If I had actually been looking forward to a Transformers movie I would have been pissed with the way it turned out. This whole affair just looks BAD. Wasn't this shot by Michael Bay? I have only seen a couple of his movies but he has yet to impress me. CGI Transformers was just a bad way to go. Should have just kept it animated. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I'm really hoping to enjoy the movie, but I fear it will mean sitting through Bay's usual assault of hyper editing. I thought he would have learned something and would maybe just let the camera sit still and capture some of the most amazing special effects I have seen (by the look of them).
I haven't really enjoyed a Michael Bay movie since The Rock. Although The Island was ok. This guy manages to make action and destruction boring to me.
But I still hope Transformers will be an exception. It looks like it kicks ass.

Bad Boys II was the only movie of Bay's where the quick cutting was too much for me. But that movie actually plays much better on the small screen.
But I'm still looking forward to this. I've enjoyed all of Bay's movies.

I havn't really ever had problem with Bay movie's quick cutting, I can usually still clearly tell what's going on and still enjoy the movie. Usually I like the cutting because it manages to be fast yet still quite clear. I havn't seen Transformers yet so I'll reserve judgement untill I see that one... However the only movie where QuicK Cutting and close ups occured and I COULDN'T TELL what the hell was happening was Batman Begins, and that wasn't even a Bay movie.

I agree. The fight scenes in Batman Begins were horrid. No idea what was going on. Way too close up and too much Quick Cutting.
I liked the movie overall though.

But in Batman you could at least make the case that they're trying to put you in the shoes of those Batman is fighting. Batman doesn't come head up, he attacks in tight spaces and with quick movements. You don't see Batman before he knocks you the fuck out. In 28 weeks later, and I assume transformers, they are trying to put you in a state of chaos. Knowing what is going on may not be what they're going for is all I'm saying. Quick cuts are just a staple of American cinema at this point be they annoying or be they well used (rarely). I did think the cuts were a bit overused in 28 weeks though, but i still enjoyed the hell out of that movie, so hopefully I can look past this problem in regards to the Robot movie I'm not even really interested in seeing in the first place.

Are you trying to tell me that a Michael Bay movie isn't good? Say it isn't so!

Now that I've seen the movie I completely agree. The action scenes were pretty terrible. And this is coming from a guy who usually likes MIchael Bay movies. So yeah, the action sucked.

I didn't really have any problems telling what was going on. I thought the fight scenes were more confusing in BATMAN BEGINS.

I agree with this.
The fact that there wasnt as much action in the movie until the end actualy saved it in my opinion.
Effects= great
Action= terrible
The main problem was one anyone could tell just by looking at the deisgns beforehand. WAY, WAY, too complicated. Just a mess of wires and gears. Once them slam into each i couldnt tell what the fuck was going on.

heh the funny thing is is that all i've read about him anbd this movie is that the only good parts are the Action sequences and apparently alot of ppl think that action sequences are the only thing Bay can shoot well.
Now i jsut don't know what to think lol

This movie was odd like that.
Explosions can only do so much for me. The character moments (both man and machine) and the humor were the best parts of this movie.

The "humor" I thought was awful, they could've easily cut 30 minutes of those stupid joke moments that really did nothing for the film. I must say though, Prime's whole big "freedom" speech about halfway through...funniest thing I've seen in ages. Absolutely ridiculous cheeseball speech and it just went on and on and on. Fit the movie perfectly :)
And yeah, like I said in the other thread, I don't really know what people are complaining about in the action scenes. I thought they were really well shot and he used some pretty cool long (!) takes to really show you what's going on. I loved it.

I agree with Quigles and arto_j. I really didn't have much of a problem telling what was going on in the action sequences in the last half, the only thing that was confusing was which transformer was which (but I admittedly had no clue to begin with anyway). And yeah I found the action in Batman Begins much more confusing (even though I love the movie to death) if intentional to a certain extent.
And like said in the other thread, those action sequences will play better on DVD I think. I remember going to see The Bourne Supremacy and being sorely disappointed in the action sequences (especially one car chase) where I had no fucking clue what was going on but when I rewatched it on DVD, the action was much clearer and easy to follow. The big screen makes it harder to grasp what is going on with close-ups.

This doesn't surprise me. Bay's movies are usually edited under the assumption that everyone in the audience has ADHD...

I sat in the 3rd row of a large theater and I had no problem telling what was going on, where a character was, who a character/robot was, or what the characters were doing. Everything seemed clear and nothing seemed to be too close or cut too fast... So I have no clue what Tuuka is talking about.

IMO, the action sequences (and their visibility) are fine and the least of the film's problems.
