Before i commence this thread, apologies to any fellow schmoes i may have offended with my political statements in other threads. Any ways, I wanted to ask y'all WHAT'S THE WORST MOVIE IDEA YOU'VE EVER HEARD OF?
My picks:
Monopoly: The Movie (directed by Ridley Scott no less)--please, Sir Ridley, let this be an insanely bad joke
Burger King: The Movie--leaving aside the horrid idea of making a film about that freak of a mascot, WHO honestly would direct/star in something like this? Would that person like to be forever known as the "director/star of Burger King: The Movie"?!
Sadly, though, I'd probably see both, just as I'm planning on watching "Cavemen" in the fall on ABC:(
What about YOU? What wastes of celluloid and brain cells have y'all heard about?

As much as I want to dispute what you're saying, I can't deny it.
Hopefully, the Monopoly idea is just Ridley having some laughs at our expense--plus the article said he'd been OFFERED the position, not that he actually ACCEPTED it. hopefully, he'll be too busy making Body of Lies, Nottingham, and Blood meridian to bother. As for BK, I might just wait until it comes on DVD and watch then when I'm bored out of my mind or extremely drunk. I'd say let Joel Schumacher direct both, since he's good at turning movies into demented toy commercials.

- ANY situation comedy in which an actor which you normally wouldn't expect to be in a certain situation is put in that situation - hilarity ensues. Kindergarden Cop. The Pacifier.
- Snakes on a Plane.
- Movies based on board games. How Clue actually managed to work is completely beyond me.
- Any attempt to cheaply modernize classic tales. Pinnochio 2000, Dracula 3000.
- Disney direct-to-video sequels.
- Battlefield Earth.

That was a brilliant idea that was turned into complete cheeze.
But Monopoly? That sounds fucking amazing lol.
And I think the copious amounts of coke floating around hollywood in the 80's is pretty much the only explanation for the various weird retarded flick ideas produced during that era.

I remember a while back reading on another movie site about a film that was in production in which the female lead character in the middle of splitting from her alcoholic husband discovers that she's growing a penis. Whoever thought of that one should be barred from writing screenplays for eternity.

Well, historically...:
"This film's title originated at an after-work happy hour among Hollywood colleagues to see who could come up with the most awful pitch for a movie. Producer 'Craig Berenson (III)' , who worked for DreamWorks at the time, gave his pitch for this movie based on a script called "Venom.""

Monopoly: The Movie
"First you get Reading Railroad...then you get the money...then you get the power..."
Starring Sir Ben Kingsley as Mr. Moneybags
Lindsay Lohan as the Car
Owen Wilson as the Thimble
Pierce Brosnan as the Top Hat
and Morgan Freeman
....sadly, someone might do this one.
Then there'll be:
PARCHEESIE: THE CURSE OF THE IVORY DICE
THE GAME OF LIFE...AND DEATH
SHOOTS AND LADDERS (Directed by John Woo)
...it never ends.

Personally, I think THE SIMS movie tops the Monopoly one (though the Monopoly one does have the wtf factor of Ridley Scott). At least Monopoly could vaguely have a story...it doesn't even make sense to make a SIMS movie...it literally just simulates our life so there's no story or elements you could take from it anyway to make a movie...

Maybe they'll go all 80's with it and have it like "kid plays Sims on his computer and notices he can control the people living next door to him".
But yeah, these are all really bad ideas.

But i agree with evryone whos says this is a very very bad idea. I just cant comprehend how they can make a quality film out of this. but then again it is hollywood so it'll probly a load of rubbish dressed up as a summer blockbuster (hmmm did any1 else get deju-vu then?)

That Super Mario Bros. movie with Bob Hoskins is probably the dumbest I've ever heard of but I sadly doubt it's the dumbest idea ever.
EDIT: Oh, nevermind, I just remembered....."Shaquille O'Neal is a genie that raps!"

Here's a new gem. fellow schmoes: http://www.cinematical.com/2007/08/02/magic-8-ball-the-movie/
Apparently, someone from the toy companies must be visiting this forum, b/c mention was also made of a Candy Land movie. Doubt that would be as funny as edonline's idea.

Search the Screenwriting forum for something along the lines of:
"Superhero must battle mutant irradiated aliens with her Cinnamon Bun powers which she got from eating a mutated irradiated Cinnamon Bun."
Also from this classic mind:
Female professional wrestler must battle addiction after her partneris killed in the ring by a super camel clutch, and she must title fight her way until she kills her nemesis in the ring."
