Another nice surprise! Thank you Fox :D Didn't expect this AT ALL...

Bye bye old crappy non-anamorphic, no extras DVD...

Maybe there's hope for a better version of True Lies, Broken Arrow and The Edge...oh and an anamorphic The Abyss please.

Thanks Fox!

My copy of Abyss is anamorphic. It's the single-disc version of the Special Edition that includes both versions of the movie.
But I agreed, I would like new versions of True Lies and The Edge (one of my favorite movies).

The Abyss has never received an anamorphic DVD in Region 1 - just widescreen. There have been packaging errors on past releases. I know a steelcase book version was just released, but I doubt it received a new transfer. It's just repackaged.

Now, I'll be happy the rest of the day.:D

This will be great. Until recently, the only dvd version available here in Region 4 was a censored ex Region 2 release. About 8 or 9 months ago, it was re-released (without a lot of fanfare) as it was screened in the cinemas way back when, even though both the dvd and cinema release were rated R (restricted to 18 years of age or older). The issue was that the original release and the re-release had the same crappy artwork, so there was no way of knowing what version you were getting, except for some production codes on the disc itself, which you could only see once you had bought it.

I'll get this one, along with the 20th Anniversary Robocop. Hello Amazon....

ps: as an aside, can somebody explain the issue with True Lies. It was a bit camp and soft, but I thought it was ok (and nobody can say anything about Jamie Lee Curtis :) ) - is there a harder, edgier version?

Cheers

This is my favorite Arnold movie even though its probaly the cheesiest. I love that there are like fake army men figures on poles during the explosions. And when he escapes the he survives a freaking rpg shot to the back of truck but the cops die. It will also be nice to see it in widescreen

DVD *is* widescreen, but it'll be nicer with a new anamorphic widescreen transfer (hopefully new) :D
