Towering Inferno??
Paul Newman
Steve McQueen
Fred Astaire
William Holden
Faye Dunaway
Jennifer Jones
Robert Wagner
Robert Vaughn
Susan Blakely
That cast is so god damn perfect I cant trake it. To have Newman, McQueen, Astaire, and Holden in the same movie is the best top 4 in movie history for male actors in a movie. Am I forgetting something?

Oh it's definitely up there, especially when it was released.
Like The Great Escape.
I'm thinking Ocean's Thirteen right now:
Clooney
Pitt
Damon
Pacino
Garcia
Barkin
Cheadle
Mac
Gould
Carl Reiner
Casey Affleck
Scott Caan
Eddie Izzard
Julian Sands
Vincent Cassell

should best cast at least equal good film? Or at least elevation of the material?
Is so take off Towering inferno and Ocean's anything if it's contending with true romance, Godfathers and heat.
Can i get an OUTSIDERS?

I'll agree with Heat. Hell, their's still more. There's Jeremy Piven, Henry Rollins, Tom Noonan, Danny Trejo, Hank Azaria, Kevin Gage, and of course Tone Loc.
I'm gonna base this on name value.l
I'm suprised no one's said Sin City yet:
Bruce Willis
Mickey Rourke
Clive Owen
Nick Stahl
Jessica Alba
Devin Aoki
Alexis Bledel
Powers Boothe
Rosario Dawson
Benicio Del Toro
Michael Clarke Duncan
Carla Gugino
Josh Hartnett
Rutger Hauer
Nicky Katt
Jaime King
Michael Madsen
Brittany Murphy
Marley Shelton
Nick Stahl
Elijah Wood
Short Cuts is another one:
Andy MacDowell
Bruce Davidson
Jack Lemmon
Julianne Moore
Matthew Modine
Fred Ward
Jennifer Jason Leigh
Chris Penn
Lili Taylor
Robert Downey Jr.
Madeline Stowe
Tim Robbins
Lily Tomlin
Tom Waits
Frances McDormand
Peter Gallagher
Lyle Lovett
Huey Lewis
Charles Rocket
Crash is another one I'm suprised wasn't mentioned.
Sandra Bullock
Don Cheadle
Tony Danza
Keith David
Loretta Divine
Matt Dillion
Michael Pena
Jennifer Esposito
William Fichtner
Brendan Frasier
Terrence Howard
Ludacris
Thandie Newton
Ryan Phillippe
Larenz Tate
Nowhere is a Gregg Araki film that mixes Indie faves with some very odd cameos:
James Duval
Rachel True
Debi Mazar
Kathleen Robertson
Jordan Ladd
Christina Ricci
Guillermo Diaz
Ryan Phillippe
Heather Graham
Scott Caan
Mena Suvari
Beverly D'Angelo
Charlotte Rae (Mrs. Garrett from Facts Of Life)
Denise Richards
Traci Lords
Shannon Doherty
Rose McGowan
John Ritter
Christopher Knight (Bobby Brady)
Eve Plumb (Jan Brady)
Staci Keanan (Step By Step)
Glengarry Glen Ross is one that doesn't have a large cast like the previous ones. It just has six actors all giving amazing performances.
Al Pacino
Kevin Spacey
Jack Lemmon
Alec Baldwin
Alan Arkin
Ed Harris
Rick-James

If we're talking about cast and not "quality of preformances in said movie",
X Men: The Last Stand (Stay with me here...)
Hugh Jackman
Ian McKellen
Famke Janssen
Patrick Stewart
Ellen Page
James Marsden
Halle Berry
Anna Paquin
Kelsey Grammer
Rebecca Romijn
Ben Foster
etc.
True Romance and Sin City are definitely up there too.
King Arthur had a great cast too....(again, just stay with me)
Clive Owen
Keira Knightley
Ioan Gruffind (spelled wrong?)
Stellan Skarsgaard
Ray Winstone
Mads Mikkelson
Mystic River
Sean Penn
Kevin Bacon
Tim Robbins
Laura Linney
Macy Gray Harden
Emily Rossum
Laurence Fishburne
Those are off the top of my head.
I know some of you don't agree with the first 2....
But I don't really care.

daaaaaamn. Frank the Tank, you did your homework. I don't think think i need to revisit this thread after that explosion.
So Echo Bravo, I'm going to take a cue from your avatar and post some MF Doom lyrics:
"Strange Ways"
They pray four times a day, They pray five
Who ways are strange when it;s time to survive
Some will go of their own free will to die
Others take them with you when they blow sky high
What's the difference? All you get is lost children
While the bosses sit up behind a desk, It cost billions -
-to blast humans in half, into calves and arms
Only one side is allowed to have bombs
That's like making a soldier drop his weapon
Shooting him, and telling him to get to steppin'
Obviously, they came to portion up his fortune
Sounds to me like that old robbery extortion
theres a crazy 1minute 36 second documentary to this song here:

Later, jerk-offs...

how about best user name ever---->ToiletBug
seriously. I am new to the post so let me know how we decide this other then just rattling off the same few films.
is it:
the departed?
Heat?
Oceans13?
Godfather?
True Romance?
Tombstone?
Sin City?
Crash?
Nowhere?
Towering Inferno?
The Muppet Movies?(I kid)
we need consensus. and criteria to judge 'best'. Maybe we all decide on the three best then go on over to IMDB and let the ranking split the difference. If we do it that way I'm rolling with True Romance, just nudging out Heat.
Yo, Toiletbug, it's your thread, what say you?
**and how did Ryan Phillipe make it onto 2 of the contenders?!

Yeah . . . that'll never happen, especially if it's taken to imdb.
I don't think there will ever be a consensus because it's mostly opinion at this point. One man's Pacino is another man's DeNiro. These are all great casts and it's up for debate, rather than consensus.

A cast is only good if everyone in it gives strong performances.
Based on this alone, my pick is GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS. An amazing cast of actors with some great dialogue, it's a cant' miss.
Tarantino movies also have very strong casts, PULP FICTION comes to mind, although JACKIE BROWN also had some great performances in there (even Robert DeNiro, who spends all his screen time stoned out of his mind, and then becomes a psychotic at the end).

Strange Days:
Ralph Fiennes
Angela Bassett

William Fichtner
And I know I said True Romance earlier, but the best cast ever has to be...

Frank McRae
Tom Noonan
Anthony Quinn
Mercedes Ruehl
Bridgette Wilson
With cameos by:
Ian McKellen
Joan Plowright
Tina Turner

You can't go wrong with a cast that includes..
Nick Nolte
John Travolta
John Cusack
Jim Cavizel (?)
John C. Reily
Sean Penn
Adrien Brody
Elias Koteas (is that right?)
Woodey Harrelson
Dash Mihok (is THAT right?)
Thomas Jane
Jared Leto
Nich Stahl
George Clooney
And a bunch of other people I forgot.
That cast was just soooo damn bloated. And you could have an amazing movie with the parts that were CUT out!
Gary Oldman
Mickey Rourke
Viggo Mortensen
Bill Paxton
Billy Bob Thorton
...And more.
If I could get a directors cut of any movie, it'd be The Thin Red Line.
