This wouldn't have bothered me so much if what Huckabee had said wasn't just so historically inaccurate. This is a presidential candidate we're talking about here, and here he is saying shit that is just totally untrue. Whether you agree with Carter's comments or not, you better do your history before you make up shit about "unspoken agreements" that don't exist to begin with. Hell....Teddy Roosevelt was so outspoken against Taft he ran against him himself!
And look what Ford had to say about his fellow officeholders:
"I think Jimmy Carter would be very close to Warren G. Harding. I feel very strongly that Jimmy Carter was a disaster, particularly domestically and economically. I have said more than once that he was certainly the poorest president in my lifetime." -Gerald Ford on Jimmy Carter
"Probably the least well-informed on the details of running the government of any president I knew." -Gerald Ford on Ronald Reagan
"You could never give Clinton a high mark on integrity." -Gerald Ford on Bill Clinton
"Rumsfeld and Cheney and the president made a big mistake in justifying going into the war in Iraq." -Gerald Ford on George W. Bush
We need our next president to be someone who actually studied his history lessons. That's all.

I think CArter has been an ass but I also think Ford has acted like an ass too. We have enough critics in our country without these guys having to add theirs too. Let them keep their mouths shut and get along for the sake of the country after they leave office. CArter used to be known as the best ex-president but he has mangaed to muck that up too.

I think this bashing Bush thing has been old for way too long. Move on, he will be gone soon, and hopefully most of Congress. I had high hopes for new leadership, but just like the Repubs before them, the Dems are just as much if not more in the hands of big business.
This country is a complete joke right now, and I hate saying I am an American. Whatever happened to being able to going to work an earning a decent wage? Wait big business stepped in and said they needed more money. What happened to keeping gas prices low? Wait big business said they won't build more refineries because of the fear they won't recoup the money if new energy sources come about. So us middle Americans are supposed to suffer while the rich can keep getting bigger pockets?
Bush needs to go along with all of Congress. Instead of voting for people that never had to work a day in their lives, maybe it is time to vote for people who had to work where they are right now.

You are not addressing the biggest issue affecting our nation (next to terrorism)- the immigration bill that all the congress is trying to pass right now (Bush too). This is going to gut our country. Giving citizenship to millions of people over the next years is going to hurt employment for all and what about paying for schools, health care, retirement, welfare etc. Who is going to pay for the huge influx of all these people? It defies reason that illegal aliens are not getting deported. People who have businesses are getting underbid by competitiors who hire illegal aliens and they are losing jobs. The people who employ illegals do not have to pay worker's comp, and all the other expenses that go along with having employees. Also there is the little issue of identity theft that is going on right now. Who better to be in need of a new identity than an illegal immigrant. Its very nuts right now.

You are forgetting Lynn that the Republicans didn't want to deal with the issue and kept putting it aside. They knew if they lost control of Congress than let the Dems handle it, it will look bad on them, and people will think the same reasons to put them back in office.
The fact is how do you find all the people that are illegal and send them back? It would become racial profiling and lawsuits will come out of it.
Like I said in my previous post, big business wants them here, and they will stay somehow. I remember watching one of the people in charge of California's Orange fields, he was asked about deporting illegals, and said in the simplest words that if we deport them prices would go up to $1 or more for one orange, apple, or any fruit. Then you have the problem of who will do their work? We have become a country were we believe we must be managers and not do the labor work.
I honestly don't know how this could be fixed because of how out of control things are now. The blame can be put on both sides, Dems and Repubs.

If people are here illegally they should be sent back. By saying oh there are too many, we are saying that everyone can come! Come on in cause we don't know what to do! And why stop at MExico? People from all over the world can come in and then we will cease to be a country at all. No country inthe world would tolerate what is going on in our country. And if we have to pay more for fruit it will still be less than paying for education and health care for millions of people who do not pay taxes. Millions who are here illegally. And when their health care costs causes you to not access to healthcare then how will you feel about it? And when the millions that come take up all the jobs and you can't find one, how will you feel about it?

I agree, but how do you find those who are here illegally without racial profiling? It isn't just Mexicans, it can be any race, but many people will call up and say their neighbor is illegal. It isn't a simple thing at all.
We have a system in place and nobody follows the law. The message is clear to the working men and women Americans, "You are screwed!"
It isn't just big business, but many people will hire illegals so they can get out of paying taxes. Many people will hire illegals to clean their house, mow their lawns, or remodel their homes.
If you go to Mexico illegally, you get no government help, come to America illegally, you will get more government help than those who are legal citizens.

I disagree. I'd rather listen to what Ford or Carter has to say than Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, or anyone in the media. People who have actually run the country at one point have a much more credible opinion and it may actually help some sitting presidents. Carter, Bush, and Clinton are very intelligent and well-spoken men, no matter what you think of their presidencies, so yeah I'd take them seriously.
