I think it's kind of cool that the studio cast a relatively un-know actor for the role, I'll hold must judgment until I see the first pics/teaser. But from the looks of it they could have done worse.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that ever since Thomas Jane left the movie, they decided to make it straight to dvd or something like that.

I'm glad Thomas Jane left. Not that I think he is a bad actor, on the contrary he was the best thing about the first, Marvel just kept stalling production on this and he had to stay in top shape for months without any notice of when it was going to shoot. The script I hear is alot better than the first (which might not say much). I really don't care much at this point.

I agree, I still prefer the one with Dolph Lundgren which was shot at LUNA PARK (SYDNEY), hope the next one will be better.

Ray Stevenson fucking owns on ROME (great show by the way). I'm glad to see him getting more exposure, he surely deserves it. Great casting choice by the producers.

I never read the comics, so I can't compare the Thomas Jane movie to them. But as a stand alone, I thought it was pretty decent and entertaining.

the above head shot doesnt convince me, but the pics of him from Rome do. good casting. I thought the first movie with the exception of a few things (travolta, Tampa being the setting, the fat guy and the pericing guy, the flaming skull at the end) The punisher deserves a better movie than he got though. do it right this time. this is step in the right direction i think

Go rent the first season of Rome on DVD. Ray Stevenson fucking owns. He's such a badass in the show.

On a side note, Kevin McKidd (Vorenus) is in the upcoming movie The Last Legion. Glad to see these guys getting roles. The guy that played Brutus was in Casino Royal I think. James Purefoy(Antony) has been in a few movies and is in a few upcoming films I think.

Some other great actors in that show were the young Octavian, Attia, and Tyman the Jew. Hope they get some roles in some decent films.

past punishers have had success. Jane still gets some good roles. and look at Dolph Lundgren, that man can barely walk down the street without getting mobbed by teenagers. this could b a good move for him.

I always thought Thomas Jane was a too pretty to be The Punisher. I want someone a little more knarly and tore up looking, so I think this is a good casting choice. Even if it's straight to DVD I'll watch it, but I hope it gets better treatment than that.

I can't help but feel the same way. I don't think any one will be beating down his door for roles but on the other hand I respect him for his courage. I don't think one film will affect anything. Punisher 2 might suffer from bad writing, bad directing, bad effects, but Stevenson may shine as an actor.

I'm not a huge film buff, so can someone name any actor who had a promising career ahead of them and then never got any more decent roles because of a single film?

It all means jack anyway. The original choice for Jigsaw dropped out, then they offerered it to me. I'm very dubious because the other films looked shite. Then whoever is responsible said that their original choice has decided to do it, therefore pulling my offer. The only blessing was that I didn't waste an hour of my life reading the script. That be the way of the film world. And for the record, I thought GREEN STREET was a gigantic mess. Lucky escape.
