Not a huge Simpsons fan, but I watch it every now and then and I am looking forward to this movie. I think the trailers and TV spots have been pretty good so far.

I've never understood why people find THE SIMPSONS to be remotely humorous. I find the television series to be about as interesting as watching ice melt, and I imagine I'll think the same about the movie. You won't see me watching this.

I'm so excited that I'm even buying the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer...who I usually loathe.

I haven't watched the show in years, and the first episode I did watch ended up being pretty awful (a rerun about Marge playing a computer game, it was pretty labored). Yet, I'm really excited to see what's in store for the movie.

You should have seen the one hour - 2 episode season finale. They were both hilarious. Especially the first episode which was a spoof of 24.
Then again that episode is probably more funny for a 24 fan. I don't know if you watch it or not. The attention of detail in it's spoofing was great. They even copy the credits.
However, the second episode was just as great. The news reporter says a bad word by accident on tv and gets into trouble for it. It's pretty funny.

The old school simpsons episodes are great, the new ones are pretty good too. This has probably one of the best advertisting campaigns with the 7-11 turning into Kwik E Mart, and the whole simpsonizing yourself. It looks like a fun time at the movies.

I'll see it out of loyalty to the prime of the Simpsons, but I don't think it looks that good. The trailers have been meh so far, and the stuff with the pig is really lame and looks like it should appear in Daddy Day Camp not in The Simpsons Movie.

The episode of South Park that spoofed 24 was way better, IMO.

Let's not forget the Springfield contest they held that determined which city would host the premiere of the movie. Oh and that Green Day is recording a new version of THE SIMPSONS theme and will be supposedly releasing it as a single. Yeah probably the best marketing campaign for a movie I ever heard of. Really looking foward to this. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Yeah, I've seen the older seasons. I've never watched an entire season, because it isn't quality entertainment at all for me, but I have seen several episodes from the so called 'classic' time of THE SIMPSONS.

I love The Simpsons and always will. The recent seasons are not as strong as the previous, with their fair share of weak episodes, but I still dig Homer and his gang.

Apparently 70% of what is in the trailer will not be in the actual movie... at least thats what Matt Groening says
This leads me to believe that the trailer is just trying to make this look like a major summer blockbuster with all of the end of the world stuff. It is all probably part of their crazy marketing scheme. It wouldn't surprise me if we know nothing of the plot and the only thing in the movie is the pig and the scene where they show a bunch of characters...

I'm a huge simpsons fan. I will be defently seeing this movie. It should be good but it will be a classic like the south park the movie maybe. If it was made like 12 years during their prime. It would had more of chance of being all time classic.

There are too many genius Simpsons episodes to name. At its best, the show is completely hilarious, and very sharp and satirical, which gets overlooked by a lot of people.
Quality-wise, The Simpsons has been pretty rocky for at least the past six years. Actually, I was watching a recent episode and was frankly shocked at how fucking bad it was. It was virtually unwatchable. The humor was all random bullshit more remincisent of Family Guy, except not as clever (and I'm not a huge Family Guy fan).
But some of the characters are classic. This is HOMER SIMPSON people. I'm definitely going to see the film..They've brought back many writers from the show's history, and that without a doubt comes as good news. This has been 20 years in the making - I really hope they don't screw it up.
Have some faith people.

Ten years ago I would have been incredibly stoked about a Simpsons movie. But now, with Groening and Co having produced only a handful of watchable episodes since the turn of the millenium, it's hard to get excited about the prospect of 90 more minutes of the same recycled bunk. Watching "The Simpsons" these days is like cleaning out the fridge and discovering the leftovers of what was once a really great meal but is now moldy, crusty, dried-up, and wholly inedible.
The entire concept of THE SIMPSONS MOVIE is at this point pretty abhorrent simply because the thing that has utterly destroyed the quality of the show over time has been the movement away from well-written character comedy and clever satire and a heavy reliance on zany hijinx, self-concious metajokes, and even sometimes cheap grossout humor. In the early years, Matt Groening said he was never going to have the Simpsons do anything that a real non-animated TV family wouldn't. Anyone who has suffered through a modern Simpsons episode knows perfectly well that that plan has been taken out into the woods and shot, then shot again, then bashed over the head with the empty rifle, then run through the wood-chipper FARGO-style, then urinated upon, mixed with grain, and fed to hogs. When producing a feature picture, the instinct for the writers is clearly going to be to indulge even more in bizarre, over-the-top antics and non-sensical goofiness. I mean, really, what goofball "epic"-scale story have they not done yet? The Simpsons go to Mars? Homer is elected President? Hey, has anyone had an evil twin yet? We can stretch that out into 90 minutes, right?

Isn't it a possibility that the movie will hearken back to the irony and satire of earlier seasons? I refuse to believe that every creative outlet has been exhuasted and there are no decent stories left, especially for a movie that rightfully should be a labor of love given how many years it's been in the making.
I agree with a lot of your concerns, and maybe I'm a bit naive in thinking that The Simpsons that I loved growing up is not completely dead... but I'm hoping to see some of that in this movie.

I wouldn't like to believe that either, but the last five or six seasons sure do make that seem like a keen possibility. Especially when you look at the trailer and see that it's a whole lot of "CRAZY HUGE-SCALE WACKINESS! HOMER HAS DONE SOMETHING BAD AND HAS TO SAVE US ALL BY FLYING THROUGH THE AIR ON A WRECKING BALL AND DRIVING A GOLF CART THROUGH AN EXPLOSION AND LOTS OF OTHER KOOKY STUFF!!!"
Well, alright, the "Spider-Pig" thing was funny, but that was only 30 seconds long.

this was alot better then i thought it would be.since i haven`t seen the show for awhile.
but they really got to use more adult humour like homer doing the fingers and a certain characters private parts are seen which as ralph say"i like men now".
but its a crazy wacky story .with homer and his pet pig "lets kiss to break the tension(you`ll know what that means when you see the movie)" called potty (i think that was the pigs name) getting the movie going.
also a nice cameo from a big movie star but i won`t say who.also stay during the credits with a little something else.

Well I just got back from one of my two most anticipated films in movie history (the other being FREDDY vs JASON). When I found out my local theatre was actually showing a midnight screening I BOOKED!
They were showing the movie in three theatres and the one was already sold out and I got there more than an hour early! My theatre was also very packed. Someone arrived dressed up as Duff Man also.
When the movie finally began it was just surreal. After following the show for the past 18 years it just never seemed like I would get to see this family on the big screen and after ten years of rumors it was weird to see the moment finally happen.
All in all the movie was exactly what I expected. A zany adventure with a lot of laughs and fun times. The audience really enjoyed it. It's hard to rate it though because I feel I probably need to see it another couple of times but I think it deserves at least a 9/10.

Just got back from the midnight showing. I am a pretty big Simpson fan, but to be honest, i havent watched it very much in the last 5 years or so. I catch a new episode every once and a while, but it's always nothing too special. Well, I'm glad to say that this movie was insanely good. It actually had heart, which IMO is the reason why the Simpsons hasn't been that great in years.
Let me tell you guys though. This is a great movie altogether. I am still smiling. Everything I wanted in a Simpsons movie. There are some killer jokes that had me laughing for a while. It had a good story, and even some touching scenes. The audience I saw it with loved it. The credits were awesome as well.
Anyway, hands down, this is my favorite movie of the summer. I enjoyed the hell out of it. It made me laugh out loud numerous times. It might be the funniest movie I've seen all year ( I cant remember anything else being as witty)
One little gripe I had was that some of the shows most popular characters didn't have a speaking part (Principal Skinner, Willie), while other character moments almost made up for that ten fold with some great lines and gags (Crazy Cat Lady, Ralph, Otto, Moe, Comic Book Guy). Other than that, this was pretty spectacular. I haven't had a better time at a theater this year.
Overall, I loved it. 9.5/10:D
Oh, I didn't get The Dark Knight trailer either. I told my 5 friends who went with me about it. They were super excited, then they turned on me once the movie began. It never came. IT NEVER CAME!!!

There was only one thing that disappointed me about my screening of The Simpsons Movie, and that was the non-existent teaser for The Dark Knight. Well, make that two things, since they instead showed the teaser for Alvin and the Chipmunks. (Truth be told, the film might be even worse than the poster made it look.)
The actual Simpsons Movie, however, was as glorious as I had hoped it would be. OK, well maybe not glorious, but pretty damn satisfying. Considering that the show is now basically sucking out oxygen from its completely dry well, that's a feat I really didn't expect would be accomplished. I've never been more happy to be proven wrong.
The laughs here were mile-a-minute, with the show consistently going back to its roots. You know, when it was actually funny. And had social relevance. And was more than just 22 minutes of wacky/painful things happening to Homer. Although you can be rest assured, that does happen as well. Often.
In terms of storyline, the only person whose subplot felt completely extraneous was Lisa's. Her chunk of the film serves good purpose early on, as it sets up the story nicely, but the involvement of the Irish boy was meaningless.
Everything else is basically just stuff we've seen before, but that's bound to happen when you have close to 20 years of material used up. Luckily, the material they chose to recycle is mostly gold, and it's executed in a much more cinematic way. Especially satisfying were the constant in-jokes and references toward the TV show, which help give the movie a winking charm that always lets the audience know the leap from the small to the big screen isn't drastic enough to destroy what makes the show great. Or at least, what used to make it great. And while that greatness may have disappeared ten years ago, The Simpsons Movie brings it back once more for all fans to enjoy.

I loved it, and I'm one of those who find the newer shows to be inferior to the classic first 6 or 7 seasons. The film had plenty of good chuckles as well as good hearty laughs, not to mention heart. The scene where
*spoilers*
Marge leaves Homer, taping over their wedding video to do so

is actually heartbreaking for a longtime Simpsons fan. Anyway, in the end, Groening and Co. reallly knocked this one out of the ballpark. Can't wait to see it again. :)

I told my friends "if the crazy cat lady is in this, I'm going to flip out". Sure enough maybe 5 min later, she showed up, and I freaked. I yelled a loud "YESSSSSS!" and clapped. The audience I saw it with was great. So much laughter and a huge applause at the end that I've never seen before in a movie theater.
Also loved the "Yes, fox even promotes their crappy tv shows in movies!" As well as the "To be continued..........Immediately". I thought that was brilliant.

As disappointed as I was that the Dark Knight teaser did not show up (had to settle for the Chipmunk one), I still had a good time watching this flick. I've never been much of a fan of the show; I've watched a few episodes, laughed, and then never bothered to try watching again the following week, but I always found the show funny and have always been impressed at the amount of characters one person does the voices for. So I went and saw the movie.
The movie finds the titular characters pissing off the entire town of Springfield and having to run for their very lives. Then they have to come back and save the town from annihilation. Wackiness, Homer flipping the bird, Bart skateboarding naked, and Maggie saving the aforementioned characters ensue. There are plenty of laughs, some tender moments that seemed to be there for hell's sake, and it appears that every Simpsons character makes an appearance - again, I'm not a regular viewer of the show, but there were a lot of "recognizable" faces.
After all was said and done, the movie did seem like a 90 minute episode of "The Simpsons," but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There's a reason the show has been on so long. It's very funny, there is a coherent storyline throughout, and enough to make any new or longtime fan of the show appreciate the effort that went into it.

The Dark Knight trailer was crap. They showed nothing. It was just a little dialogue between Christian Bale and Michael Caine (no one shown, just voice overs) and the screen slowly forms the Batman symbol. Then Joker talks for a bit (I'm not sure I like the voice Heath Ledger is using, but he only said a sentence so I can't judge). But no one is ever shown. The only thing you see is the Bat symbol.
As for the Simpsons movie, being a fan of the show, I loved it. It's really all you could ask for in a movie based on the Simpsons. Smart humor, stupid humor, good parts of the side characters (minor, but some great lines), well paced, consistently funny throughout, and enough minor inside jokes to make true fans roll over laughing (like the part on Springfield Gorge... priceless). 9/10

First of all it's really funny. Defently re-watch to catch all the inside jokes. solid animation and the usual great voice work from the cast. It's clever and smart. It need more stuff from the minor characters like Willie.

I enjoyed the movie but I don't think it's as good as everyone is saying it is. Personally, I thought the one hour season finale of The Simpsons this season was funnier. This was like the equivalent of a decent episode but definitely not on par with a great Simpsons episode.
Even at just a meager 88 minutes, the movie still felt a little long. And yet, paradoxically, the movie also felt kind of rushed. I don't know, I think Homer's "epiphany" happened a little too fast. The whole Alaska scene felt rushed.
Still, it was pretty funny and I was entertained. Not great but an enjoyabe hour and a half.

Its good, thankfully. The jokes are funny and non stop, and its touching like the best Simpsons episodes. The animation is great, and the voice work is as good as ever. But, the satire is just tired and oh-so-obvious. I rolled my eyes a few times, surely the writers could've done better. And as non-stop as the jokes were, I wish the plot had more room to breathe. It went by so fast I felt as if the revelations and developments were unfounded. Plus, the big breasted Eskimo woman/Homer's epiphany was just dumb.
I sound like I'm being negative, but I really did enjoy it. Like I said, it was a fast, funny, and enjoyable ride. It just could've been better. And yet, its still better than most recent episodes.

If you missed the funny Simpsons, see this movie. It was excellent. Not my favorite movie of the summer, Knocked Up, but it would be very close. I went with about 7 other people, and we all enjoyed it. My one friend said he still watched the show, but didn't like it as much, but said the movie was very old school Simpsons.
The theater was packed also. About 5 minutes in and people were still coming in. Go see this movie.

If you have ever enjoyed an episode of The Simpsons in your life, see this movie.
Simply too many funny moments to count, some really sharp writing and in many ways a return to the irreverent satire that we have been missing for many seasons of the show.
Hilarious and good-natured, I can't wait to see it again. It was a great night for my childhood.

Speaking as someone who doesn't really make the time to watch the show anymore, I thought the movie was decent. However, I tried to go into the movie with low expectations, which helped. I still carried high expectations, though. It was better than any Family Guy movie would be, but I think it could have been better. I don't feel the urge to see the movie again (in a theater, at least). Next time (if there ever is a next time), bring Conan back to help.

Some spoilers
This was awesome. Their was actually a central plot like the classic seasons instead of The Family Guy inspired no plot crap they've been churning out for the past 7 or so years. First half hour was brilliant with pretty much non stop laughs. The Fox gag was gold, as was Ralph's line. It lost a little luster, but the laughs still kept coming. Only big flaw is that I wanted more of the secondary characters. I don't think Groundskeeper Willie or Principal Skinner had one line. I was kind of hoping for some more swearing, but heh we got some great moments nonetheless. Plus their wasn't that many celebrity cameos, no one broke into song, and the commercials showed all the lame parts like Spider-Pig. Everyone should see this, even if you hate the Simpsons of today. It even had a very poignant moment where Marge tapes over her wedding video. I almost had a tear roll down the cheek during that part.

to save some time I'm just going to copy and paste my thoughts from my account on anime-forums.com
" All you really need is to read is this first part because after that I go into a little more, being a huge simpson's fan.
it was a lot more good than bad, it looks really good escpecially after being on the tv screen for 18 years. If your a fan of the show and have seen many of the episodes there are a number of in show jokes you'll see. the only real problem is that after such a long time of being on the tv and the popularity of the show it doesn't seem as if as much effort could have been in, it's clear the creators had a fun time just making the scope of the movie huge. Maybe some have 10$ to see movies and enjoy going, if so i think you won't mind spending the money to see it, it's good but still much to be left had. I'm a big fan, but if you just watch it on and off I think you'll like it a lot more.
*** stars
GOOD:
*** plenty of in show jokes
*** the story and size of the movie is huge, which is perfect for the show
*** There's a scene quite moving, I won't lie it was pretty sad showing the series isn't just all laughs.
*** It has some jokes that some won't get because you just kind of have to know a few events in history class pretty well I'll say this much (kennedy, lots of eyes)
*** there are just some funny moments, plain and simple, try not to watch any clips, I don't want to give any away.
BAD:
With so many years of rumors and ideas for the movie it felt like they only trully worked on it for less than a couple years, all the years of talk they did have a lot of time to really do some awesome halariousness. It didn't feel like the classic episodes of the show.
It gets kind of tierdsome after a little while, Dan Castellenta (voice of homer) makes homers yells and screams of pain amusing to 5 year olds, it just becomes the same.
I know it's an animated film but it did seem to fly by, it could have been longer.
All set aside it's still a good movie but I would still rent it and if you really like it for 10 dollars more you can re watch it as many times as you like. it didn't really make all the money worth it. But again I'm not made of as much money as others. Between hairspray and captivity and all the other crap out there, this does feel a lot better. And then there was the south park movie which was brilliant but the simpsons will always be far better than that show and i think there was a lot to be had, but this is coming from a big simpsons fan, i think you'll like it.
phew"

I can't say this movie is great...but i reallly enjoyed it, and definatly better of what ive seen of some of the newer eps...like alot of other schmoes iv'e half tuned out the past few seasons. I couldn't get why that new irish guy was there...and he could only remind me of that ther smart kid in the South Park movie. There were a few other movie similarities i could make with the Beavis and Butt-head movie, but i wont.
From ralph's "trumpeting" at the start, you'l be sucked in to this flick for sure...it's the simpsons dammmit!
The humour in this although clearly not in Simpsons prime, is still funny and while may not always make you laugh out loud, will bring a smile to your face. It was consistent throughout the whole film and i didn't think there were some bits overly good then others totally bad. All the little series nods i had to love to. And yeah, the video bit with Marge definatly pulls on the emotional strings...fictional or not, this is a family that has been through it all TOGETHER, and to see it seriously shaken up was quite hard to watch.
Also, in Australia this movie is rated PG....For the amount of gay jokes/sex jokes and what not, i think the only reason they got away is because it is The Simpsons, and it is the greatest reflection of our society and it's beliefs (well the earlier seasons more i guess) that we have. BUT for a PG movie i was quite shocked to see Otto smoking a bong!!!!
ps WHERE was Shelbyville!!! They even mention what surrounds springfield and what - no mention of Shelbyville!!! not ONE hint!!

There's no science when it comes to The Simpson's.If you have watched it over the past 20 years since their debut on The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987,you know all the basics. The fact that a movie has been made and that a ultra famous, Oscar nominated actor makes a cameo, shows what heights this show has reached.
You have to love a movie, that pokes fun at us,the studio behind it and itself. Its a very funny film.Though things start to get a bit dull towards the end.Scale of 1-10 an 8 Make sure you stick around during and after the credits.

LOVED this movie.
Like many others, I used to be a huge Simpsons fan, but my interest has waned in the last 5-10 years or so. Family Guy basically took over. But this movie really made me feel good about the whole franchise again. I was smiling/laughing from start to finish. I think I enjoyed it more now than I did many years ago when the show was at it's peak, imo.
Favourite parts:
***SPOILERS, DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET***
* Not sure if this quote is 100% accurate, but... "Spider-pig, Spider-pig... Does whatever a spider-pig can... Can he spin, a spider web... No he can't, he's a pig."
* The horrified expression on the animals' faces after the whole Cinderella spoof thing... LMAO!!! That was CLASSIC! First you have the innocence of all the animals helping out, and then they end it like that. I'm cracking up right now thinking of that scene. :D
* The big nude scene... Didn't expect that. Then Ralph's "I like men now" line.
* Upon hearing the news of the impending doom, all the church people run to the bar, and all the bar patrons run to the church.
* Again, not sure if this quote is 100% but... "Smithers, I've never considered committing suicide before, but if you wanted to, I might find it amusing."
* "I'm the son of a rock star in Ireland. It's not Bono." "I just thought since you were from Ireland..." "IT'S NOT BONO!"
* "There's something strange about that 'SOP' sign." And then a bit later, "We can't stop for every 'SOP', 'YELD', and 'whatever' sign we see along the way. (I forget what the third one was, but I remember it was pretty funny.)
* "Bye everybody"
Those are only the ones I remember now, but there were probably about a dozen more laugh out loud moments for me.
The only negatives I can think of were that a few of things have been done before:
- Homer falling in love with a pig is like when he fell in love with the lobster a few seasons back.
- Bart potentially becoming a Flanders was basically done in the episode where the Flanders become foster parents for the Simpsons kids.
And also, continuity wise, unless I'm missing something, there never was a wedding video for Homer and Marge. They got married at "Shotgun Pete's" I believe. "Do you, *click*, Homer take, *pop*, Marge to be your lawfully wedded wife... Here's twenty dollars worth of chips, I now pronounce you man and wife."
All in all, though. I was VERY pleased.
I'll be buying this on DVD for sure.

ToRontoRon, you named some great bits.... here were a few more of my favorites:
******** SPOILERS (if you consider giving away the funny parts spoilers. I do). ********
Lou: Hey Chief, I think there's a dead body in that carpet!
Wiggum: I thought so too Lou, until he said it was lawn trimmings.... you gotta listen, Lou.
When Homer gives the finger to the townspeople going down the sinkhole and when they all start clawing his head.
The wire tapping scene. The conversations being overheard were hilarious. And then, "Yes! We found something! The government found something we were actually looking for!" (or something to that effect)
When Homer suddenly throws the native woman off him after his epiphany.
Hans Zimmer's orchestral Spider Pig song... loved it.
Homer: "Oh, it could be someone else's silo full of pig crap!"
(the silo floats around and we see PROPERTY OF HOMER SIMPSON. IF FOUND PLEASE RETURN. NO REWARD written on the back)
And plenty more, it's going to require another viewing.
Overall I thought they did a prenty good job of incorporating a lot of the characters... Milhouse, Nelson, Wiggum, Moe, Barney, Comic Book Guy all had funny little bits. My big disappointment was very little of Burns and Smithers, but at least they threw in that scene in the credits.

Having read some very solid reviews and given my own enjoyment of the TV show, I saw The Simpsons Movie yesterday. Having thought over it for a day, I can say with a great degree of certainty that this was the 2nd best movie of the summer (so far, the Bourne Ultimatum may change that), just behind Ratatouille and ahead of Sicko. It kept the humor and intelligence of the TV show, and were this an actual TV episode, i would consider it one of the best. The only bad thing was some of the trailers I had to sit through prior to the movie, namely "Alvin and the chipmunks". i shielded my eyes for most of that to avoid permanent blindness. Compensating for that was the teaser for The Dark Knight (definitely one of the most enticing trailers I've seen). Oh, and the "Spider-pig" song is a riot and I found myself singing it too.

Well, I dunno what movie everyone else saw, but I left the theatre pretty unimpressed. All of the things that have been wrong with the show for the last few years were prevalent in THE SIMPSONS MOVIE: Plot drift, jerk-ass Homer, exagerrated zaniness, lame new characters (what was UP with the eskimo woman?), general nonsensicality, and constant recycling of past stories. Many of the elements of the script, Springfield's environmental disaster, Bart bonding with Flanders, Homer adopting an odd pet (helper monkey, lobster, now pig), the Simpsons being forced to flee town, were grifted straight off of old episodes. The satirical element was there, but most of the shots were pretty easy and lacked the edge and creativity of the show's halcyon years (the NSA scene is a primary example of this). I actually find myself being made uncomfortable by some of the earlier scenes; while Homer's neglectful parenting is a long-standing cornerstone of the series, the movie pushes this to a level that was sort of disturbing, his oblivousness to the pain and suffering he inflicts on his children crossing the line from humorous to offensive. Of course, at the end of the film he goes out of his way to redeem himself, but how many times have we seen that? Homer gets the same epiphany here ("Your family is important,") that he's gotten over and over again during the last 18 years. The "ticking clock" third act could have been pulled right out of a handbook of screenwriting cliches (if such a thing existed. ...does it?).
All of this might have been forgivable is THE SIMPSONS MOVIE were funny, but for the most part I found the gags fairly flat. I won't say I didn't laugh, but I would put the ratio at about 1 in 6, with only a few really good ones (none of which spring to mind as I write this). Ah well, at least it had Comic Book Guy.

Yes, the Simpsons Movie was no more than a Simpsons episode that was stretched to just under 90 minutes. Yes, the gags and plot seemed as if they could have been lifted from earlier scripts. But, what did you expect!?!
They brought together the same writers they have been using for the past 18 years (minus 2, of course). So, it was inevitable that they would recycle gags and characters. But, the thing about it is...it worked. It was funny. There's no harm in doing what you know, especially if it means you can do it right. Plus, they didn't take themselves seriously and neither should those of us watching the film.
To those who complained about Homer's reckless and negligent parenting and his constant epiphanies (and susequent forgetfullness) about the importance of loyalty, friendship, and family should realize this is satire; cartoon satire at that. Liberties will be taken - and taken to the extreme. If you don't like it, that's fine. No one will blame you. But, for the rest of us, its funny. And so was this movie.
This movie isn't the Simpsons from the last 7 or 8 years. This is the Simpsons as we remember them at the height of their fame. The writers went back to their solid methods, and they pulled it off.

The Simpsons Movie - 9/10
I had high expectations, with all the great reviews and buzz surrounding the film. In the end this film actually exceeded my expectations! It's not laugh out loud funny, but it is non-stop funny. I laughed pretty much every 20 seconds. So many new, fresh and original jokes, that I have no idea how the filmmakers could come up with after 20 seasons of The Simpsons. All of the characters are back and although some have limited screentime, every character delivers a laugh at some point. And the thing I loved most about it, is that it actually felt like a movie. Some TV adaptations just feel like a prolonged, crappy episode of the show. It felt like the show with all the humour, but the plot exceeded any episode of The Simpsons that I have seen. If you have not seen this yet, and like The Simpsons even the slightest, this is a MUST SEE! Such a good time at the movies. And oh, THE ANIMATION IS ABSOLUTELY FUCKING GREAT!

The Simpsons Movie (David Silverman, 2007) - Fantastic! I was so prepared to be disappointed, to see the movie not live up to my expectations and fall flat on its face, and yet... this delivered and MORE than delivered! It has everything that made the show good, and some wonderful jokes as well, but what makes it all the more worthwhile is how it improves on the show. As mentioned many times before, many TV-to-movie adaptations feel like long episodes of the show. The Simpsons Movie takes care to make sure that some form or other of plot is prominent throughout its runtime, there iS a dramatic arc, and most importantly, the animation has vastly improved while remaining that distinctive Simpsons look. It's hilarious, it's crass and sarcastic and offensive (occasionally), it looks great, and it's even very surprisingly and sincerely touching. And Hans Zimmer is the man, although I was kind of disappointed that the producers didn't get Danny Elfman for the job. Lived up to my expectations, which is what's most important. Now if only the series would get back on track and back to high quality like this film.
RATING: 8/10.

Supposedly Spider-Pig will be making an appearance in Season 19. Although the character was overused to death in the commercials, I quite enjoyed it in the actual movie.

Ha ha. That would actually be pretty cool if they ended up crossing him over into the series and HOMER wound up keeping him as a pet for good. In fact between Santa's Little Helper, Snowball, and Harry Plopper they could have a nice PETA themed episode. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

As a huge fan of the tv show, I was really disappointed with the movie. I was hoping for something more --- like with the South Park movie --- but basically got a two-hour-long episode with the same gags that we've seen a million times before.
The only time I actually laughed was at the end, when Bart is reunited with Santa's Little Helper, who talks about having "to do things no dog should ever have to do". I couldn't stop chuckling at that scene.
However, it seems this movie was made just to generate a quick buck and had nothing new to say about TV's most famous family.

I just saw it today. It was a good movie, and a fun experience in general. I had a feeling it would be one of those movies that would be filled with all kinds of treats if you stayed during the credits, and I sure was right. Actually, some of the biggest laughs from me came from the credits: "A lot of people worked hard on this movie, and you owe it to them to memorize all of their names!", and "Assistant manager isn't all it's cracked up to be....I spent 4 years in film school for this?" Funny stuff!
Speaking of which, I noticed that Maurice Lemarche was given a "Special Thanks" at the end of the credits....I didn't hear his voice in the movie, or see his name anywhere else...does anyone know why they'd thank him?
Anyway, an enjoyable movie that's worth seeing in the theatre, instead of waiting for DVD.

I saw it for the second time today and probably found it more entertaining this time around. Just so many great films. The robot who blows his brains out because of all the pressure is a classic moment that I forgot about. It will be interesting to see if they decide to carry anything over from the movie into next season. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

A really good effort I thought. The first 20 minutes were hillarious.
Funniest line:
(When Grampa was having his fit in the Church Homer is flipping through the bible.)
Homer: Oooh...... There's no answers in here.

I enjoyed the film quite a bit, actually much, much more than I expected. I've been a long fan of the show, and like others felt it has been running on fumes for quite sometime; this was all the reason the movie really struck with me. As many others have said, it played out like a really well written episode for me.
The first 20 minutes were hillarious, but to me, the climax was just fantastic - it reminded me of the build up and payoff the episodes "Bart's Comet" and the one where Homer goes on disability.
Overall, I'll be owning this sometime in the future - probably like other films, bargin bin DVD prices are a big purchase for me.
