"We wanted to communicate that Dr. Martens boots are ‘made to last,’ and we discovered that these idolized musicians wore them. Showing them still wearing their Docs in heaven dramatized the boots’ durability perfectly. And, as images, they feel very iconic."

That's sort of tasteless.
Using Dead people for advertising should be a crime.

Yeah, it's pretty fucking crass IMO...can anybody confirm if the others bar Sid did actually wear Docs?
It makes no difference either way really, I'm just curious.

Then I guess they wouldn't mind taking your picture when you die and photoshopping you wearing them.

Okay, I've been enjoying this privately for a couple of days since she reminded me of it, but I have to post Alexi Sayle's brilliant self introduction to the song the always razor sharp Lady Version quotes...
"This is the band Radical Posture, and my name is Alexei Yuri Gagarin Siege of Stalingrad Glorious Five-Year Plan Sputnik Pravda Moscow Dynamo Back Four Balowski. Me Dad was a bit of a Communist, know what I mean?" :D
That doesn't do justice to his impeccable delivery.
The lengthy, absurd list is a staple of his comedy. (Brian Damage Bulowski's hostage demands: "A hundred thousand pounds...a helicopter...a complete set of steak knives, in the presentation box...a cairn terrier called 'Bobby'...a big box of them little rubber things, them little black rubber things that go 'Neep neep neep!', a box o' them...the complete memoirs of Donald Sinden...")

I agree with the whole idea that using dead people's images for commercialism is gross.
What gets me is that not even 15 years ago, Doc Martens used to stand for a lot more than this. It was around Nirvana's time, actually when they seemed to suddenly go mainstream, with ads appearing where you'd expect sketchers ads long before we had sketchers ads.
They are great shoes, don't get me wrong - I've had 3 pairs lasting a total of 18 years, but they have severely been cheapened much more with these ads.
Iconic images don't first appear in ads.
