System of a Down, Mastodon, Opeth, and Iron Maiden are the four tiers of metal for me. They always keep it fresh and continuously offer up awesome albums (even if Maiden has offered up a few missteps in their catalog, their other albums more than make up for it).

For favorites as of right now I'd say Cryptopsy for me. Their first two albums with Lord Worm are freaking amazing, and at the time were some of the heaviest stuff ever yet extremely catchy.

no i meant no maiden as in no maiden are the best, i love them, but on second thought i think my faves are boris and dillinger escape program, but i'd say boris are my fave at the moment

as for me.. my all time favorite band is METALLICA.. so they rank above all in every catagory! If you ask me who my favorite rap artists is.. i'd say Metallica... COuntry.. MEtallica... you get the point!

Metal has so many sub-genres its hard to say "Bst Metal Band"

well i never knew i got you into boris, by the way i strongly recomend there most recent album rainbow its lovely, and after reading that post about how you find out about new music, i was in the record shop and looking at bordoms cds, and picked up pink, never having heard it and saw that it was a cd by a japanese metal band called boris with a pink cover I could not resist so as blind buys go it was a lucky dip into the darkside

I was listening to some Dillinger Escape Plan today and I've come to the realization that they own just about anyone out there. They are incredibly intense.

You have to put those first and then start the list. It's kinda like how everyone considers Jim Brown by far the best running back ever - so much so that it's no debate he's number one. The list starts with number two.

Then it would have to be something like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc.

As for favorite band, well, that's different.

KMFDM, Pig, Iced Earth, Kamelot, Nightwish... it's always changing.

It's actually pretty good. I hated their EP that came out. I thought it was just some guys who heard a Suffocation album try to make a death metal album but add in some terrible "pig squeal" vocals and some cheesy breakdowns. Well, they cut out the squealing vocals and their are no breakdowns to be found here. It's just some solid technical death metal. Blows away the new Dying Fetus, but doesn't come close to the new Deicide or Gorod's latest album in terms of newer Technical Death.
