Oh, this sounds like it's going to be GREAT. A return to old Coens? Blood Simple-esque? I'm so there.

I may be in the minority, but I had no idea this was a book, I'm def gonna go check it out, then see how it compares with the flick.

Yeah I don't know what was going on with ladykillers. Everything they've ever done was amazing and then they made that.

Thanks for making my day, Digifruitella!
I love the Coen's and they make these movies with hype that's just smothered by movies like Spiderman, and so-forth. It's really great to see some strong supporters for films like this, because well, I just like my movies like this and want a chance to build at least a little hype.
As for The Ladykillers, I thought it got a bad wrap. It wasn't anywhere near other films in their canon, but still better than a lot of films out there. (I haven't seen Intolerable Cruelty) There's a lot of cheap & easy gags in the film, but overall I think it works as an old-fashioned slapstick - its biggest problem no doubt is being devoid of much of what we expect from the Coens.
And I hold my bar high for these guys. To me, Barton Fink is the movie that everyone talks about in film school, without ever mentioning Barton Fink.

Bound to go astray eventually... its not like they're QT status and only have five films to their credit. I also thought there were some great scenes in the ladykillers ("Bitch to the waffle hut" scene made me laugh), but haven't rewatched it since seeing it in theaters.

I thought Intolerable Cruelty was considered their low point. I'm planning to see it if given a chance on TV or something. But if you guys hold it above LK, I'd have to add it to Netflix - Catherine Zeta-Jones is a huge selling point for me, but just not enough to risk seeing a Coen movie I don't like. I just cried a little thinking about it.

I thought Intolerable Cruelty was somewhere between ok and pretty good. The story stalls a little bit, but Clooney is really funny and there is some very recognize Coen humor.
I'm with most folks here saying something about The Ladykillers just felt... amiss. It was just too broad. I liked Tom Hanks' performance, but only the last 30 minutes or so is any good.

I'm in the minority that just can't get into Cormac McCarthy. Still, can't wait for this movie.

I'm the complete opposite, I just can't stop reading Cormac McCarthy, I've finished Blood Meridian, The Road and No Country for Old Men and I about to start his border trilogy. Amazing writer.
This is one of my most anticipated and still am so happy about Javier being cast as Chigurgh, he's going to fucking own.
5 videos of No Country (http://www.cannes2007.com/bandes-annonces=76586.html)
looks tight. Javier is all about coolness. Deakins doing good capturing desert. Something serious from Coen's.

From early reviews I've read, this is one of their best films. Man I cannot wait for this.

A return to form for the Coens? Or perhaps even better - new ground?! I'm so excited over this it should be illegal. But from what I've seen from the clips and pics, this looks like a sort of evolution for the Coens. And while I like it when they write their own scrips, this still looks absolutely fantastic and totally peperred with their trademark style. Javier Bardem looks so incredibly badass it's unfair for other badasses. This. Will. Be. AWESOME.
Now all we need is to start seeing some material from PT Anderson's There Will Be Blood and I'll completely melt.

Oh my God, those videos are great. ESPECIALLY the one where Bardem is talking to that guy about flipping the coin. Wow, that is a great scene.

Bardem isn't badass he's just fucking scary in that role, looks like the reviews were right about him being pretty intense

yes this looks alot better then all the pretty horses .my brother was saying that the book is rather dark where the movie is more of a romance.
anyone read no country? i loved it.he has a odd style of writing plus its normally not the kind off books i enjoy.but this was good.so great casting for the parts really great casting.Josh Brolin has the make or break part i think but im sure he will pull it off.
also from what i`ve read so far oscar nods for screenplay and javier bardem ,who i`ve only seen in Collateral but he looks a big boy and it sounds like he`s nailed Chigurh.
