Yeah, this has just been announced. I don't really know how they can keep the story going for a second movie given the awesome ending of the first one, but hell I loved Crank so more of it is fine by me. Crank was probably the most entertaining film of 2006, despite it being a stupid, violent, fun, harsh, and un pc film.

Is this really necessary?
I mean, yeah, Crank was OK, nothing amazing...But a SEQUEL?!?! That (obviously) means that he somehow survived the ending of the last one, which is just too over-the-top for me.
This just seems like a dumb idea.

If the guys want to make their movie, let them make their movie. You can always choose not to see it.
I mean, if you and your buddy got together to make the movie you guys wanted to make, would you care if it was necessary?. For that matter, what exactly constitutes as necessary?
I think it's cool these guys made the movie they wanted to make in Crank, and if they want to follow up, more power to them. Hopefully they'll be able to move on after this one, though.

Crank was a 7/10 fun movie. It is not deserving of a sequel and I honestly don't know how there would be a sequel. There would have to be a pretty shitty plot for there to be a sequel.
BAD IDEA!

I absolutely loved the first CRANK, but i see no way in hell that a sequel could happen unless it follows a different character.
Really, if they fick up the ending to the first one im going to be pissed. The way the main character went "all or nothing" at the end was awesome.

I saw CRANK yesterday and it was perhaps the finest moment in the history of American cinema.

I thought Crank was a decent, entertaining way to kill time, but I don't think a sequel is necessary. Jason Statham, who I'm a big fan of, deserves better action vehicles.

Everyone complains that there can't be a sequel because he's "dead", but he blinked. Another argument is that he couldn't have survived that fall. It's supposed to be a straight up silly and ridiculous, and fun movie. Nothing serious at all. I'd say do a sequel. I had an awesome time when I saw Crank in theatres.

SPOILERS FOR CRANK
I don't think Crank exactly warranted a sequel; the ending was cool, the movie didn't do THAT well at the box office, and there weren't that many people who LOVED it to demand a sequel. Plus, they'll have to find somebody as cool as Jason Statham to lead the movie since I don't think he'll be around for the second. He'd better not be anyway after the ending, cuz I don't think I'd buy any explanation for his survival.

well you never know they might bring him back
originally they were going to bring Jamie Kennedy back for scream 3 the story being that his family wisked him away to safety and he recovered but they changed their minds thinking it would be to over top and audiences wouldn't buy it IMO i would love a crank sequel if it statham and Smart in it

Being silly and ridiculous is one thing but if they actually have Stathom survive the fall at the end of Crank, then that crosses the line and is just plain insulting. That's just WAY too absurd and over the top, even for a movie like Crank. Too have him be THAT invincible would make the first one seem pointless and moot and it completely fucks up the perfect way to end the movie. I mean, I thought Crank ended PERFECTLY. But if he survived then it totally screws all that up. It might actually anger me.
Seriously, if they have Stathom survive then I'm just going to ignore this movie and pretend that it doesn't exist because it will ruin one of my favorite action movies of recent years!

I can't believe there is actually a sequel to Half Past Dead.
And why the hell isn't Steven Seagal in it? All of his movies have straight to dvd lately anyway.

Crank 2? Dumb idea. I like silly, campy movies like Snakes On A Plane, but Crank was just all out stupid. Original it was not, since they went crazy in the editing room a la Domino, another crapfest. Statham does deserve better.

SPOILERS FOR CRANK (although people seem to have already spoiled the ending
I heard a theory from some dude that Chelios died of the poison during the fall, but that hitting the ground/car jumpstarted him back to life!
Ridiculous... but a fun notion anyway.

at least crank was entertaining

Crank was everything that Snakes On A Plane wanted to be, but wasn't.
SOAP was boring, generic, predictable and tame. Crank was inventive, hugely entertaining, provocative, funny as fuck, action-packed and TOTAL 100% ANARCHY. It was Road Runner meets Grand Theft Auto with balls of steel.
And contrary to what many seem to think, the Crank was smart. It's outrageous, unbelievable and ridicilous - intentionally so. But it's not stupid.

I remember saying something to that effect on seeing CRANK.
SNAKES really turned out to be pretty dull to me, and CRANK was the best _shut up and watch_ type movie id seen since Freddy vrs Jason.

Call me crazy, but if I wanted someone dead, I'd shoot them. I wouldn't waste time injecting them with something and videotape myself while doing it. Sure, it's supposed to be a balls out action movie, but it's sillier than it needed to be. Just sayin'.
I agree with what people have said earlier in the thread. The sequel will be a straight to DVD release.

They bad guy probably just wanted the hero to suffer: To know that he is going to die in an hour. A bullet in the head takes away the suffering.
Trying to assasinate someone by putting snakes on a plane is even more stupid, IMHO, if we think it in real world terms. Arguably the most random and luck-dependent assasination method ever.
But anyway: The whole point of Crank is to be as over the top as possible. With every scene the filmmakers were trying to do something even more bizarre and outrageous than what we saw in the previous scene. And the scenes were mostly played for laughs, the film is soaked in black humor. Like I said, it's Road Runner Meets Grand Theft Auto.

I was a huge fan of Crank, but this sounds like a horrid idea. The last blink and sound of the heartbeat at the end was supposed to solidify just that, the end. He has been on a lifeline the entire film, always managing to keep his heartbeat going no matter what, and after the mighty fall, we see him blink and hear the last heartbeat simple because that signifies that the end has finally come, his time is up. Nothing more. If he is supposed to survive because the movie was intentionally unrealistic or something, then he could have just rolled on the street in agony after he hit the pavement, much like the way someone who is thrown out of a car does.
That's a stupid conclusion to arrive to.

I agree that Crank is WAY better than Snakes. Infact, when I wrote a little review for it I said, Fuck Snakes on a Plane! Crank was the guilty pleasure movie of 2006!
For the type of movie it was, it was just about perfect.
