The Burning, The Beyond, & Scarecrows
Fango has learned that MGM Home Entertainment has a whole batch of horror titles coming on DVD September 11 for the Halloween season, among them two of the year’s most eagerly awaited restorations/special editions. One is the director’s cut of Stuart Gordon’s FROM BEYOND that premiered last year on the high-definition channel Monsters HD (see our previous report here), with a Gordon commentary and other extras to be announced. The other is the uncut version of the 1981 slasher film THE BURNING, an early credit for Miramax’s Harvey and Bob Weinstein as well as actors Jason Alexander, Holly Hunter, Fisher Stevens et al. That movie will be presented in a remastered hi-def widescreen transfer with all of Tom Savini’s gory FX intact, accompanied by commentary by director Tony Maylam and a featurette including a Savini interview and behind-the-scenes footage of his gory handiwork.
Also on the slate are the new RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD disc, with a cast/zombie commentary, that we first told you about here, a no-frills release of William Wesley’s SCARECROWS and many more. Look for more details on this site very soon!

I don't know how long I've been waiting for The Burning but I'm glad it's finally getting an uncut release.

Well I imagine the special addition is going to have more than commentaries.

Fuck, I was hoping it would be Night of the Creeps.
Burning would be interesting since there are quite a few then unknowns (Holly Hunter,Jason Alexander,Fisher Stevens) in it and it's produced by the Weinsteins.
Plus, after seeing that recent makeup feature with Savini on the F13 boxset, the new of a Savini feature here seems nice. Kudos to MGM or Fox since the latter has been the DVD distributor lately.
I'd like to see RotLD as well just because of Thom Matthews. He's the best Tommy Jarvis hands down.

Well Silver Scream Toys are making Night of the Creeps action figures. That's a good sign.

i thought the transfer on the MGM Return of the Living Dead thats out now is pretty damn good. As well as the special features. It's gonna take alot to convince me to double dip it.

Are those last two that were on sci-fi last year worth watching? I know one and two are great..3 really is it's own movie..either way I have regretted selling the original ROTLD but for some reason haven't picked it back up..I'll definitely dip again. BTW the original post should be corrected, your mentioning "the Beyond" got me fired up because I just spent a while tracking down the tin version of this and would be pretty pissed if it was just going to be re released.

Hopefully it will happen since Monster Squad is coming out. Someone (Hint, hint,Lions Gate or MGM. ;) ) needs to get the rights from HBO video.

The transfer was fine to me as well, but the sound changes/edits bugged the living hell out of me. If the new release has the original sound, then I'll buy for sure. If not, no thank you.
The Burning and Scarecrows are a must buy for me, even though I still have yet to see Scarerows.

Think for a minute. The raft scene is arguably the most notorious scene from the film. If you are going to tout the release as the uncut version you have to include the entire scene.

That's good news. I just thought that given The Burning's reputation for violence and gore that MGM/Fox might not have the balls to release it totally, utterley, absolutely, completely, 100% uncut. I thought it was too good to be true. With me MGM/Fox doesn't have a reputation for having balls like this therefore...

When the "The Burning" box cover art becomes available and all of the "Special Features" are confirmed, somebody PLEASE post them here!!
P.S.
I hope they include the original theatrical trailer and some "TV spots"!!!! :(
P.P.S.
The article EVILxxx quoted said we're getting it in widescreen but it didn't say as to whether or not we'd be getting it in anamorphic widescreen. If anyone has any news on this subject please post it here A.S.A.P.. Thanks in advance!!

Wait, can you elaborate. I have the Return of the Living Dead DVD, that was how I first saw the film, and I'm not aware of any sound changes.

I'm finding it a little unnerving that the only two titles that are getting difficult to find on websites to pre-order are Scarecrows and The Burning, and also both those titles no longer have release dates on DVDAf.com, instead both titles now say "Release Delayed". I'm hoping nothing is going on there.

You and I both. I have already waited five years for a release of The Burning and I know others have waited far longer than that. Hopefully all is well and we will get these releases in a fairly timely manner. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Still haven't been able to find them for pre-order, but at least they are both back on DVDAF with the release dates of 9/11, rather than delayed. So thats a step in the right direction.

Now I can finally see The Burning, god knows how long I have been searching through videostores and pawnshops for it, hehe. I hear a shitload of gore was cut from the VHS version though so its good to hear the reliable MGM is releasing the DVD.
MGM should put Ghosthouse out on DVD as well as Night Of The Creeps.

The TSOL song has been replaced with another song
The Tar Man's voice has been re-recorded. However, the original Tar Man voice can be heard briefly during the closing credit sequence.
The line "send more cops" has also been re-recorded
The song "Take a walk" has been removed, now you only hear it for a few seconds with no vocals.
The song "Burn the flames" has also been shortened.
The Tar Man sounded MUCH better to me in the original version.
I hope the new dvd has the original sound, please let it have the original sound.

No "Nothing For You"? Weak. Why would they rerecord the dialogue though? Minor shit but it just doesn't make sense. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

The changes were done at Dan O' Bannon's request. Bad idea.
He has no involvement in the new DVD so maybe we'll get the original soundtrack.
