Wow, I just heard the Violent Femmes today on the radio with the awesome song Gone Daddy Gone. Song was seriously great so I decided to read up on any threads that might have been created for this band and much to my surprise there were none. So I decided to make one myself.

Admittedly I have only heard three of their songs myself. Blister in the Sun, Add it Up, and Gone Daddy Gone which I have just heard today but they seem like a pretty remarkable band. Kind of an experimental alternative band from the 80s slightly reminiscent to the Pixies but in a different way.

So has anyone else listened to them? Care to discuss or offer any listening recommendations?

Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Kick ass bit of déjà vu. Cool college band from 83. Pick up thier first and you won't be disapointed with any track on it.

Of course the Violent Femmes kick ass. Their first album is a staple of modern/college rock. I got to see them live in 94, and they put on a good a show, which I expected because of their instrumentation and energy.

Check out their later album 'Why Do Birds Sing?' - I think it's as good as their first, though not nearly as iconic, having come out some 7- 8 years later. Their second album, Hallowed Ground, doesn't seem to have much of a following, but I think it's a really good listen - seems like the darker and morbid parts of the first album all put onto the front burner.

I haven't heard anything else by them, but their self-titled first album is definitely a classic.

Cool. Thanks for the responses guys. I have definitely decided to get their first album. I mean the three songs I have already heard have had me hooked. Definitely some strange arrangements with this band. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

my favorite song of theirs is actually "colour me once" from THE CROW soundtrack sampler. I've heard bits and pieces of their other stuff but didn't warm up much to any of them (since it seems "colour me once" is an exeption of their usual stye). "Freak Magnet" isn't bad tough.

Anybody knows if "Colour me once" appears on any of their albums at all?

Check out the 1960's band fronted then by Lou Reed "The Velvet Underground" The Violent Femmes picked up where they left off when V.U. disbanded in like '69? or '70? Unique music.

Yeah I am familiar with Velvet Underground. In name only though. I only ever heard one of their songs but yeah now that you mention it, it does seem like The Violent Femmes are somewhat of an extension of those guys. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.
