"About 90 people, mostly fighters but also women and children, have been killed since a spike in violence Sunday sent Gaza into civil war."

"The world is watching us dying and doing nothing to help. God help us, we feel like we are in a real-life horror movie," he said.

People getting executed in front of their familes despite pleas for them to stop the killing. This is the face of terror. And they say the whole world watches and does nothing. What a surprise.

No this is what it is like because we are there. Big difference.

More and more people studying the situation in Iraq believe that if we leave, the Iraqi's will turn on Al Qaeda.

If our most important issue is national security, leaving Iraq and redeploying troops to Afghanistan would be our best move.

To honor the ending of the greatest show in T.V. history, I'm going to quote Tony Soprano on this one:

"I'm like King Midas in reverse, everything I touch turns to shit."

Change "I" to "America" and I'll have made my point.

Hey, it won't matter. Iraq is barely clinging on with us there, and if we stayed there forever it would never change. Best to pull out, let them deal with it themselves, and rebuild.

What is the difference between when Saddam ruled and since we have been there? Not much. Violence might be up, not sure someone probably knows the answer to that.

I think the Iraqis believed that with us there, we would keep control and order, but it didn't turn out that way. It takes time and leaving would be a bad thing. It is too late, we are in this war, and we can't leave.

That is horrible!

Why didn't anyone tell me that America left Iraq. Obviously if the country is doing so poorly now, we should go back to Iraq.

I'll seperate my argument into the two situations presented in this thread:

Palestinian crisis
The events taking place in the West Bank and Gaza are a result of years of the political ineffectiveness of the Palestinian Authority government. Ever since the death of Yassir Arafat, the people have lacked a leader to rally with. Mahmoud Abbas does not compare to the charisma and power that was Arafat.

As a result, political fractures are taking place. Years of fighting for a Palestinian state are now being replaced by fighting for a new power to wage that war. This is exactly what happened 40 years ago with Yasir Arafat creating Al-Fatah, removing himself from the Arab National Movement that had attempted to solve the Palestinian crisis for years prior. Of course, it was less blood back then, but the reason is still the same.

Now that Fatah has the West Bank, and Hamas has Gaza, thing will get more interesting in the months to come. I have no doubt that Israel won't sit back and let the two sides wage war across the country. If this fighting continues though, the chances of a Palestinian state are shrinking fast.

Iraq
As I said in another Iraq post, the country has reached the point where if no force is there to maintain some sort of peace the country will fall apart. As wrong as it seems to me and others, the US has to remain in Iraq. I was totally against the US even stepping into Iraq in 2003 and have criticized them continually. But as it stands now, if Iraq wants to stay together they need an intermediary.

Iraq will not turn into the situation in the West Bank/Gaza. They are two totally seperate issues with different circumstances. So pleae don't compare them...

Honestly, foreign affairs concern me less than many other political issues. You may very well disagree with me, but I believe a country must fix itself before it can attempt to fix others.

Could this have anything to do with the fact that we've armed the Sunni insurgents on the condition that they use those weapons against Al Qaeda and not our troops?
