I think besides musicians on this planet, there as just as many wannabe writers. I was once told by my screenwriting teacher that there were more supposed writers in Hollywood than is possible to shake a stick at!
Hardest job ever, if you want to succeed. What you need to succeed besides talent and major brains, is either lots of moolah or connections...

That's where you're wrong JaneBlo - by the way, nice original name.
In my opinion the majority of people who post here would agree with me when I say that Hollywood can kiss my ass!!
Independent is what we're all about - and Independent is the future. - and Hollywood knows this.

Crynot hit the nail on the head. Down with Hollywood, up with Indies. It doesn't matter what connections. I think an important aspect is having friends with the same interests who you can partner up with or that can help you out. Also, you have to test out your screenplay with people to see what they think. If you have a shit screenplay your gonna come out with a shit movie and that would be a waste.

I'm with Scarface.
We need to help each other out whenever possible.

i'm not saying down with hollywood. I'm not saying up with indies. I think that Indies are the door to Hollywood. Now, if you want to hit it big you have to go the indie route and hope that you come out of the right doorr (pardon the metephors) anyone else agree that Indies are just the opening?

Okay, I'm not saying that if I made/wrote a movie that hit Sundance and won several awards and some agent from Hollywood wanted to see my work that I would tell him to stick it. I'm just saying THANK GOD that Indies are hot because it gives people like me a decent chance to get my stuff looked at.
So, yeah if Hollywood ever fell in my lap I probably would take it but until then I'm going the INDY route.

Ya thats what i meant Mankato. I'm saying that traditional Hollywood is changing drastically because of indies. And that is the future.

I think the whole thing between indies and Hollywood is rubbish. They are all part of the same industry. All that counts is whether your movie is good or not. Hollywood produces lots of original "indie" movies and many independent movie companies produce lots of predictable "hollywood" fluff straight for TV.

Independent filmmaking is all well and good, but if Hollywood was willing to back my projects, I'd be a fool to turn down such an opportunity, provided I was able to maintain creative control over my work. /ubb/smile.gif

Yep. Indie is definately the gateway to Hollywood. if we didn't have independt films we wouldn't have filmmakers like Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Sam Raimi, etc.

I'd agree with that, but I'd do one big hollywood movie to go after the big prize......BEST PICTURE.Plus I think I've got one with my mob one so I'll stick with Hollywood then do a low budget, indie film to start my career! /ubb/cool.gif
