Are you guys excited for THE SCORPION KING? I used to think it look very stupid, but it could be a fun "Conan-like" film. It seems to be a good action adventure film. I don't expect it to be serious or anything. I just want to see a lot of action and The Rock kicking serious ass. If that is what it delivers, I am jazzed for this movie. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I didn't care a month ago, I don't care now. I still adamantly say that this movie will reek.

I am a wrestling fan, and I'm not afraid to admit it. While The Rock is not one of my favorite wrestlers, I still think it looks like an enetertaining movie. Note, I didn't say a "good" movie. It looks like an enjoyable popcorn movie, and I'll probably see it eventually, whether it be in the theatre, or DVD.

The Rock can not act.
The Rock can not act.
The Rock can not act.
The Rock can not act.
This movie is going to be horrible, without a doubt in my mind. I usually enjoy an entertaining action movie. This is one I refuse to go see.
P.S. The Rock can not act.

I was walking in the Westwood area the other day (by the UCLA campus) and this guy was giving out free passes to the screener of "Scorpion King". He asked me and my friend whether we were interested in seeing it. We politely turned it down, but I was thinking "you could shove those tickets up your ass...I wont waste my time with that piece of shit." On second thought, I should have went...simply to tear a new asshole into it when they get peoples' opinions.
The Mummy Returns sucked really bad and the Scorpion King was a horrible character. I did enjoy the Mummy, but I believe its sequel obviously was created to cash out. I do not think that this prequel will be any different.

I just hope that at some point the line is uttered...
CAN YOU SMELL WHAT THE SCORPION KING IS COOKING!

I´ve seen the trailer of "Scorpion King" and it looked... well... OK. I agree, that The Rock really is not an actinf talent. In the trailer he said like two lines. What does that tell us?
Well, maybe it´ll be OK? I´m just affraid that it wont...
I am seriously thinking about leaving the country if SCORPION KING becomes a huge hit.

Did anyone see the SNL hosted by the Rock?
I thought it was hilarious and that he's one of the best non-actors to host the show lately.

I thought that the first two 'Mummy' movies were alright ('The Mummy': 8/10, 'The Mummy Returns': 6/10) think that The Scorpion King looks like it will be a hit, and I might check it out sometime. And if we don't hear the line that Mr_Cheese mentioned, Can You Smell What The Scorpion King is Cooking, then chances are that we'll hear something like:
Finally, The Scorpion King has come back to the big screen

I want to see it but then again I am a huge Rock fan. I liked The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, this looks similar with actually more action. As far as the Rock not being a good actor, he is no Brando or DeNiro but he isn't horrible, granted he didn't have a whole lot of screen time in the Mummy Returns, but as the host of SNL he was great, that was one of the best Episodes of SNL in the past few years, I will be staying home to watch him host again, Papa Peepers was one of the funniest characters ever.

I will not see this movie. The Rock should stick to wrestling, he's a horrible actor.

WOW! That's EXACTLY what I think. I thoroughly enjoyed THE MUMMY, but it's sequel sucked and the Scorpion King is a horrible character.
I'm skipping this one. I MIGHT rent it on DVD. Doubtful, but maybe.

Am I the only person alive who was thoroughly entertained by The Mummy Returns (7/10)?
Anyays, I have to admit, The Scorpion King looks shitty. Unless it gets good word of mouth from my friends or something I will just wait until it comes out on DVD so I can rent it.
PS. I think The Rock CAN act, but how can he fully utilize his talents under such a crappy script?

Oh c'mon guys, give the film a chance. I mean, what's your problem with The Rock? You call him a "bad actor". Why? Just because he spitted out one short line in The Mummy Returns.
As for me, I think The Scorpion King is gonna rock! I'm sure it won't be a great film. But I do think it'll be a fun, popcorn flick. I don't think The Rock will get an oscar nod. But I think he'll do what he does best...And that's laying the smacketh down on everybody's candy asses!!! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

The Mummy was good and The Mummy Returns was ok. I didn't care about this movie at all but then I started seeing it advertised on TV and I must say this "They are doing a GREAT job with the advertising." Just from watching the previews I can tell it will be a hit. It looks exactly like the previews to The Mummy and The Mummy Returns and we both know they did well at the Box Office. I'm still not too excited about this movie, but that doesn't mean they aren't doing a GREAT job advertising it. The trailers look FUN and ACTION PACKED and the movie should have no problem reaching it's target audience. I won't see it in theaters but I might check it out on video. I see an opening weekend of 33-40 Million and total of 120 Million.

Even though I enjoyed both The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, but the trailers for this one look so bad that I have very little hope for it...

There's no way I wanna see this... The Rock makes me wanna puke sometimes. I don't think it will make as much money as the other two either, I mean it's not getting a huge summer release date, instead it's being released in a month usually dead for movies.

Well, I think everyone who thought that Scorpion King wasn't gonna do shit at the theaters can kiss The Rocks ass. I was at the opening show here in my town, the theater was full, the atmosphere intense and I had a fucking blast at the theater! I proud to say it, but sorry for those who dont like him, but The Rock is the next big action star. When he came on screen, every girl in the audience screamed and a bunch of guys pumped their fists in the air, I have never seen that happen at any movie I've gone to. The Rock has a huge fan basis and following (I'm one of them) and I am glad to see that SK opened big (highest grossing opening for a movie released in April, EVER!. I read in Rolling Stone that he is already beginning work on another movie co-starring Chris Tucker. I expect SK to hold it's ground until Spiderman comes out. Jason X will put up a good fight but I dont expect it to knock the king off of it's throne (pun intended).

I saw it and I thought it was a fun movie to watch, it wasn't good. original, or even really related to his character in The Mummy Returns. But I had a great time watching it there was non-stop action from the get-go. It was mindless fun and kept my attention And by the way The Rock is awsome.

"The Scorpion King"- B-
Fact One: Despite the Spring release, this is the first actual summer movie of the year, dished out two weeks before the looming smash of escapist genius that is "Spiderman," and a month before the most promising next segment in the "Star Wars" saga. By the $36 million opening, it was a smart strategy.
Fact Two: The film's star- The Rock- will likely never win an Oscar (I can see it now, "I'd like to thank the Academy for smellin' what The Rock is cookin'.")
Fact Three: As such, The Rock is not exactly Denzel Washington as an actor.
Fact Four: He's not exactly Freddie Prinze Jr., either, and, as Martha Stewart says, "that's a good thing."
Fact Five: 1999's "The Mummy" (D+)- w/ Brendon Fraser, action hero- was a lame "Indiana Jones" retread with none of that film's genuine charm or thrills.
Fact Six: 2001's "The Mummy Returns" (C+) was better as a ride (and Rachel Weisz was just sexy-cooler this time around as Fraser's intrepid honey), but wall-to-wall action, FX, an annoying kid, and a bare-bones story made this one feel worse in retrospect.
Fact Seven: "The Scorpion King"- being mindless escapism- steals from the best; think "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom"-meets-007-meets-"48 Hours" with a touch of "Lawrence of Arabia," and you know all you need to know about the film.
Fact Eight: I like this film- which "explains" the origins of The Rock's character from "Returns"- more than either of it's predecessors. And what's more, I can see myself enjoying it as much after a few months. How does that happen? I shouldn't have even wanted to see ONE sequel to "The Mummy," let alone a sequel and this prequel?
Well, first of all, The Rock- who I swear looks like Rob Schneider's buff brother- has a genuine presence on screen, and more than Schwarzenegger or Stallone (and definitely Van Damme and Segal), seems to be having fun. He knows his limits, doesn't try to be the next Bogart, tries his best, and he's enjoyable. Plus, he's more believable as an action hero than Fraser (sorry buddy). Next, Chuck Russell (who directed Schwarzenegger's "Eraser" and Jim Carrey's wacky "The Mask") takes the director's chair from hackolicious Stephen Sommers (who directed the first two, but only takes story and script credit this time), and actually tries to build a cohesive story (which I won't get into here because, well, there's not much point- or sense to it- anyway) without all the FX dog soldiers money can buy. You go to a film called "The Scorpion King" because of the action (and the barely-clad women- especially Kelly Hu, but that's another story), and thankfully, this film delivers in a mindless, dare-I-say old-fashioned escapist way that it's more mind-numbing predecessors could only hope to muster. We don't know how The Scorpion King went from beloved ruler to feared arachnid by movie's end, but God (and late film critic par excellence Pauline Kael) help me, I kind of want to find out. When's "The Scorpion King 2" or "Fall of the Scorpion King" or whatever the title may be coming out?

i think that this movie looks like the most awful thing to happen to movies since Mariah Carrey decided she wanted to be an actress. The Rock DOES NOT DESERVE HIS OWN MOVIE!!!!!!

Well...ive heard some pretty good things about the Rock's performance in this film. I agree that this movie looks worse than diseased crap with chunks of corn, but I just wanted to let you know that his performance has received some critical acclaim from the likes of JoBlo, Ebert, and Owen Gleiberman. Sure, not all of them enjoyed the movie entirely, but they all had pretty nice things to say about the dude..
Everyone has a start...could this have been his?

have you seen SNL? WWF? Rock can act VERY well, don't blame a dumbass script on his acting.
It was a little stupider than I had expected, but I still enjoyed it even though I don't like The Rock. Most of the guys I went with said they didn't really watch the movie cause they were too busy wiping up their drool after Kelly Hu jumped out of that bathtub. I'm pretty sure there'll be another Scorpion King movie since the storyline in this one didn't match the story in Mummy Returns at all. The best part was when he burst into the harem and did his eyebrow thingy, I was laughing my ass off. And when I realized he was going to use the arrow in his back I just couldn't stop.

Lets see i don't like wrestling, didn't like the rock in the mummy returns, didn't like the mummy returns, but this movie made everything all right, the rock was awesome, we got the next arnold on our hands, i can see it now, action movies for years to come, the action was tight, they know how to tease well with the pg-13 rating, the story was yoru basic story, and as for the part of mummy returns, that has yet to come, i know there will be a sequal in which we will get the back drop story for the mummy returns. This was some action packed fun, check it out.

I am a huge WWF fan and The Rock is cool (better as a heel though) but I don't think that the SK was that good. It wasn't all bad but there's no way it should be compared to the Mummy movies. The Rock's acting was dodgey in places and the plot was ropey.
I got to admit, Im the type of guy who doesn't care about mistakes in movies. If something happens that could never really happens, I ignore it. But when the stone floor and that guy's swords set on fire..WTF!? Stone and metal don't burn! I know there's fantasy in the movie (sorcers etc.) but non-flamable objects setting alight? The movie could of been better but it wasn't becasue of Dawyne Johnson (The Rock).

I've got to say that acting in wrestling and acting in movies is very different. If you're good at one that doesn't mean you're good at the other. The Rock is an excellent actor in wrestling, but only a so-so actor in movies.
