Was it me? Or was the Dark Knight trailer a bit of a letdown despite the hype? I love Batman Begins, and have been looking forward to DK. And on word that there would be a DK teaser being released, I, like most of you, was so excited to see it! But, after finally seeing it, I felt a bit, disappointed. Love the dialogue between Bruce and Alfred. And the Joker sounds great. But, just seeing the batman logo with light shining through it and breaking off pieces of it?

They've only started filming, so you can't really expect them to have stuff edited together

I know what you mean in that we didn't really get much, but I personally was glad we didn't see any actual footage of the film.

'whatdoya expect? Ita a TEASER."

So. What. It doesnt give it therightto suck.

The teaser for Begins had lots of footage, and shots of Batman. The teaser for SM3 showed ALOT.

This was a waste of downloading time.

Granted the Begins trailer had more actual footage, but it was footage of just Bruce walking around and a lot of scenery shots. Nothing spectacular. This trailer we got to hear the Joker talk and most importantly his laugh. I'll take this everyday...

I haven't seen the DK teaser yet. But BB teaser/trailers were not all that great either, and we still ended up with a great film.

BB had footage in its teaser because for a long time the production was a secret. A large part of the population didn't know the franchise was being revived, and even during filming they had the fake title plastered over all the equipment. So they got to prepare a lot more footage to show audience when it was time to create buzz and anticipation.

NOW, anyone who loved BB knows TDK is coming and, if you've checked websites devoted to Batman and even our own Anticipation thread in Upcoming movies, people are on ANY piece of news like white on rice. We receive more information from unofficial, semi-official and official sources than the teaser. The teaser lasts less than a minute, but the news that has been collected and theorized and discussed at length has been going on for MONTHS.

So weigh it: Months vs 54 seconds.

Yeah, I understand the teaser can seem disappointing based on that. But the teaser is supposed to give us official MEDIA. Actual audio or visuals from the product we're going on and on about. Cause 98% of the time (so far) we're just talking or writing about shit we think is gonna happen, or is gonna rule or suck. Especially when it comes to Ledger, since for quite a long time after he was cast in the role, people didn't understand the decision and weren't sure he could pull it off.

TDk's trailer wasn't like BB, where its job was to make the public aware there was a Batman movie, but to add the other piece of the puzzle in the selling of Ledger as the Joker to the fans. Because before the teaser, we got the photo from the "I Believe In Harvey Dent" website, now we have what guys all over, including our own Anticipation thread, were saying they wanted: "Until I hear the laugh I'll reserve judgement". Well ya heard the laugh, now wait till December when they leave an even bigger breadcrumb.

This is such a strange (and wrong) arguement.

1) People knew they were filming Batman. Trust me. "The Intimidation Game" was the name usedduring filming, in part, because that the subtitle of an old Batman 5 script. Besides that, companies do this all the time - not to keep things secret from the press, but to keep things secret from those on the ground.

The Dark Knight, subsequently, has a production title of Rory's First Kiss. And yet, "everyone knows' they're filming Batman now.

2) Goyer and Nolan have both told the media that the point of every Batman Begins trailer was to deceive people into thinkingit WASNT a Batman film until thevery end. If you watch all the trailersagain, you'll see this is true.

I've heard the laugh. Its not enough.

wailst nothing will ever exheed the exhitment I felt for the 1989 batman, the idea of the dark knight coming to the screen, has me feeling almost as exhited as the year all I wore were batman shirts had a batman bedroom, only listen to prine and had a batman birthday cake.

Ummm, what?? That just seems wrong, why wouldn't they want people to know it was a Batman movie?

The whole reason we got more footage for Batman Begins was becuase they were trying to show the new directon that WB was taking with the character to the "average" person who really had no interest in the Batman franchise after Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.

Now that Batman Begins was so successful, it is unnecessary to show a lot of footage because there has already been a lot of press revolving around The Dark Knight ( countless web pages, TV shows, that morning show where that women straddled the Bat Pod).

What they needed to do was tease us and get some extra buzz started about the movie, and this they did beautifully.

I personally don't like Heath Ledger's voice. It sounds too low and just weird. Maybe Mark Hamill spoiled me. Other than that, it was cool.

Yes, really hardcore comic book and movie fans knew. General population: NO.

Go flag a random person on the street who actually saw Batman Begins and ask them where the title Intimidation Game is from.

And that last part is highly doubtful considering that when David Goyer was hired to start work on the screenplay, he had to lie to a comic book store cashier about why he was buying HUGE stacks of Batman comics, and the guy knew he was a screenwriter.

Yes, because the mainstream press is actually covering the progress of the film. Check out the Chicago newscast footage of the the crew filming Heath Ledger, in full Joker makeup and costume chatting it up with the crew, and then another shot of him chasing the Tumbler.

The press also reported the casting of Ledger as the Joker, and waaay before that, possible news that Katie Holmes was preparing to rejoin the cast.

Uh I have, yes the very beginning of the trailers may not look like a Batman film, but then at the end, you know its fucking Batman and not some general thriller for a reason: They have to build the anticipation for the general audience, not just the comic book fans. They can't be so obtuse that everyday joes scratch their heads and wonder "what was that?". That's a loss of momentum and therefore loss of money.

My original statement still stands.

I liked it. Of coarse I knew not to expect any actual footage of the movie a head of time so maybe that's part of why I wasn't disappointed. But I really liked the dialogue between Bruce and Alfred. The Joker's dialogue was cool too.

Overall, I thought it was very effective as a teaser.

I'm in a little agreement that the "teaser" was a slight disapointment. I'm basing this opnion only on the fact that we were told from a "reliable" source that the teaser itself would include at least a glimpse of the Joker. I had to say however, that this only a teaser, nothing more. It's entire purpose is to create buzz and wet whistles, it's not designed to reflect the film itself. My largest concern for the joker was the laugh, and judging from that small little sound bite they've hit the nail on the head and I can now allow myself to get completely psyched. I'd had to learn the hard way from all 3 of Lucas' prequels that hype and hope for upcoming films can many times lead only to heartbreak.

I don't care if the film is the year away they still could've shown something. Like Badbird this was a fucking sound clip. Hearing the Joker was cool but this teaser didn' excite me at all. Still can't wait to see it though.

The teaser did it's job. It teased us about the Joker, and left just enough intrigue to hold over for the next few months until another trailer comes out.

It's a teaser. Not a full blown trailer. Hearing Joker speak and laugh is good enough, and I'm very satisfied with it.

ListersParanoia

To be honest I was a little bummed by the "icon only" teaser, according to multiple web sources the teaser would contain at least a glimpse of the Joker. I was however very pleased with the menacing voice and the cackling laughter. I don't give a crap how "perfect" Heath looks in the role, it'll be his voice/laugh and mannerisms and make it or break it for me. Since the teaser release there have been many different spy shots of the Joker playing with his pocket watch and BSing with cast/crew so my thirst for a visual was quenched just after the teaser popped.
