I'm a big JC fan. What's your choices with his movies as director? Because this guy acts, writes, composes and directs since he was 14 years old. Surely one of the most versatile movie makers out there.

my all time favourite director, i love all his films and find it very difficult to pick a favourite. he also does amazing soundtracks which go perfectly with them, the ones for In The Mouth Of Madness and Starman are easily two of my favourites. right now i'd probably say In The Mouth Of Madness is just above the others as far as a favourite could go, absolutely love that film, the direction, cast, soundtrack, story and characters are all brilliant. i'd probably have to say Halloween is his best and while i still really like it, Escape From LA is the lesser of his films. i'd love to see the shorts he did but they seem to be impossible to find

and Psychopath is one of my most anticipated films, can't wait for that

I'd like to see that. Was it a made for Tv 2 part mini-series? Or a feature length film? I have never ever seen it, nor I have seen it available for rent or for purchase. Carpenter and Russell have done some great work together.

He was one of the best earlier in his career. It's a shame that he has lost his touch (and he won't admit it).

Favorite Escape from New York
I love Escape just because of how cool it is and how fun it is to watch. I cannot stress enough how great the special effects have held up. Kurt Russell is totally badass in it.

Best Starman
It's a total masterpiece. Jeff Bridges was phenomenal in it (well deserved Oscar nomination for best actor). I much prefer it over E.T.

Worst Ghosts of Mars/Village of the Damned
What little I've seen of the two was awful. Even though he only produced it, Vampires: Los Muertos is one of the most poorly put together movies I've seen in recent years.

I have hope for his upcoming movie Psychopath.

So, I had Ghosts of Mars on my "been wanting to see" list. Now, I have the impression that it should be on my "never see" list!

Don't get the lovin' for They Live. I appreciated the cheesy fun of it. But the "social message" about mass consumerism comes out like being hit repeatedly by a 2x4. Again, it's fun and all, but I don't see it as one of Carpenter's best. What am I not seeing or appreciating about They Live?

I consider Carpenter to be one of the great directors, and I haven't out & out disliked any of his films. I don't get the hatred for Ghost of Mars though. Sure it's flawed but it's also extremely entertaining.

My fav - The Thing
Best - The Thing
Worst - tie Prince of Darkness/Village of the Damned

Ghosts of Mars - 7/10
Vampires - 7/10
Escape from L.A. - 7/10
Village of the Damned - 4/10
In the Mouth of Madness - 9/10
Memoirs of an Invisible Man - 5/10
They Live - 8/10
Prince of Darkness - 4/10
Big Trouble in Little China - 8/10
Starman - 7/10
Christine - 7/10
The Thing - 10/10
Escape from New York - 9/10
The Fog - 8/10
Halloween - 10/10
