This is mainly about the whole Harry Potter spoiling craze, just to make that clear. And I'll be very careful, not mentioning any spoilers, so it's completely safe.

YTMND is the main reason for this. I remember about two years ago, I was surfing the site, looked at the top 20, and low and behold, about 10 of those 20 sites spoiled the ending for The Half Blood Prince.

And damnit, that sucked. Did I still enjoy the book? Of course, I loved the book. But that ending would've blown me away, yet some people decided to spoil it.

Now the Deathly Hallows comes out. And EVERYONE who got this book has either locked themselves inside to avoid spoilers or finished the book the weekend it was released so no one got the chance. But SOME people were unlucky enough to pick it up at midnight.

Suddenly I hear stories about drive-by spoilers, people wearing shirts that spoil the ending, etc. Why spoil the ending? Some people have been waiting 10 YEARS for this book, and yet they want to spoil it.

The main thing that got me angry was the video on ebaumsworld.com where some kids went to stores at midnight and spoiled the ending to crowds of people. It's probably one of the only videos ebaumsworld has actually made themselves and not stolen, and that proves why it's so pathetic.

It's basically like this.

GUY: Attention shoppers!
SHOPPERS: YAAYYY!!!
GUY: ......________ KILLS _______! ________ AND ________ DIE AND _________!!!!!!!!
GUYS RUN AWAY AS CROWD DOES NOTHING
GUY: HAHAHAHA! EBAUMSWORLD.COM! EBAUMSWORLD.COM!
OTHER GUY: HAHAHA! EBAUMSWORLD.COM!

Now that wasn't funny (to me anyway), it wasn't clever (hence ebaum made it), it was just stupid. It was people spoiling the ending to a book millions of people have been waiting for. I was waiting for the part where a crowd of people stop these assholes from getting away, and then proceeded to murder them horribly, tearing them limb from limb for being such stupid, unfunny assholes. But that moment never came.

Of course some people will say "It's just a joke, get a life". Using the "Mencia approach", saying "you can't take a joke!"

I can take a joke.
I tell jokes about dead babies, you think I can't take a joke about spoiling a book?
If it was a GOOD joke, I'd laugh.
If it was a bunch of people being assholes, I'll say it was stupid as shit.

Why is it so appealing spoiling something for others?
"THEN THE KID CRIED!" that's rich!
"THE DAD GOT LIK RELLY PISSED AT ME!" funny!
"THEN SOMEONE STABBED ME." Fuck, I wish.

Don't like the book? Think it's stupid? Good for you. Express your opinion. It's a free country. But don't ruin the enjoyment of that book to people who DO like it!..

...Rant over!

I totally agree though I'm not a fan of the book I could see those people are I mean what assholes if your not gonna read the book that good for you but don't go spoil it for people who've been waiting for the book thats not funny at all Thats just being an ass, but yea that video got me really pissed its pathetic that they have to go and ruin it for other people because they think its funny. and to think people have been waiting for this book for years and tthe author Did very hard work so the book didn't get spoiled and these people go and ruin it

It's the same reason why school bullies exist. Some people get off on making others miserable. Really, they probably go home and masturbate while thinking about tripping people on the street.

Yeah, the Mencia approach is a total copout when confronted. You can call them on their multiple counts of douchiness and they can easily veil it with the "whaddya mean we were having a laugh don't you like laughing" approach.

Those eBaum kids would collapse under a confident, direct "Explain to me exactly why that is funny." Alas, the recipients were Harry Potter readers and performed passively as if tjhey were already entrenched in the book. It's amazing to just watch one utterly glued to the thing. You can be sitting outside, sirens blaring and whatnot and the Harry Potter reader does not adjust once. And their facial expressions never change..I mean if something funny is said in a book i cannot conceal a laugh, they just sit there hypnotized. Well, no, in packs any one of them eBaum spoiler folk could muster the courage to shrug you off. In any case you could probably perhaps segue into the famous Pesci speech in Goodfellas, without the violence because fighting over a children's book is like the apex in silliness.

Stop frequenting YTMND and your health will improve guaranteed.

Yeah so kids are always looking for any pithy way to make themselves appear cooler and more hipper to it than the person nearby. Uninspired, the non Harry Potter readers sensed an opportunity to inflect their coolness on a buncha, well, kids. And judging from their appearance on that dank hole they've been huge success wowee!

I completely agree with your rant. One of my friends completely hates Harry Potter and for some inexplicable reason takes pride everytime one of these spoilers is released and then when the word "Harry Potter" is mentioned regardless of where we are (public places, movie theaters, etc...) he will randomly shout "___ KILLS ___" and any other spoiler he's heard. It's quite fucking annoying. Even my other friends who hate Harry Potter as well say it's a dick move to do, but he doesn't care.

Pissing off Harry Potter fans is hilarious.
:D

No but seriously does anyone have a link to the kid spoiling the ending to everyone at the bookstore?

If the spoilers want to get clever, and I'd give credit where due, they could memorize the entire last page and spout it off like some scholar when around the legions. Like, instead of yelling it with that shiteating smile just tap an individual on the shoulder, "excuse me sir but" and then proceed to crap out when you memorized. It's not like Rowling's prose is hard to memorize; she's not going to surprise you with some sentence structured around a buncha commas.

I mean, I'd do the whole final page memorization bit for ammunition against Potter fans in case, say, one rearended me, kinda like "that was a red!" "no it was not!" "hey I heard Snape rapes Hermione" but it doesn't much seem the trouble given that the Potter fans will read the book within days.

Completely agree my friend, I personally also had the ending of the half blood prince ruined for me so this time around I made sure to stay away from the internet and anyone who had already read the book. Now that I'm done I can finally watch those videos and say "Damn, glad I wasn't there cause I would have whooped the shit out of that prick! I would go medieval or dark wizard on his ass." So yeah fuck those people who spoil the endings because they couldn't see the greatness of this series, fuck them right in the ear. If you don't like Harry Potter then why the hell bother going through all the trouble to ruin some of the book for the many different generations who read and enjoy them thoroughly.

People who spoil books for children are just lamenting their small and insignificant genitalia.

Bingo.
People reveling in the misery of others.
A counter culture of our society that needs to be pulled out into the middle of a field and doused with lye.

I'm not a Potter fan either(don't dislike it, just never have read it/watched the flicks because it's not my thing) but this is just stupid. Just reminds me of those losers who waited in line for days to get PS3's, Xbox 360's and Wiis, only to take them in front of the line of people waiting to get one and smash it right in front of them.

I'd like to offer them a piece of advice...you're 27 years old and mommy and daddy don't want you in their basement anymore. Move out and actually try to contribute something of value to society.

I love the virtriol in this thread...motherfuckers need to be taken from their parent's basement and into a field, depansed so we can all laugh at their small and insignificant genitalia, and doused with lye!

But what someone bought a Wii day of release and smashed it in front of the others? What reaction were they going for? The 500 or so dollars doesn't seem worth it (for them) if the others give them a meh and shrug them off. Was their a strong chance the people closer to the end would not receive their Wii? They'd get over seeing the gaming system smashed once they receive theirs in like a month but, man...that 500 won't magically reappear. I wish I had a link handy of that lady who bought the opening position of an iPhone line for 800 or so dollars so she could buy out the store's stock and sell them all on eBay for inordinate amounts. Turns out there was a one-per-customer restriction, so she exited with one, and the second-in-line, the kid she bought out, had enough cash to let his brother buy one. It was glorious; the lady seemed a typical self-righteous Helen Lovejoy-esque mother who demands rights where there are none to be distributd and all around expects accomodation. She was driving a giant SUV too, sweet sweet comeuppance!

Why spoil the ending of a movie or book for someone who's been waiting patiently for it?
What is it in someone that derives joy or pleasure from ruining something someone enjoys?
I, being a violent personality think a violent answer is needed.
Was it too violent to suggest a beating and then being assaulted with lye?
Maybe.
But considering I've had it happen to me after I spent hard earned money and I really was waiting patiently for the conclusion of a story, I'm biased.

If it's someone trying to make a statement, don't make it around me.
It's a sucky way to get your point across.

I don't understand this either epically doing it to complete strangers and kids.

In the case of harry potter, I personally don't care to read any of the books, is a dick move to ruin a book that these kids plan on reading. harry potter is getting kids to read and a 700 page book of that; not too many people I think have read a 700 page book unless they enjoy reading.

as for the whole deliberately spoiling endings for people, i don't understand the point of doing it unless you're a complete loser with nothing better to do. i don't think i've met someone who's done it deliberately

Someone should follow around the people who spoiled HP and spoil every movie the plan to see.

Spiderman 3? Tell them everything that happens
Matrix? ___ is the __
Pirates of the Caribbean? ___ is dead. ___ isn't really dead.

And so on.

I read the HP book on the opening week because I wanted to avoid spoilers. Just like I want to avoid spoilers for the big films that I love to watch.

The thing is, though, that even ift you know the spoilers to the HP book, it doesn't really change the fact that its a damn good book. There is more to the book than characters living or dying.

I mean--based on the evidence from the other books, a person that read the books closely enough would have been able to guess at least half of the "twists" that happened in the last book.

This reminds me of when Rosie O'Fatso had her own show and Fight Club came out. Fatpants was upset over the ending and decided to, on her show, to let the ending be known to everyone. The whole audience actually booed her and she looked at them in shock because she was surprised no one was on her side.

One of life's many truths: the few will often ruin it for the many.

i think i`m the odd one out.when it comes to buying a books i always read the last page flick through the pages behind.i hate reading a 600 whatever paged book only for the ending to suck.thats where it matters.

also with certain movies i like to know the ending as well.hate sitting through a 2 hour movie and the endings sucks.

was it paul newman that said "get their attention at the start and wow them at the end the rest is just fuller." or did i just make that up ?i can`t remember lol.

but i would never give away the dning if somebody didn`t know it ,its not cool and just plain mean
