Premise: On January 23, 2002, Mariane Pearl's world changed forever. Her husband Daniel, South Asia bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal, was researching a story on shoe bomber Richard Reid. The story drew them to Karachi where a go-between had promised access to an elusive source. As Danny left for the meeting, he told Mariane he might be late for dinner. He never returned.
In the face of death, Danny's spirit of defiance and his unflinching belief in the power of journalism led Mariane to write about his disappearance, the intense effort to find him and his eventual murder in her memoir "A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl." Six months pregnant when the ordeal began, she was carrying a son that Danny hoped to name Adam. She wrote the book to introduce Adam to the father he would never meet. Transcending religion, race and nationality, Mariane's courageous desire to rise above the bitterness and hatred that continues to plague this post 9/11 world, serves as the purest expression of the joy of life she and Danny shared.

This piece of filmwork looks absolutely riveting. Movies don't look much better than they do here.

Ugh, Michael Winterbottom. 9 SONGS was horrid, and I shut off IN THIS WORLD after twenty minutes. I'll wait and see for this one.
And does the "horror violence" MPAA tagline mean we'll see some horrific on-screen decapitation?

A Mighty Heart is rated R for language. Go to mpaa.org. I'm not sure where that rating info came from.
Michael Winterbottom is a genius. He is one of the best directors working today. His filmography is incredibly diverse and he has made some exceptional films. Do not judge him by 9 Songs.

They are mistaken on this one. There's no sexual content or horror violence, just language.

Alright, thanks Madsen. I'll edit the initial post.

My pleasure. This might be considered a spoiler, so I will continue writing this down a few lines just in case:
The beheading is not shown. I was a little surprised when I saw that the only reason for the rating is language, but apparently they stear clear of on screen violence in this.

But... but... he made hardcore sex boring! http://members.lycos.nl/johnjay/pics/emot-ssj.gif
Admitted, some of his older films (JUDE, WELCOME TO SARAJEVO) look good. And I'm happy to hear that this movie features no graphic violence.

I'm not a huge fan of Winterbottom but I still give him tons of appreciation for trying new things. This movie does look good though, although it seems awkward to release it in June. Looks more like an Oscar contender.

I have heard nothing good about 9 Songs so I have never seen it. I am, however, a huge fan of Jude, Wonderland (not w/ Kilmer), Welcome to Sarajevo, The Claim and In This World. I also heard nothing but good things about Tristram Shandy, though I haven't seen it.

Big fan of Winterbottom (not so much 9 Songs, but definitely for 24 Hour Party People and the underrated Code 46). Not so much a fan of Jolie. This sounds okay.

Oh thanks Lazy Boy I forgot those two. I also really like Code 46 and 24 Hour Party People. Sometimes I can't believe the same person directed all those movies.

This film, plot and story wise, sounds excellent. But, especially based on some early buzz, I feel a bit doubtful as to if they executed the material in the right, poignant way. As far as the talent involved goes, all I can say is that Jolie is a painfully inconsistent actress, and yet, this looks to be the type of role that is ripe for expression and the unleashing of her true acting skills; instead of all of those video game adaptations and explosive duds and blockbusters. I've never seen a Winterbottom film, but here's hoping this lives up to its potential.

While I think the film will not do well at the box office , I think Jolie has nailed this part and the film will probably be pretty damn interesting. She's always been a good actress , every actor lays an egg every once in a while..shes not exempt.

This looks fascinating; I'll certainly be checking this out for its interesting story but mainly for Jolie, who looks like she delivers quite the powerhouse performance. Perhaps this will remind us all that, after all, she IS an actress - and a rather talented one at that.

Actually, if you take a look at an interview or two with Mariane Pearl, you'll see that Jolie actually nails the accent spot-on.

Of course she does , this isn't Lindsay Lohan..Angelina sounds EXACTLY like Mrs Pearl. She even looks a lot like her with the wig and the contacts.
