I've heard that the main guys (Brooks, Groening, etc.) aren't interested, but I've also heard Fox has two other movies on contract. Can anyone confirm the latter? If there is going to be another one, I'd like to see Conan O'Brien make a comeback and Jean, Maxtone-Graham and Scully booted...but of course, that's a pipe dream.

When the cast did their contract renegotiations a year or two ago they signed on for two feature films as well. So there is a possibility of seeing the principle actors reunited for a second film especially since THE SIMPSONS MOVIE, with an opening weekend of $72 million, is already a success.
Swartzwelder must return of course. I doubt Conan would but of course I would love him to. Mike Scully should be kept away as well as writer Tim Long who in my opinion has written 2 or 3 of the worst episodes. Of course the duos of Al Jean and Mike Reiss and Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein would be solid additions. Another man I would like to see return would be former executive producer David Mirkin who I found pretty hilarious on the dvd commentaries. Daniel Chun, although new to the series, also seems like a worthy addition.
Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Conan wanted to work on the movie, but was left out (by who, I don't know).
If you watch the credits to the movie, you see that a sequel is not that farfetched.

I would LOVE to see Conan write a Simpsons movie.

After an opening weekend like that you better expect a sequel. But now other animated tv shows will look at this as a door opener for them. I'm looking at you Family Guy....

If you're referring to that article in EW that was posted here on Joblo that was just a joke. I thought that was the case too but after reading the entire article I could see that his quote was taken out of context and he was clearly being sarcastic.
As for other films taking a cue? I have already heard rumors of a big screen Family Guy film. AGH...

I would see it, but wouldn't lose sleep over it not happening. The movie was great, better than I predicted it would be. Lets leave it at that.

They would need to take their time with it if they made another one. I'm not saying another 18 years, but at least a 3 year wait. Then again Harry Shearer ain't getting any younger... Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I don't think Groening has anything to do with the decision. The execs at Fox decide if and when the series will get the axe and as long as it continues to pull in solid ratings (which it DOES despite not having been in it's prime for 8 years now) they will most likely leave it running. Groening will just go along to help out with the show until that time comes. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I don't think any possible sequels rely on the success of the TV show. The movie didn't. I think the sequels rely on the success of the movie, and from the looks of it, the movie's doing better than okay. I wouldn't be suprised if we see the end of the show and some more movies come our way. Or if the show continues and we see more movies.

The totals aren't in for today yet but it looks as though THE SIMPSONS MOVIE has eclipsed the $100 million mark. Doing that in less than a weeks time? Yep. I'd say that is a sure fire reason to expect a sequel. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.
