt got his upgrade as of yet either. Hell, it may happen in the movie.

As for questions about Wolverine and his violence, Jakcman is going to be going i think as far as he can with the rating, im guessing just very minimal blood if any. And yeah, the x-men origins ontop of wolverine still looks crap, but what are ya gonna do. The film itself by that, look very awesome. It's just behind Watchmen for my most anticipated now. Wow.

I agree. As cool as he is from those few shots of him we see, the only reason he's been put in this is to make some fans happy because he was cut from the X-men movies. I say some fans because, he has nothing to do with Wolverine at this time in their life's and has nothing to do with Weapon X. This should be about Wolverine and not take to much time away with him. As cool as the trailer is...This should be Wolverines story, i don't want another Last stand with too many character's. Please Hugh Jackman, remember that! okay.. after watching this trailer like a hundred times, why do i have a feeling that this movie is gonna kinda suck..?
hehehh... i don't see any of the mutants together and it feels like their role in the movie is nothing but a mere cameo. I know this is about wolverine and that this is just a trailer composed of footages they shot so far, but when i see the scenes of Deadpool and Gambit, i get a vague reminiscence of a commercal for Smallville. the teaser they showed years ago fro x2 had more oomph than this one...
i dunno.. after watching the best comic cross over, TDK, and the last installment for X-Men X3, my hopes for X-Men Origins Wolverine is kinda dimm. or... perhaps this is my subconcious speaking of not to get my hopes high for a movie that'll eventully suck. i'm psyched really, but overall, i ain't feeing it.

JJ “Loco” Perry? Are you sure he’s even on this project? And isn’t he more a stunt man then a fight choreographer? I’m fairly sure Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are the action coordinators on this one. Chad’s got some decent credits to his name but David’s work history doesn’t impress me too much. I am concerned about the fight scenes on this one just based on who they have working on it, what has been done on the X films and what in the script. My fingers are crossed but I have my doubts.

yeah i know about that, how they're all part of the weapon x project. my only problem is... will they do it justice? i don't exactly see any of the mutants together as a group. when i looked closer at the shot after Stryker says something along the lines of, "i created a team..." or whatever, they show Deadpool surrounded by a bunch of soldiers. when they show the blob and the others, they're all individual scenes in different locations like the Blog in a boxing ring and Deadpool in some arena place. it's as if they don't have much of a role other than cameo, very similar to how Wanted was shot. replace the butcher with the Blob, replace the repairman with Deadpool, and replace the gunsmith with Agent Zero and... wow i just realized... replace fox with Silverfox, sloan with Stryker, and cross with Sabretooth, and dude.. it's fucking WANTED.
either way... i'm fucking hyped to see it. it's unfortunate though, Ryan Reynold's costume design of Hannibal King in Blade II looked way cooler than Deadpool's little microsecond of a shot in the trailer. someone mentioned it earlier or in some other thread but it's true, it's just Reynold's in a red shirt. :-/

i think the other movie that i saw the actor that plays Gambit was in the movie the Covenant. i don't know much about his acting his skills, but he does look the part. it's funny though because these "nobody" actors that star in the x-men series end up doing fairly well in hollywood. i mean, X1 was a platform for these nobody actors and now they're huge. people were skeptical of hugh jackman, a showtune singing broadway staged actor playing wolverine and voila, he proved them wrong.
were you trying to be sarcastic or something because it's funny how you bring up Ryan Reynolds' portrayal of Hannibal King in Blade III. i think that "stupid smart-mouth sarcastic joking" stuff that you say was what ruined Blade III is what i believe what Deadpool's about. i mean, he is the merc-with-the-mouth and well... sounds like a Ryan Reynolds to me, except for the merc part :-P.
i think the casting's great. i just can't believe they took one of those Tremor Brothers from Smokin' Aces and turned him into the blob. he could have easily been cast to play someone who fits his physique and overall look.. he could've even made a Gambit. i can't wait for this movie...

Hey....I'm sure everyone could do without the sass, mister.
The point that they were trying to make is that Deadpool's nickname is the "Merc with a mouth" because he's always wisecracking, so much so that he even breaks the fourth wall sometimes. Ryan Reynolds, on top of being in great shape and having experience with action films, is perfect for the role because he's a great comedic actor who's distinctive voice can carry out even under a mask....

You know who else was a nobody before the X-Men movie franchise? Hugh Jackman.
Ever think it might be best to give the role to a lesser-known actor? It'll give more focus on the character and not on the guy playing him. It worked for Spider-Man.
And Ryan Reynolds IS Deadpool. I can't think of anyone better to play him.

Deadpool's uniform at the moment while looks shit, it is before the whole character became as he is, and it hint's enough at it, so i think it's okay. They will set him up and then we'll see his actual duds. Should be done like that anyways. I think he has the best chance of stealing the show out of all the characters (if any come close to Wolve, that is), but he could also be annoying aswel. Fingers crossed though.

If were going to go like the comics, Deadpool would have a costume similar to the one that's the thrid panel in that pic. But i do think that if we do seem him in his duds it will be the more common red/black one. But then i'm thinking seeing as wolverine aint exactly going to have his costumes from the comics (never were in the x series), im thinking deadpool may just have the face part like his comic character (perhaps balaclava sort of thing or something like Rorshach), with the rest being similar enough, but keeping it in line with the rest of the movie and x-series. And i'll shut up about deadpool now cuz the film's clearly called Wolverine. lol.

I think he did a good job with the action on Blade 3 and while that movie sucked it wasnt because of him, in fact I think he saved most of it with his humor. And he was great with the drama in School Of Life, that movie was very touching, so yeah, I think he can do other roles quite well.

I just read via joblo's front page that Fox wants to make Wolverine more family friendly. While i totally see their point, Wolverine is not family friendly. As a character he aint, his story/backstory aint. After the awesomeness of that trailer, you'd think that the great fanfare it's had they would have kept it liek that. Not to mention TDK being dark and highly succesfull, and watchmen looking to do the same.
This is one of the case's where the studio needs to drop their case and let the movie do what it should. Not for kids, bub.

I don't know why the studio hired Gavin Hood in the first place if they were going for a light, family type movie. That's not exactly what he's known for making. Didn't they learn from the disappointing box office of FF2 that watering down a comic book to family levels isn't a good thing? X-Men already has a built in fanbase, they can make this thing as dark as a PG-13 rating will allow and it will still make over $150 million at the very least.

This movie has so much potential to be good not great. I am a comic fan especially the X-Men. Wolvie is my favorite and a movie only on him would have been fantastic if done right. A dark gritty blood lusting wolverine movie would be awesome. But regardless of Warner Brothers stepping in everyone know this movie was going to be cheesy as hell. They should have skipped this movie and made a new X-men flick. Not necessarily a part 4 but revamped stories just like the comics do it. They just start and new story line and go from there. An X-men Adventure would be the best. Based off the cartoon series leading to Apocalypse, who I was hopping that he would be in the first three.

Oh ya Ryan Reynolds is great.. Seriously 2 guys a girl & a Pizza place..
and to all those people who is wondering who DP is... here's a hint Goto the comic book store. (new Deadpool comic comic Sept 1)
As for Deadpool yes RR we'll be f'n awesome as film. The 1 part doesn't look like Good old Wade. But if you look 2 the left @ the 2min mark on the trailer it looks like Deadpool all cancered up & in suit. So i wonder if the scene shown before is a flashback.

Right on. That "family friendly" stuff is pure BS or pure misinterpretation. TDK could be considered family friendly because families have paid to see it and there's even a toy line for it but the film itself is as dark as it should be. Wolverine will be the same way. If you've seen the comic con footage, you already know this is true. The footage starts with our "hero" getting cut down by a firing squad and ends with him threatening to cut Sabretooth's G-damn head off. Family revenue? Maybe but it's definitely not kiddie content.

If Fox fucks this up, and makes them edit it to be a "family film" , it will be dumb as hell. We have seen recently that darker films are better, and win at the box office. So fox.. shut the fuck up and let the guy make his film!

I sure hope Wolverine comes out as dark and bleak as I had hoped. Fox should be ripped of their ownership of the X-MEN franchise (could this really happen?) before they REALLY do the heavy-hitting on it. I mean, just look at what's left of the Alien and Predator franchises now that Fox has raped them into the ground with the AVP films.

Anyway we should hopefully be getting more media for this soon as it has wrapped shooting. I cant believe we havent caught a glimpse of Deadpool yet...
oh please! Fox was at fault from the beginning for not renewing Singer contract unlike what Sony did with Raimi who sign him for a 2 picture deal but after SP2 B.O. success they got on the horn and sign him up for SP3 which was shit.
Another reason why X3 was a mess in the first place because after Singer bolted for WB to do Superman after WB couldnt get Superman off the ground with Ratner-they rush butt the movie to beat Singer Superman!!!!!!
so you see thats why some people if not everyone is kind of weary bout this one including me..after finding out its actually from Fox and not Marvel..shit look what Marvel did with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk(reboot) when they actually produced it and financed it not some lam-o PTB @ Fox or WB. Ok let me get this straight. What you're saying is that the director, Nolan, is responsible for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight not the studio, WB. And that the director, Ratner, is not responsible for X-Men 3 but the studio, Fox, is?
So when the movie is good it's the director's doing and when the movie sucks its the studio's doing?
I guess it was all Singer's doing that X1 and X2 were good, Fox had nothing to do with it right? And then Fox was responsible for X3 because it sucked?
That is bullshit.
I am tired of this constant studio bashing. Yes they are in it for the money, but they have given us the goods on X1 and X2 (in regards to this series), so I will give them the benefit of the doubt on Wolverine.
Although, I do here they are fucking with the cut on Wolverine trying to make it less dark, and fuck them for that. Fuck them in their big fat wallets.

Nolan saw both Batman films through from the beginning. He co-wrote and produced for both of them. Ratner had nothing to do with the writing process or the production side of X-men 3. Hell, the fuckin' film was already in pre-production when he was brought on board. Yes, Fox is responsible for its shittiness of X-3, they've ruined many films with great potential, they've canceled many great TV shows, and they're currently trying to stop Watchmen from being released as well.

Couldnt have said it better.
Ratner really did a better job then i thought he would do with X3 considering how rushed/fucked that entire production was. The scene with Prof. X in Jeans house is one of the best in the enitre trilogy.
X3 could have been the best in the series rather then the least. All that just because they wanted to beat Superman Returns out the gate due to a pissing match with Singer.
While not really a great movie, it holds up a hell of alot better then Spider-man 3 does.
I dont think Warner will be that stupid and rush a product of poor quality out the gate. The Batman series has already been blasted once before, i dont think they will fall of the same mistake twice.
..i hope.
PS- I hope FOX at least has the balls to give us a Wolverine R rated cut on DVD/Blu-ray. Id settle for that.

Fuck Fox.
A-MEN! Of all the film studios, Fox is without a doubt the worst. While other companies (save for Pixar) frequently make mistakes, Fox has perfected the art of ruining everything it touches. Here's but a short list of their misdeeds:
-shafting Ridley Scott on Kingdom of Heaven (thankfully, we still got a great directors cut)
-chincing out on Bryan Singer when he wanted to use Sentinels in X3, driving him off and handing the helm over to Brett Ratner
-meddling with David Fincher's work on Alien3 (I've never seen it, for I wish to have the work of Scott and Cameron remain unsullied)
-cancelling Arrested Development
-greenlighting those horrendous spoof "Movies"
-their "news" network (the less I say here, the better)
-trying to prevent WATCHMEN from reaching the screen (now they're just being evil)
The only plus Fox has is James Cameron, and I bet even he can't stand them. Fox needs to learn how not mess with success. Look at what happened to Warner Bros when they meddled excessively with their superhero franchise (the wreckage of Superman III and IV, as well as the Schumacher fiascos still haunts people's minds).
BTW, I find it ironic that Richard Donner came in to avert a full-fledged confrontation. Not sure how many here know this, but when he was filming Superman back in the late 70s, he had to put up with some really incompetent and nepotistic producers who ended up firing him halfway through the filming of Superman 2 (which was being done cuncurrently w/ Superman '78).

Fox did not run the pilot first. They ran the series out-of-order and screwed up any chance for garnering a mass fan base when it started by NOT introducing the characters nor explaining why and what made them outlaws.

I think off-beat and unexpected choices are the best way to go for genre films some of the time. As mentioned above, who would have thought the same guy who made "Elf" could make "Iron Man"? Who thought the director of "The Duelists" could have made "Alien"? Why would someone think the guy that did "The Usual Suspects" could bring about "X-Men"? Then again, some offbeat choices just don't work. Jean-Pierre Jeunet didn't exactly work wonders with "Alien: Resurrection". Kenneth Branagh also faced some harsh criticism over his version of "Frankenstein" (which is mostly undeserved in my opinion).

IEST.net has posted an interview they had with Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman to discuss upcoming 20th Century Fox projects, including Wolverine. When asked about Deadpool he had the following to say:
IESB: So, we get teased in the Wolverine trailer with Deadpool, he's a fan favorite, another second tier Iron Man-like character, and Ryan Reynolds has been dying to play this guy for years and I think that's why he even did the cameo because he wants a stand alone film. Any movement there?
TR: Yes and no, I mean, Deadpool is an integral part of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we are in the process now, of doing all the CG work to create that character at an A +++ level, that's being done in truly as state of the art fashion as possible...
IESB: Scarring and all?
TR: It will be very rewarding for the fans, let's put it that way. It's a high level endeavor because he figures importantly in the movie, so whether he'll spin off into his own movie, if that's what you're asking, I don't know the answer. We will have to see.
So far little had been said about Deadpool's appearance or role in the movie, and this interview hints that he does have a fairly significant role and that his appearance will be closer to the comics than previously thought.

He's a monster. Look at those arms! He's literally the pages of the the comics come to life, only a foot taller.

well that and they want to stay away from the R rated cause that would mean less $$ if its an PG-13 then its kachin for them. they obviously aiming for a more broader audience that plus Tim Roth is-well-a d **k plain and simple. althought i do agree that Jackman looks more pump up then X3

I am really surprised that this movie so far is getting better and better every time I hear something about it. Only thing that I am worried about is if the trailer is shit. Then my hopes will be back where they started at.

The trailer is the only reason I'm going to see The Day The Earth Stood Still on Friday. Sounds promising if this guy can be believed...
I'm finally excited about the Wolverine movie. Sorry- the trailer isn't out yet but the vid guys were mastering it today so I maaay have snuck a look. It looks rather epic - not a cheap spin-off that I was anticipating. The tone is QUITE serious and there is gratuitous slow-motion everywhere. Gambit also looks MUCH better in action than the first pic suggested (the "charge effect" is a little hokey though, but I didn't get the time to really look at it). Characters like The Blob and all of (what I assume to be) Alpha Flight look as realistic as they could be- no crazy costumes or stupid X-Men 3 shit. In fact this movie looks to kick the shit out of X-men 3 and drag it through broken glass. Hopefully....

Alpha Flight? Wha? I think he must be confusing characters.

Maybe. Or there could actually be an appearance from Alpha Flight in the film....

Everytime he portrays Wolverine, he changes his look in regards to his build. Orginal X-Men he was pretty cut, since he was cast late he didn't have much time to change, X2 he was bigger and still cut, X3 i think he was his bulkiest, and now this movie he is in just insane shape. I think it is great that he does push ups before scenes to get his veins popping out. You got to give him credit he is trying to luck like a comic book character with his body.

This looks pretty sweet. I like the idea of Hood directing and Jackman having a big say in the movie (considering how passionate he is for the character).
