I recently went to see transformers and I'm starting this rant to complain about the untitled j.j. abrahms flick that previewed before it. This preview was one of the best teasers I've ever seen, but when the time came for a title to flash across the screen there was nothing!!!! How are we supposed to anticipate this flick without a fucking title??!!! I've briefly searched the web for info on this film and so far have found nothing...

Nothing wrong with that...smart marketing :D

Part of the tease and reinforces the "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?" reaction...

Some people behind me in the theater were set on calling it "Bad Robot. " I assume they are not the core audience of Lost, 'cause that logo was seen at the end of every episode.

I still think it's one of the effective teasers I've ever seen, but will that footage make it into the film, or is that just shot to build interest? It reminded me of the War of the Worlds teaser with all the families stepping outside the suburban community to watch explosions in the distance.

no, it doesn't show the title at the end either, i saw it in a sold out theater and it actually got laughs, i think people were confused, especially with no title

Digifruitella ended up telling me about that one yesterday. I've never heard of JJ Abrams so I don't know if I should be anticipating anything without seeing the trailer first. What is it about? Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

One of the most effective teasers I'll agree with, but the moment it didn't actually tell you what the movie was called it kind of ruined it's effectiveness now no one knows what movie the trailer was for and thus they'll forget about it because it has no name to them.

I can't tell you exactly what the film is about, but I'll describe the teaser for you. The teaser starts out in an apartment during some sort of going away party. The footage is shot documentary style through the lens of a camcorder, presumably recorded by one of the party guests. Everything is fine until a large explosion occurs miles away, accompanied by a strange groaning noise. Everyone at the party runs outside just in time to see bits of fiery debris and rebel crash into the street. The last shot is of the Statue of Liberty's head crashing into the middle of the street.

Thanks for the synopsis psyceoutsteve. That sounds pretty good... for a teaser. I have never watched Lost and the trailer has been taken off of Youtube before I got to see it. Also the site doesn't really offer anything so your synopsis is all I really have to go on. They are being really secretive about this film so far. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Apparently JJ abrmas is the guy who wrote the screen play for Armageddon and wrote and directed Mission Impossible 3, for what thats worth.

But if this is a new Godzilla movie i'm gonna find this guy and crap in his hat

Someone posted THIS (http://www.firstshowing.net/2007/06/29/jj-abrams-top-secret-trailer-for-cloverfield-in-front-of-transformers/) link in the other thread. It blew me away. For those of you who haven't seen the trailer this is your chance before it gets taken down again. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

It toally looked like Godzilla, I searched IMDB and it just says JJ Abrams untilted pic.

and how could you not know who abrams was and post on a movie web board. Lost, Alias, Mission Impossible 3, Armageddon none of these names ring a bell either.

J.J. Abrams is one of the guys who created Felicity, Lost, and Alias. Hes done some other stuff, namely directing M.I. 3 as well as directing the upcoming Star Trek movie. I dont really know if its a big deal that hes producing the movie or not but I do know that someone else is directing.

I agree. The teaser peaked my interest; it would've been nice to have a name but the footage onscreen was enough to make me want to watch the movie.

Plus, maybe it doesn't have a name yet.

Here we go, the rant was bound to happen.

What you, my friend experienced, is called smart marketing (as already mentioned in the second post) It's designed to raise people's curiosity. Titled, it would simply be just another movie, although a cool looking one. Though it would lose the appeal of not knowing what it is, and people will quickly forget.

If you really want a title, call it Cloverfield, as this is the secret name (based on the lot they're making this movie on)

I don't need an explanation as to what I experienced concerning the teaser and the marketing tactics used by it...I got it the first time...

What I'm pissed about is the fact that if they gave it a title there would still be intrigue and interest in the project because the teaser only showed tiny snippets of one scene. Giving the movie a title wouldn't hinder the public's interest at all, it would simply make the movie's future release even more memorable.

When I asked my friends if they saw the trailer, they couldn't remember. It wasn't the one trailer they forgot about. It was until I mentioned that the movie looked like a documentary that they actually remembered the trailer.

So no, I don't think the clever marketing quite worked. The fact it didn't have a title proved detrimental.

Well, count one person who has learned about the movie because it was marketed with no title: That person is Hector, my lab tech.

If I had to guess, the fact that the movie was untitled probably had very little to do with how memorable the teaser was compared to the scenes it showed. Ya...the Statue of Fucking Liberty's head was rolling around in the street...I'd say that's pretty memorable in itself...

Hector told me to mention that this thread wasn't about how badass the trailer was, but about it having no title.

I tell Hector, "Back to the lab with you! psycheoutsteve doesn't want to hear how you learned about the movie, Hector." But then he sings to me, and it is so sweet. Beautiful, beautiful songs - about food. He's like the Latino Weird Al, except his mustache is so much more glorious, and his songs are not parodies. They are siren's calls.

Finally saw the trailer. Damn! That one gal had some remarkable cleavage!

My guess is that they just don't have a title yet, because everything they came up with made it sound like a Sci-Fi movie, or something. It looks very cool though.
