I was just going to make a thread for this. This is definitely another solid album from Interpol. And I agree with Roy that Mammoth and Rest My Chemistry are probably my two favorites as well.

I dont like it better than Turn on the Bright Lights though. I may have to give it a few more listens to decide.

Agree with everyone else here...my personal favorites are Pioneer to the Falls, Mammoth, Pace is the Trick, and Rest my Chemistry...

I don't know where it stands with the other Interpol albums yet cause I need to give it a few more whirls to sink in but there's a good possibility it beats out both Turn out Your Bright Lights and Antics for me.

It's a cracking album. I actually think it's better than their debut (and their sophomore effort). Saw them live at T In The Park yesterday and Mammoth, Rest My Chemistry and Evil were highlights. I'd definitely see them again.

the videos well arty

i think the new one is much more atmospheric i love the way it sounds spacious and unlike antics has thier lush interwoven guitar sound back.

I like Pioneer To The Falls, Mammooth, and the last two tracks the best. I liked Antics a lot but it lacked emotion; this one's dripping with epic moments and pain.

Someone please help me with this...
Isn't Our Love to Admire supposed to be up on the iTunes Store by now? It's 12:50 July 10th. It only has the pre-order option which does not even work. What the hell I have to listen to this album ASAP!

Well, judging by the rave reviews in this thread, I might be alone when I say that I am pretty underwhelmed with the new album. While there are a few great tracks, particularly "Mammoth", "Rest My Chemistry", and "Wrecking Ball", the album is full of songs that drag and build up to nothing. The dark melody and strange hooks and catchy vocals of Interpol just aren't there this time around. It's as if theyre trying to expand and take a step forward musically and comercially but they brought nothing with them to do so. I don't know, I'll give it a few more listens to see If my feelings towards it change, but I don't think I will be the only fan let down and confused. Interpol is a great band but I'm just worried that they'll abandon the sound of Turn on the Bright Lights eventually and turn into a completely different band.

On a happier note (in my opinion), the new Spoon album has got some great stuff on it and I'm looking forward to listening to the Stars album I just bought that also came out today.

the new Spoon got really boring, really quickly.

also, Stylus' review of this album is just about the shittiest review I've written since Pitchfork's Kid A.

Because it disagrees with you?

The Heart Collector

Have you read the review? It practically has nothing to do with the music and everything to do with the writer's beliefs of who Interpol are as people, and their fans.

The Pitchfork Kid A review is probably the worst review ever. Even though the writer had good intentions. It's just like, wtf is this guy talking about.

Scarfather

The reviewer is a big contrived self-righteous douchebag ninny, but at least, as exercises in smarminess go, it wasn't badly written. I've just read much worse.

Superplasmatron

I barely reads revues as critics generally pandor to what the people want to hear, I have listened to interpol and I really don't see there is any problem with songs building up to just end, this is a critasism of there current single which i think is ace,

as for spoon's new album, its so dull i'd rather drink paint wailst being punched in the ball bags by a kangeroo.

Agreed.

On the subject of interpol this album is mother fucking fantastic but not quite on par with turn on the bright lights.

Interpol? Snooore...

At least Spoon has good, distinctive songwriting.

Let's be honest Paul Banks couldn't write an original melody even if held at gun point.

I dig the Joy Division-esque sound of their other albums. Is this album sorta like that or is it different?

notchreturns
07-25-2007, 01:54 PM
No, they all pretty much sound the same.

Probably has to do with Paul Banks singing the same key throughout all the 3 albums.

Elgyn

Not bad, but nothing too remarkable either.
To be honest, I don`t even think it`s quite as good as "Antics".
The first two songs are great but the rest of the record doesn`t seem able to match them IMO.
Interpol better watch out - if they don`t mix things up a little on the next one, they`re going to fall into the trap of making the same album over and over.

And "No I In Threesome".......I actually really like this song, but for goodness sakes an entire song about trying to convince your girlfriend to have a threesome? Gee how romantic. Kind of ruins the 'somber' mood a little.

Maybe the next Interpol album will have a song about trying to convince your girlfriend to have buttsex.

Just got done listening to and....wow, this is not a very good album. Musically, lyrically, it's just a lackluster effort on all fronts. The only reason I didn't like the Pitchfork review is because they didn't give it a lower rating.
