Liverpudlian dock worker Jude (Jim Sturgess) travels to America in the 1960s to find his estranged father. There he falls in love with sheltered American teenager Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood). When her brother Max (Joe Anderson) is drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, they become involved in peace activism.

This movie looks like the most beautiful and orignal movie I've seen all year...

It looks really good. When's the release date?

September 28th.

I'm looking forward to this, though I'm a little worried about the whole Joe Roth recutting it debacle. Actually, I'm a little worried that he's got anything to do with this at all, as I don't think he's ever had any involvement in a single movie that wasn't a huge piece of shit.

A) I think it looks very presumptuous, ORIGINAL, EXHILARATING, SPECTACULAR, GROUNDBREAKING, GET OVER YOURSELF, PLEASE.

B) The Beatles covers sound terrible.

C) Evan Rachel Wood is a pretty terrible actress.

D) I'm willing to give anything with a talented director behind it a chance, but not until DVD for this one.

What the hell? I don't see how you could possibly come to that conclusion. She's been excellent in everything from THIRTEEN to PRETTY PERSUASION to THE MISSING to DOWN IN THE VALLEY. Hell, she was even good in Green Day's WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS music video.

I think this movie looks really good, if not sort of pretentious. Definitely my most anticipated film of the Fall season right now.

YAY, my new best friend. :p

You forgot: THE MOVIE OF THE YEAR.

And who says anything about a talented director at the helm (we're not talking about the same "Frida", are we? ;)).

One thing though, I probably wouldn't call ERW a terrible actress. Wouldn't call her a great one, but I have no problems with her.

I enjoyed Titus (kind of); the blatancy of her visual style is very offputting in large doses, but I do think she has potential as a filmmaker.

Evan Rachel Wood also has potential, she just hasn't impressed me at all yet, hell, Backstabba might not believe me from my constant ramblings, but as far as actresses in her age group goes, there isn't anyone better then Ellen Page, and I bring her up because you can see that both ERW and EP are choosing largely various and unique movies, and one of them is succeeding, and it's not Evan Rachel Wood.

Like I said, I'll rent it, but I think on the face, it looks like a pretty pretentious and terrible movie.

I haven't seen TItus actually.

And I agree on both counts: ERW has potential and Ellen Page is better.

Also, it definitely looks incredibly pretentious.

I hate the presumptuous "greatest experience" sell, but the visuals look great, and I think ERW is really good (it also helps that I like Page, too :D ). Yeah, naming the lead character Jude (na na na na...) was a bit much, but I'll take it more as a visual feast. Taymor's direction of Titus really brought a creaky story from out of the ashes and gave cannibalism a chromatic effect.
